I completely came to that realization as soon as I started to get into a GYOW mindset. Before I was always looking to make my next career jump and make more money and afford nice things and in general so caught up in the rat race. But now I am enjoying my life, lot of people would look at it and say he's a loser but I have everything I need for the time being. If there is one thing that I still need it's owning my own place. Once that happens I will have truly gone my own way.

In all seriousness I myself practice minimalism. It's great and I love it. No junk. I know where everything is and when I need it I don't have to shuffle through shit to find it. It frees up time to do other things in life like a weight lifted of your shoulders. Seriously. I can pack up everything in my room and fit it all into my car if I needed to move. No u-haul or anything. It's mainly about prioritizing what is really needed in your life. MGTOW mainly prioritizes women and bad men habits whereas minimalism prioritizes material things. Plus it saves you so much money. 50% or more of income goes to things you really don't need or use. With this it knocks it down to under 20% so you can actually save and pay off your debt or go on that super cool vacation. If it wasn't for being unemployed right now; with mgtow and minimalism I would be close to 85% profit. Its fucking fantastic.

I also like to live in a nice apartment in nice area, and have latest tech gadgets, and eat in a nice restaurant once in awhile.

The problem is it takes a lot of time and energy if you weren't born into wealth to have those status symbols and if you do get those you find yourself striving for a hollow materialistic dream and the women you get just want you for your resources. I think it is because a lot of men simply do not have the desire to have such flashy things.

Me personally, I don't really care about clothes or a crazy big house. But I see cars as moving works of art. I am willing to dump TONS of cash on them and I do not give two squats what a woman cares about. I truly enjoy the experience of driving.

But again, I am MUCH more comfortable in a hat, sandals, board shorts and a T-shirt than anything else and often go out just like that.

I actually bought my first $100,000 car in those clothes exactly. The rumors about the salesman not treating me well were untrue, they immediately helped me and were great, didn't care what I was wearing, although i am sure the "OC Surfer Vibe" may have been part of it. Could have been a different expereince in LA or NY.

But I agree with the OP unless you have a passion. Mine is cars, the experience of driving to me is better than any sex I have ever had and I sure as hell do not buy them to impress women, let alone anyone else.

I'm 23 and live a fairly minimalist lifestyle. I get my fun from accomplishments like exercise. It's free and you can do it anywhere. I've noticed most of the time things like flashy cars and etc only bring happiness for the first couple of weeks and then the happiness starts to drop, also talk about how cars depreciate in value probably as bad as women do with age. Give me a reliable Toyota and I'm good. My happiness comes from things you can't buy and music also gives me the best euphoria. In a way I don't push myself to work harder but it doesn't bother me because I'm adaptable. If I became rich I'd probably just hang out and live by the same means I do now. Stimulation is good from time to time but after a while the materialism is just a temporary high you're chasing. My mother went insane that way.

I see those McMansions and I think that 99% of them are bought because of the wife. My brother is selling his house and he says his agent told him to repaint it-- Currently it has masculine colors. I once was in the hospital for a medical treatment which resulted into a life threating emergency situation (known potential side effect + somewhat inappropriate handling thereof by the (needless to say female) staff).

I didn't get to the part where you supposedly see the white light at the end of the tunnel and all that. From what I've found/researched online that only happens after your heart stops beating.

What I did get to, is the moment in which you realise that the most likely outcome of your current situation is death and that there is nothing you can do about it. In that moment I had to make peace with myself and the world and so I did.

The staff discovered their error, fixed it and restableized me. But it was too late in a way. My outlook on life had already been permanently changed.

Leading doctor was worried that I would press charges or anything. I asked him, in what way that would improve anything and asked him to bring the two involved staff members in and have them explain to me in detail where they went wrong, how it's done right and what changes to their personal routine they intend to make in order to make sure it won't happen again. No recordings, no written statements or anything that could be used in a court or anything. After this exchange I would sign any/all legal weavers.

And so we did that and I called it a day. More precisely I called it "the day". The day I almost died.

It doesn't change your perspective on everything. Most of my life has remained the same from an outside perspective.

