The harder society squeezes, the more men leave society, violently or otherwise.

Can confirm, havnt been "part" of society since I was done with school.
I feel empty and just let days go by now, no point in trying as Im not beautiful. And I have tried mind you. Now I just loathe normal people.
Sorry for the rant, it just happened.

I'm 50 years old and so have been around for a while. Take it from a man with some experience in life -- you're much more blessed than you think you are.
You're not missing out - you're dodging a bullet, though I know it doesn't feel that way. Live your life for your own self-interest. You don't need women's approval, just your own.
[–]Millenia0 48 points49 points50 points 10 years ago (44 children) | Copy Link
Ive already given up any thoughts of a companion in my life, a long time ago.

So did I and I'm married LOL. See how that works?
Concern yourself with self improvement, hobbies, travel - whatever you want. A woman in your life will keep you from your dreams more often than helping you reach them.

This is so true. I'm still trying to recover from leaving an ex 5 years ago.
[–]Empdizz 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Same thing happened with me. I stopped looking for the right women and gave up all together, than the right one just fell into me lap. Just celebrated my 9th wedding anniversary the other day. This is one of the greatest pieces of advice, that no one wants to take.
[–]DisabledNeckbeard 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Preach. Also if you really want a woman just don't try and you'll eventually find one that likes you for you. You just have to be aware of her advances if you're actually interested in finding a partner.

Not a joke when I say this...dogs make great companions. Escorts will satisfy your sexual needs if they're legal in your area and if you can afford one every so often. A little human contact can make a big difference.
[–]Millenia0 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link
I doubt I could go from being an untouched introvert to escorts.

I did too for a long time mate. I'd stopped looking for love. Started thinking about just loving myself. Suddenly I'm 8 years deep in a relationship, married again, looking for improvements in other aspects of my life.
You worry about you. Love yourself because you can bring you happiness. Somehow, that works for everyone else, apparently.

