Why should we not have a discussion about the similarities between fundamentalist christians and radical feminists?

Is it because someone may be laughing at us? Or is it specifically because the original poster was not being sincere?

What do these things matter. The topic is either legitimate for discussion or it isn't. Have we not been trolled if the OP was genuine?

But then it seems as if it was the intention of the OP, not the intrinsic value of the topic raised, which determines whether we have been trolled, and, by implication, whether we should have replied.

Since we cannot ever read the minds of original posters, and since we therefore cannot know whether the post is a troll or not, it seems to me we should instead evaluate posts on their intrinsic merits, not on some conjecture of the intention of the original poster.

As for the post showing up on SRS, it may well do even if the OP's intention was genuine, and SRS may laugh at any thread they please, as is their right. What is the harm in that? We could take pleasure in keeping our audience entertained.

To rise above SRS trolls, wouldn't it be better to treat posts and comments on their merits and abandon concern with the thoughts of others, except in so far as they are willing to share them with us for our benefit.

No other attitude seems to make any sense to me. Let them laugh. And if they raise good questions, let us debate them.

As for our being divided, yes, I think your analysis of the division of opinion in the thread is correct, but again we must accept it. On some matters we just will be divided. This isn't supporting football teams.

Little late to the party but the Rad Fem/Rad Christian picture had an obvious mistake in it for starters.

It says "both believe HUMANS are born with faults they must overcome (original sin/privilage)" ... some far radical christians might believe all people are born sinners, but radical feminists only believe men have privilage.

I feel inclined to disagree on some points 7wap. New account aside, and attempt to divide aside (good observations in first two) I question 3 where you say this is normal, rather than radical, Christians.

Describing Satan as "an evil force out to destroy" is not something I necessarily agree with being a summary of Christian views of Satan. Rather than destroy, I think many view him as a subtle temptor towards sin, the crass that detracts away from better more enlightened behaviours.

The end result of that would not be 'destroy' (to suffer eternity in hell, a soul must be immortal) but rather to 'corrupt' or to 'confuse' or something along those lines.

I think it actually would be a more radical sect of Christianity who simply looks at Satan as some guy who goes around blasting volcanos into cities (although that would be awesome).

I also think it's wrong to assume this is a troll post. Trolling must involve misleading people about one's viewpoints to get a reaction. DJR did not actually espouse any viewpoints. He said "anonymous" in the description of the image, meaning they were not his views, and that he was merely conveying some other person's views.

About the only way this could have been dishonest is if he had gone to the trouble of making that image himself and pretended to "find" it to share it with us.

I wouldn't expect to see it in SRS any time soon: the name Doctor_James_Russle is indicative of an SRS member - they seem to refer to the idea of antagonizing men or MRAs specifically as "rustling jimmies." Actually, the group seems rather obsessed with that concept. I spent time in the sub tagging names when they were regularly trolling here using their main accounts (and now have a fairly extensive list) and variations on that phrase were repeated a lot.