What has changed is that I can't bother myself anymore to slave away in the soulless dull treatmill that we call an economy, more than I absolutely have to in order to stay afloat (I'm earing a top income tax bracket salary and pay my taxes, you're welcome). Most people have become unbearable to me, honestly. So caught up in their pesky little bullshits (like anything phone related), they be busy collecting things, more power to them. I sometimes wish, I could go back to that mindset, but most of the time, I'm perfectly happy where I am.

Bringing your relationships with people in order (as far as the circumstances permit) has gained some importance. Equally has not playing the little social games anymore.

No to mention, the way I see it, minimalism crept in when people in the "West" realized they simply can't afford all that stuff. It's even more visible now that it was before. Even worse - some people treat it as a form of irreligious, metaphysical ideology (I had a funny discussion with a feminist the other day on Yoga not being a religion).

So before people stockpiled stuff to make them happy. Now they don't and pretend to be happy. Happiness and possessions are simply orthogonal planes. They simply don't touch and have nothing to do with each other.

I went to college, got a good career. Thought I would be attractive to women. I was. They sucked every nickel I had out of me even though they made as much or more than I did. The point is to live however you think is functional and comfortable. If you want to go for luxury watches and yachts, go for it.

But from most people's experience, chasing expensive lifestyles is ultimately a hollow and impossible pursuit. If you have a lambo, somebody probably has a bugatti. If you have a private jet, someone probably has a private island. No matter how rich you are, there are people 10x richer than you, that make you look like a bum. There are even people 10x richer than Bill Gates. And at the end of the day, you're still just some dude who plays games, eats burgers, and scratches his nuts. All the expensive things in the world don't make you any more human or any less mortal.

On the other hand, minimalism is more attainable and more satisfying. The richer one's mind, the less important are material things. Less clutter brings more peace. And you can use the extra money to retire early to have even more peace.

I can't speak for everyone, but for myself I reject things that reduce freedom. So political parties aren't for me (I am libertarian when people ask, because I like isolationism and reducing government), I don't celebrate holidays (because, why?), I don't get involved in relationships (you know why), I believe in God, but I don't believe in organized religion (personal experience with both), and the accumulation of stuff isn't a draw for me. Stuff means walls to protect it and attention from people who want it (girls and thieves). My best times were living in an RV or on a motorcycle. With everything I owned carried it with me. I like passive income, or ways I can earn money from anywhere. Although I'm rooted right now (in a small town, with a job I enjoy, I work as much as I need to to pay for food, bills and things I want... like wool socks), I could easily uproot and go elsewhere.

Own enough stuff and evetually that stuff owns you.

I disagree with you on watches, sure there are people who by a Rolex for the appeal, but Swiss watches really are a piece of technological artwork. The Craftsmanship that goes into each piece is really unparalleled by any modern product. I bought a Tudor 42000CN used on auction $2800 because I loved the idea of having a watch that was made of ceramic and sapphire, I haven't been able to find any listings for the same model ever under 3200. All the craftsmanship and beauty of a Rolex without the flashy branding that people usually buy Swiss watches for. Ironically, the only people to ever complement me on it are men, because they can see the design & quality while women only look for the logo as a status symbol.

Also I saved up $5 a week for 2 years to buy it, so it wasn't even dropping cash. Expensive swiss watches are more about the reason why you are buying them than the products themselves.

One of the things I hope to achieve this year is to end the year with fewer things than I started it. I have a lot of unnecessary things, most of which were bought in more consumerist orientated days, and which generally just take up time to clean and maintain. They don't add value to life...seems strange to want even more of that.

As a MGTOW, we learn to let go of certain ideas that were planted in our heads that we should all metaphorically jump through the hoops of a woman in order to gain her favor and live for our own self. Men go their own way because the demands have become extremely unreasonable to meet.

That's not to say we should stagnate ourselves but we self improve for our own benefits. Exercise, self reflection and even pursuing knowledge are all goals that are achievable and and can be content with.

As for me, I have thoughts of wanting to go minimalist but I'm a little worried for the lack if plumbing when I need to do my business.

i have noticed that a lot of what i believe in is because i like money and freedom. so im a mgtow minimalist libertarian.