[–]dankcaked 14 points15 points16 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I see a lot of men using a woman approval to base their value of themselves. When that doesnt work they step to advice of a few wise people who say to improve themselves or as you word it, "live your life for your own self-interest."
People all have different ideas on what improving themselves or living for their own self interest means. Some people will go work out and focus on their career, but there are many ways.
Well the majority of the other ways guys are told to focus on are just as toxic, because basing your value on anything other than yourself makes you dependent. The same guys that take it out on themselves for their relationships not working out will take it out on themselves when the "other" doesnt work out.
So the good ole' advice of, "You dont need women, do this instead." Doesn't always work out.
[–]Daemonicus 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It does if you don't put the focus into succeeding in it. The "do this instead" mantra is just to go out there and do shit. Whether it's rock climbing, hiking, wood working, volunteering, whatever. Just put effort into hobbies that you would enjoy, and do what you want to make yourself happy.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]AtomicBLB 25 points26 points27 points 10 years ago (39 children) | Copy Link
That's a very mild rant. I know that feel though... I wish I could say it gets better but that's misleading to far too many. I will encourage you though to try to do things you enjoy around others who share that interest as well. Conventions, trivia night, etc. Just something somewhere with like minded people. I go and do my own thing without any intentions of making new connections now. Before I think I put too much emphasis on the social part of these things, now I just enjoy the activities much more instead. I'm not really social, so I don't try to be.
I'm not going to BS you and say you'll find love or find yourself along the way, but that you should simply because it would be something that you want to do. For me it got to a point where I didn't care at all and just wanted to be in my solitude and that's unhealthy. Then I got mad about it one day, no real jumping off point or last straw moment, I just got mad that I was letting society dictate to me how I was going to live my life. I decided people I didn't know and people who didn't want to know me were no longer going to influence the decisions I was making for myself.
You don't exist to impress anyone, from anywhere, with any status. We're all just human beings at the end of the day. If you aren't hurting anyone then put yourself out there and you'll meet interesting people at the least. I couldn't tell you half their names but I've had many meaningful one time conversations with people of all ages and backgrounds.
[–]Millenia0 21 points22 points23 points 10 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link
It just doesnt seem possible anymore. I havnt had a conversation with anyone apart from my mother in almost 5 years now. And lately Ive felt the urge to cry every time I go outside to buy groceries so Ive reduced going outside to about 1-2 times a week.
There doesnt seem to be any way out of this, so I will just continue doing what I know.
[–]AtomicBLB 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
It took me a long time into my 20's to get the most basic of social skills down. I used to cry a lot more as well. I cry every few weeks now and I consider myself relatively to be in a good place. Sometimes a good cry can be very therapeutic as well. In my darker days though I'd cry 3-4 times a day and for 20+ minutes when I did. I did that for over 6 months. At work, at school, at home. Didn't matter, I couldn't stop it from happening. I spent my entire teen years holding it in and never showing any sign of what I perceived to be as a weakness. Then the dam broke. I wanted to die. Not the 'omg I'm so embarrassed I want to die' and more so the 'if this is all life is going to ever be then I don't want to exist' kind.
I played MMOs more when I was younger and that helped me socialize a lot better over time. When I speak is very different from how I type. It's hard to find the right words. It's like if you spoke to me in real life I would likely confuse you several times and not intentionally, but people can have a small amount of patience. It sounds right in my head but it's harder to get it across to others. In text I can see it as I'm doing it and make small corrections at times to reduce those occurrences.
Then had a few jobs that forced me to interact with many people on a daily basis. Life is a marathon and less so a race. People have different times in which they adjust to or learn new things. Maybe it isn't human interaction you need and just something more introverted in nature, given your circumstances. Going to the park, taking up star gazing, or even something as small as just having a pet to have as a companion. A cat is great for an introvert. Dogs are great for most people too and they both are great in feeding off your emotions. So much so that if you care for them you will actively seek out trying to cheer them up and in the process, yourself. I certainly miss having a cat and just recently started thinking of relocating to a place that will allow me to have one again.
If you can't have an animal such as that due to restrictions then I honestly suggest getting a couple of rats, same sex. Rats are very social and no matter how much attention you'd give them, they need at least one other rat for when you aren't around, just as an FYI. They are allowed in most places because of their size and they are easy to care for. Very intelligent and they love companionship with their owners. A lot more than say a hamster or goldfish.
I still spend a great deal of my personal time alone, but not because I have to but because I want to now. I love games like Civilization with tons of micromanaging or a Fallout/Skyrim with lots to explore and do.
And if nothing sounds like something you can or want to do. Just message me, I may not get back to you right away but I will get back to you everytime. Barring accidental death ofcourse.
[–]Millenia0 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I had a cat, got it from a shelter 5 or so years ago. It recently got ran over by a car in the rain at night. Sadly the person delivering it to the vet didnt give a name or I'd be in jail now.
It didnt make my situtation any better, that cat was my entire world.
Ive been thinking of getting another one from the shelter but Im not sure if it would help anymore.
I do play alot of games too, to escape my life my as of late its not working as good.
[–]Im_Justin_Cider 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Dude, I'm sorry it is this way, but people don't intrinsically care about you, they only care about what value you bring into their lives.
For example, If you play an online game, you are only appreciated in that community for your ability to contribute to it.
If you go into any shop, the conversation with the shop assistant ends THE MOMENT the money has been exchanged.
If you fail to bring value to the company you work for, your boss will quickly fire you.
I could list countless more examples.
The point is, you must focus on what you can offer other people, and work to increase that as much as possible.

[–]anonlymouse 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link
There doesnt seem to be any way out of this,
Go to the gym. Lift weights. Lots of great things happen as you start putting on muscle, that don't have anything to do with how people perceive you. Don't need to talk to people at the gym (except to sign up for your membership), and don't need to spend ages there either.
[–]Millenia0 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
I know and I want to but I really dont like being exhausted in front of people. Hell, I even stop breathing when I pass people on the street.

