It’s funny because at the start of capitalism, companies didn’t pay shit and no one could feed their family on the income. So women grew gardens and raised livestock and then traded the surplus. Men paid for like, idk clothes. It’s just that we don’t value work done in the home even though it has always been, and will always be, vital to surviving.

In hunter gatherer times women provided 80% of the food for the tribe, men supplemented with hunting and most of the time they were not successful. Women invented agriculture and worked in the fields along side men, men just called themselves the "breadwinners" when women contributed to survival JUST AS MUCH. When society became more and more "civilized" men pushed women out of positions of power and influence, again women worked too and not all (most) of them were paid for their work but it was still essential to survival. Cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing was HARD WORK- HARD PHYSICAL LABOR- without modern inventions. Women were not pampered 1950s housewives throughout all of human history. And even back then, these redditors are basing their stereotypes off of romanticized, white, middle class family ADVERTISEMENTS and SITCOMS! Reality for women back then was much different then people want to believe.

I've never dated a man who made more money than me, and they were all insecure about it. This is why men have to pay/provide - because they feel emasculated when they can't provide for us. Date a man who makes more and he feels superior and like he should have power and control over you, your career is worthless and you should be willing to sacrifice your life for him.