[–]Minkatte 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You just described my entire life recently. My aunt called me out of the blue yesterday so I got to talk to her, but the last person I had a conversation with was my mom like 3 weeks ago.
If you ever need to talk, my dm is always open. I suck at video games, but if you ever need a buddy I can try.
It is hard to work yourself out of a deep depression and feelings of isolation. I loathe to say it, but only you can pull yourself out. If you need to see a doctor or talk to a therapist, by all means do so they will help you. Otherwise the best way to work yourself out of a funk is to go out of the house, leave your comfort zone. Go for walks around your neighborhood, pick up a hobby that puts you in contact with people, volunteer at a homeless shelter or an animal rescue shelter, anything to take your mind off your current state and get you active. Idle hands and rumination will not solve anything.
Take things one step at a time.

I too have left society for the most part, outside the necessary paycheck excursions. But having been through a very very very very very bad marriage (and a liberating divorce), I now appreciate the soltitude.
Do I want to watch a film? I watch it. Do I want to read a book? I read it. Do I want to play a game? I play it. Do I want to go somewhere? I go there. Do I want to buy something? I buy it. Do I have the itch to write something within my areas of interest? I write it. Now. When I want to. Not when it's convenient for her.
I don't have to constantly watch my back, watch my words, watch my attitude. I don't have to carefully consider what interests I can share, and what I need to keep hidden for fear of upsetting her. I have no anxiety walking down the street, wondering if she's noticing where my eyes are going, or if she's imagining they went somewhere they didn't.
Married men are not free. You are free... so start acting like it! Throw yourself into whatever it is you love! If you love pussy, so be it; throw yourself into "The Game" or something (though I suspect you're more likely to go into a more solitary hobby). But don't imagine you can't be happy without a woman... or that you will be happy with one. The only happiness you'll have is the happiness you bring into the relationship.

I did this for a while in my twenties. I decided to make sweeping changes at that point. So, I left a good job, moved to a bigger city, started going to community college, and started going out to bars. I eventually started going to a church, found a girl, got married, stopped going to church, transferred to a university, got divorced, moved into a rented room. Started going out swing dancing, found a nicer girl. Finished, my degree, got married, bought a house, made a fetus...
Sometimes it takes a few months of changes to spin your life off in a different direction. Things may not be good, but it does get better, usually as a result of trying. The choice is yours to try, or to not. Good luck!
:)

I don't know your situation, so I don't know if I can be any help to you, but as a sufferer of a certain social development disorder, I feel almost obliged to give my 2 cents.
It's a process, made much easier or harder depending on your starting position. The easiest step though is to continue being who you are, but in a more social format. Things like conventions are amazing places to break out of that eggshell, being surrounded by people who are much more likely to understand you or are at least willing to listen. Often times there are local meetups for random events you may be interested in, theres even a website www.meetup.com.
The hardest and longest step is learning how to be assertive and confident without being obnoxious. There really is no easy way about this, you either go the long route or the short route. The long route has you essentially staying quiet until observe a situation where you personally cam be completely confident and assertive, possibly because you played out this situation, or something similar, out in your head before hand. Obviously this takes time as situations like that don't exactly present themselves often. At the same time you save a lot of face and possible embarrassment. The short route has you going through trial and error. Be assertive everywhere you can, and when you inevevitebly fail and end up being too obnoxious, then recognize your mistakes and correct yourself for the future. You will beat yourself up over it, regret doing things, and suffer embarrassment, but you will progress rapidly, and you will become more used to it until it eventually become second nature to you to be assertive yet not obnoxious.
You don't have to look attractive, you don't have to lose weight (I recommend everyone does though, being overweight causes major health problems), you don't have to build muscle, you don't have to do anything other than simply be confident and assertive in life. You would be amazed how far that single skill can take you in life.

Many 'normal' people feel empty and alone on the inside. They're just good at taking it. Whatever feelings you're having are probably shared by lots of people around you. We all have our issues and hang ups. You aren't alone.

if even a place like 4chan is getting concerned about the mental state of men in today's society then it says a fucking lot about people who try to place the blame on other things.
4chan started out as more or less a refuge for young men who have been rejected by society, offering a safe place through anonymity to connect and talk about shared hobbies such as video games and anime. So this is not that strange at all, on the contrary, this is exactly the place where the core of the issue becomes visible. However the same anonymity that gave shelter to vulnerable men has caught the attention of a lot of other groups who started associating themselves with 4chan. This gave people have a lot of wrong conceptions about what 4chan is about, thinking that it is all one big entity. Instead it is a collective of a lot of different communities and groups, each with widely different users and habits.

The 'relationship' stuff only became really a strong part of chan culture (/r9k/ and foreveralone and aizardchan) in like 2010 or so. Before then it was 'wacky randomess on /b/' and whatnot.
I also somewhat hesitate to say *chan culture is a safe space for males, as opposed to 'safe space for those hounded by societial expctations' after say 2005 (i.e. all the loli threads n stuff)
[–]TheSourTruth 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It is strange. 4chan is big on the "alpha male" idea that espouses a kind of natural selection where the "beta males" don't get to reproduce. This is fundamentally contrary to the posts in the OP's pic. In fact, only a few places don't have this mentality, the most prominent being /r9k/
PUA shit started to seep on *chans heavily in 2009-10, when /r9k/ started to go from "new /b/" to "feels thread" to "loneliness thread" to "MGTOW/incel bitching". Before then, it wasnt a jacking off about being alpha/cucks/etc

hey don't have the slightest clue how to find a companion in the real world.
The same thing is happening to young women, but due to the differences in gender dynamics, it is mostly only affecting men. Women with "no social skills" get an out due to the differences in how both sexes are treated. This is a multi-faceted dynamic in addition to women expecting a man who is better than them as our society goes out of the way to make the two equal. That's a math issue.

I suggest you guys read Iron John in which he describes how this sort of society came to be. Throughout history and other parts of the world men have always had social groups, groups of all ages, where they came together and bonded and learned from each other. This is from child to young adult.
Such a thing is non-existant in western society, in America in particular. It simply disappeared when industrialization and distractions came along. Added to this is the idea that men are the sole breadwinners and women should raise the kids.
This really did more damage than anything. From history generally children worked with thier father but the modern western civlization also destroyed that along with the idea of modern schooling (every child needs to go to school).
It created an absolute in balance in the family that basically made the father not even present for several generations. Because of that kids that grew up to be fathers and wanted to give their children more attention...don't know what to do. What it is to be a father and what they should do. Instead they let the mother handle or raise them like a mother would in a feminine way.
Its a constantly frustrating experience for boys to be constantly raised by females as most females expect boys to behave like females: they should be still, keep calm and don't be direct.
Some boys come out of this perfectly fine but a lot others don't and it messes them up for years until they get control of their lives. And some never do. There is a chance you lose your friends in high-school and then college, go into a job, maybe go into another job and come out of that with only a couple of acquaintances or none.
It is extremely debilitating in our society to expect boys only social gateway for a long time is the grade school. When parents ask "why is my child going online?" its because that's their social fallback. And when groups are comprised only of children socially what do you think happens? Lord of flies shit. Bullying and so on. Thats were the outcasts are born, the socially unaccepted ones because the social group in grade school is "prison rules" .
Teachers can't really expect to socialize with kids because they have to grade them. Its why gym teachers are usually a favorite because there is the direction and friendliness they want.
This turned out to be a rant about schools. But most of the shooters and suicides are from young men. Expressly in grade school/ college or directly out of it. Its not a lack of attention either, nor a lack of empathy but rather a lack of connection with men and boys in these straits.

"Moving out of high-poverty areas had very different effects on boys and girls, and both effects are large. For boys, the increase in PTSD is comparable to what you see from combat exposure among military veterans, while the reduction in depression among girls is equally massive."

Boys have to compete a lot more than girls, while basically any girl can fit into a society as long as they are pretty enough and have a good mental attitude.
Moving into an area where they have to compete, they are in the bottom rung now and have to fight their way up to prove their worth.

Mostly it gives the issue a narrative, something that people can frame in their life and establish some way of empathizing.
The only real 'help' this provides is that you can better forecast when society will shit on you, so that you can at least bring a rain coat.

I expected something hugely different, was positively surprised. They summed it up nicely, nothing much left to say.
And really, the most prevalent response to this issue is the most superficial one "gun control" and further vilification. Yeah, let's not try tackling this issue by being nicer to these individuals, just take the guns away and continue kicking them. They won't be able to wreak enough havoc this way when they break. Only when there's men involved there doesn't need to be a politically correct response to/handling of the issue.

Well, I wouldn't really leave it to being nice to them all the time because the world doesn't work that way.
I'd be better with just giving them support and the tools they need to eventually support themselves. Build some confidence. Groups, circles, and the like.
And better Mental Health Services. By god, seems like nobody out there is willing to address that this is key when dealing with men who are stressed, burdened, and in danger of burning out completely.

This is why I try to find compassion for the "bad guys" as I posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/3mx33u/no_not_bias_at_all/cvjd8ul
It's a complex problem with no easy solution. Simply dismissing them as "sick murderers" might be socially appealing, but it does very little to address the larger problem.
Unfortunately I believe taking such a nuanced stance on it would be even worse for our image. Murderer sympathizers on top of misogynists.

I'm well aware that raising the minimum wage will only shift the cost difference to the consumer. The people here in the US with a basic level of critical thinking already understand that. The underlying issues are not simple fixes, despite what most people would say, and good luck getting any kind of politician to actually propose any kind of meaningful solution because it would be career suicide.
In terms of healthcare, I am an outlier. I have a lifelong illness that falls into the classification of 'orphan disease'. There is no cure, and medicine to treat the symptoms is expensive, costing about half a week's pay for a one month supply.

Honestly, I think the biggest problem is that men have been neutered by modern society. The modern man must bear the full burden of his family's financial well-being, he must always maintain the status as the stoic hard-faced leader of his family, and must always carry the responsibility of making difficult choices such as when to move, when to quit a job and seek a new one, and when to initiate the taking on of hundreds of thousands in debt in order to buy a home. At the same time, he has to bend over backwards to not say something "offensive" (lest he lose his job and reputation), he has to tolerate becoming the scapegoat for all the problems of today (after all, speaking against such asinine sexism just makes you look crazy), and he must always pay for the date, buy flowers for the wife, and be all warm and fuzzy (but, you know, not too warm and fuzzy or sweet, because that makes you lose your SO's respect or gets you called "whipped").
Why do we accept this? We roll over and take it. Hell, it is predominantly male politicians that are the ones codifying these ass backwards ideas into law! Our forefathers and other assorted ancestors are rolling over in their graves at our complacency. If men had just a sliver of dignity left, we'd stand up and say, "enough is enough, go F yourself."
But we really don't have a sliver of dignity left. Look around. Men getting beaten by their wives? Absolutely hilarious! Men losing their kids in divorce? Eh, who cares, kids don't need dads. A guy got fired for complementing a co-worker's dress? I mean, what a dumbass; everyone knows you can't do that! A man cries because he feels emotion after success/failure/retirement? What a wimp, that's definitely making the SportsCenter newsreel for a few weeks. Every single commercial depicting good ole dad as a bumbling, fumbling, stumbling moron? What a knee-slapper!
Silence. Seriously, it's no wonder so many young men are so hopelessly lost. They look up to the men that should be role models, and they see nothing but cowardice, self-hatred, and depression. Where are the Clint Eastwoods, the John Waynes, the Eisenhowers? Where are they? Because all I see in today's "modern manhood" is nothing but weak-kneed boys that never learned how to grow up. The reason crime, anger, depression, suicide, and unfortunately, violence, are so problematic is that boys see the "men" they'll one day grow up to be, and feel nothing but resentment and disgust.
Today's men need to realize that yes, we actually ARE the problem, but only because we're doing nothing to stop this. We are too afraid to rock the boat, too afraid to put out necks out, too afraid of getting labeled "extreme," "crazy," or "sexist/racist/bigoted/ ____phobic" to mutter a single word in protest.
The thing is, I'm just as guilty as everyone else. I'm a young guy still trying to get established in a career. Honestly, we need some men who are older and financially independent to wake up and smell the roses, and take leadership.
[–]smeata 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And the world would treat them like Donald Trump.
I do actually agree with what you are saying, I just feel so hopeless that I have to focus on every floor in my ideas and your ideas sound so much like my own that it just sort of happened.
That's because they get caught up in the hopelessness and loneliness, and turn to violence as a solution. Not excusing such devastatingly heinous acts, but it's important to look at the causes. I think having some older guys who've been around awhile serving as leaders and mentors could do a ton to help the problem.

4chan is great. Idk why the MRA bothers with leddit. I saw a discussion on pol a few days back on the Oregon shooter. Basically they summed up the cause to something that sounded very probable.
In the current social condition you've got all the prior fringe groups and outcasts at the helm of social acceptance. Gay is now cool, trams is now brave and heroic, and if you're black you dindunuffin. People defend these former outcasts like they used to defend their children for drunk driving.
But then you have another group of outcasts that are the target and brunt of every new world punchline. This new target is men. And it's not the privileged "shitlords" that the SJWs hail as the second coming of Hitler. Instead it mostly seems to be people with autism and a wide variety of men with social and/or mental handicaps.
The world laughs as the awkward beta male gets slapped around by strong independent womyn in the media. It's now a social issue to present these men as heroes to women. But nothing changes in the alpha male hero narrative that women so fondly attach themselves to.
The sexual revolution only hurt one group: men. Now 20% of males score 80% of women. Women are left to natural instinct and all you get is selective choosing that leaves the disenfranchised men in the dust. Without an outlet for their natural instinct it leaves these men frustrated and confused. The lovely ladies sit around laughing at these "nice guys" expecting some scraps of sex to be left over from their escapades with Mr. Chad. No nice guy, don't get your rapist little brain set on this girl.
So it's very much to be expected that in a shit society like this these outcasts would turn to an outlet of similar minds to seek acceptance. This is the purpose of r9k. But what respite will a group provide that only confirms the pathetic state of your existence? R9k urged the Oregon shooter to blast up a school. They made sure to ask him to target Stacey and Chad. And there you have it, it's not a problem of gun violence. Someone who has no reason to live and sees the people surrounding them as a threat to their own existence is a caged animal. Taking the guns away will do nothing.
The violence will stop if and only if the world makes a place for these people. Like it made a place for the gays, trans, women and minorities of the world. And when it stops marginalizing their problems as "male tears".
[–]Coldbeam 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Now 20% of males score 80% of women
I keep seeing that repeated, but I've never seen a source on it.

[–]Arlieth 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
80/20 is just the Pareto principle, this is not a new development at all and the sexual revolution didn't really do anything in this regard.
[–]Coldbeam 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I don't think there's really any reason to believe that it applies in this scenario though.

[–]Dnile1000BC 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Could also be derived from an OKCupid survey where women on rate 80% of men on OKCupid as below average.
[–]INTERNET_TOUGHGUY666 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It's definitely an anecdotal claim and certainly doesn't hold up under statistical scrutiny. Instead it's an expression of the beta male condition of our world, a response to the bullshit claims of rape culture and misogyny that target a group of harmless, often sexless males that never sought to oppress anyone
[–]Coldbeam 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I don't think countering bullshit with other bullshit is particularly helpful, though.
[–]INTERNET_TOUGHGUY666 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's a difference between statistical analogy and stats used to actually prove a point. No one's arguing 80/20... It's just a nice expression to articulate the shitty sexual position of many males
[–]icumonsluts 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Its the makeup, pushup bras and all that body shaping shit that tricks the male brain into thinking a woman is attractive.
[–]INTERNET_TOUGHGUY666 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think it has more to do with evolutionary instinct. The same thing pushing school shooters into acts of fear aggression. Females attempt to fudge their genetics with false advertisement. Now every woman thinks she's a hot commodity and we can't tell the difference. Our society functions off the unwarranted self importance of females but we fail to see that and are providing them with unequal advantage

r9k is a pretty unique place on the internet, it's a meeting place for the socially alienated, ackward, lonely, rejected, unemployed, uneducated, girlfriendless, friendless outcasts that society ignores and sweeps under the carpet. Why should they care about a society that has done nothing for them? I am honestly waiting for the day my Govt announces its action plan to help this underclass of men but every day it's more of the same:help the females, help the immigrants, help the tranny, help the gay. There's a army of young men who've given up on life completely, given up on having a family, owning a home, getting a job, getting a education. They're invisible to the world.

loneliness
alienation from society
society and the media constantly demonizing you, proclaiming that you are responsible for everything [bad] in your life
society expressing sympathy and support for just about everybody else
Concerning "the Middle East" in this facile, monolithic fashion, Anon is forgetting:
political power vacuum(s)
regional instability
lack of infrastructure
lack of education
lack of information technology
political disenfranchisement
meddling foreign policies by Russia, America, and others
And perhaps the most important factor of all:
It's dreadfully disingenuous to say that young men in the Middle East are merely social outcasts with no safety nets.
Importantly, "the impossible battle" Anon describes is waged by religious radicals who defer in all ways to 7th century epileptic ramblings of an illiterate pedophile imperialist warlord slaver (lovingly called "the Prophet") transcribed decades after the fact from his followers' hearsay, claiming to be the unimpeachable word of God.
The comparison between the followers of this primitive dogma, and various North American Herostratic criminals, is tenuous at best, but simplistic, cynical, and dishonest at worst.
I think the comparison to the Middle East is more allegorical than literal. Something to the effect of pointing out that shit is really fucked up.

It would be a neat thing if all of the main contributors to this annoying red pill/SJW/whoever gender war were to disappear from our planet.
It would be nice to browse the internet without seeing this stupid shit spewed on all of the major sites.
That won't happen, though. No, your sides will keep fanning the flames until eventually people die. Yes, someone, or some group, from one of your factions, male, female, other, will get worked up enough to kill.
Soooo, what happens after that? What's the end goal here? It kind of seems like it's bored people, who need something to do, something to bitch about, or keep their minds busy. I understand that, but I wish that your people, on both sides of your gender war, would find something better to do than cause this drama.
It's annoying the rest of us.

Yes, someone, or some group, from one of your factions, male, female, other, will get worked up enough to kill.
Is it enough to simply say that this is inevitable? Of course not. The chances that fiery idealogues will resort to violence says nothing about the actual merits of any of the arguments, and when the arguments concern policies and attitudes that affect people's day-to-day life, the "gender war," as you put it, is just as inevitable as the violence.
These discussions and "fanning the flames" are justified, and necessary. No one is excusing violence, but the chances of violence don't mean we stop the dialogue. That's childish and cowardly.

How. How do you not see how immature it is to block shit you don't agree with.

I realize this is /r/mensrights but fuck the lot of you for being just as bad as the people you're all mad at.
Waaah, our rights. You bunch of fucking pussies. You sit in this sub and complain about how women are so mean and oppressive and you sound just as whiny and stupid as those other shitheads who call themselves feminists or social just warrior types.
Suicide isn't a gender biased issue. It affects everyone and the best way to help people is to talk to them, understand their problems, be empathetic and leave your goddamned politics at the fucking door.
Go look on /r/suicidewatch and see how many people on there are depressed, lost, hurt, and need help, but nope, you dinks would rather sit on here and act like a bunch of crying dildos.

You really don't understand that you're the problem, do you?

How am I the problem?
Please, tell me.

Your lack of understanding that men, as well as women, do feel alienated from society.
Except in my last post I stated that same point explicitly so fuck yourself for telling me that I lack understanding.
Suicide is a human issue, it's not a male or female centric issue.
Society is changing, and has changed a lot in the past five years, where gender bias and imbalance is really starting to affect many people.
Over the last 5 years?
Try the last 40 years. Pretty much since first wave feminism, men have been forced into combat against an ideological belief system that blames us for all kinds of shit from child abuse, to rape to being 'misogynists' and all that other crap.
It's only been in the last few years that the men's rights 'movement' has sprung up, and guess what? It's not useful because it's just contrary to the bullshit feminists spew out.
Instead of just being a human who can be sympathetic to people for whatever reasons, the men's rights movement has been turned into a team of whiny bitches who do nothing but complain about feminism.
[–]Mikesapien 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Then give us a "human" explanation that accounts for the fact that men don't receive nearly the same social safeties that women do? Explain why four times more men than women commit suicide every year. It's not a male-centric, issue –no one said it was– it's a men's issue generally, which anyone with two brain cells who hasn't climbed into and disappeared up their own ass can see.
the men's rights movement has been turned into a team of whiny bitches who do nothing but complain about feminism
You've clearly lost the thread of the plot at this point. MRAs often make some of the mistakes that feminists make (expecting society to bend over backwards for them in the same way), but that does not underscore every men's rights issue. You act as though there is no such thing as a legitimate grievance: with society, with feminism, with whatever. You're a moron.
[–]Mikesapien 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Men are statistically less inclined to seek mental help, and when assholes like you call them a "bunch of fucking pussies" for having legitimate societal grievances, this only reinforces men's behavior not to seek therapy, and not to see a psychologist, and not to reach out to their friends and family. No one takes their problems seriously, which drives four times more men than women to kill themselves in the United States every year.
That's why you're part of the problem.

No, I'm not calling suicidal people pussies, I'm calling you stunted bitches pussies because of doing anything to support people, you sit in this sub and whine about how fucking mistreated you are when you could actually be doing something productive to help make people with suicidal issues feel better.
That's why I posted /r/suicidewatch earlier. You dinks could be talking to people who are in need, but you don't do shit but complain that I'm offending you. Fuck you. You're the goddamned problem. Useless cunts.
No, I took "you bunch of fucking pussies" to mean people talking about this problem generally, which would include some suicidal people as well. We're not just here to theoretically spitball, you see. It should come as no surprise that people to whom this is important might need the kind of help that society is perfectly happy to throw money at if you're a woman or a minority.
The point still stands: if people discussing the gendered nature of suicide are called "a bunch of fucking pussies," how do you suppose that makes suicidal men feel?
[–]Bortasz[S] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Suicide is not gender biased? Pleas explain to me why 80% of suicide are men. Yet nobody give a shit?
[+]Abe_Vigoda -12 points-11 points-10 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yet nobody give a shit?
Who says that? I give a shit, you give a shit.
I have a few friends that have died from suicide so yes, it is a very important issue to me.
But, while you're focusing on the 80% of men, I'm focusing on the 100% of people who die pointlessly because they can't cope with shit going on in their lives.
You guys are suckers. Here's why:
Feminism as an ideological belief system formed in colleges and media in the 60s as a way to undermine the overall civil rights movement. This included everyone, men, women, black white, gay straight, etc and was targeted toward the people who run the system, which is technically mostly rich people in the upper class and shit.
Feminism divided the masses and made it so the rich could stay in power and make money off the working class public. And they still managed to do the same shit by introducing more social wedges and turning the public from being a united mass, into warring little tribes that fight about bullshit rather than working together for more common, beneficial goals.
Yes, more men commit suicide and it's very much overlooked, but that's not the fault of 'feminists', it's a result of 40+ years of media and academic swindling to keep the public hating each other over crap like religion, race, gender, sexuality, etc...

I'm not anti-media. Media can be useful. It can also be very dangerous.
Media concentration for example isn't a good thing, especially if a handful of companies owns the majority of it, but hey, just call me a conspiracy theorist.
