I stumbled upon the video (this one) in which a guy runs a simulation of dating apps. Video is blue pilled, but interesting nonetheless. For those who don't want to open the link for whatever reason here's a quick summary and takeaways from it.
- Scenario 1 (where everything is equal):
500 women and men, each user sees only 100 profiles and likes 1 in 4 profiles.
It's not realistic, but it's just a first simulation. The result is the following:
The average amount of likes and matches is similar in both men and women.
The average amount of likes: 25
The average amount of matches: 6.25
- Scenario 2 (user ratio): It's no secret that there are more men than women on dating apps, so let's throw that into the mix:
Assuming we have 2 men per 1 woman (something in between of a Tinder ratio and a Bumble ratio) with the same percentage of likes (25%) we get a staggeringly different picture
For 667 men and 333 women, we get the following results:
The average amount of likes for men: 12.5
The average amount of likes for women: 50.1(!!!)
The average amount of matches for men: 3.12
The average amount of matches for women: 6.26
We can already see big changes between genders with women receiving substantially more matches than men, based on the user ratio alone. In this situation, it makes sense for men to start giving more likes to increase their chances of a match, so let's throw that into the mix.
- Scenario 3 (like ratio): It's well understood that men are giving out more likes (shame) so let's throw the numbers from the link into our pot:
From the link, we get 14% of likes given from women and 46% of likes given by men, so let's see the results of adding it into the mix:
The average amount of likes for men: 7.0
And now behold...
The average amount of likes for women: 92.1 (OMG!!!!)
The average amount of matches for men: 3.2
The average amount of matches for women: 6.4
Now this is insane. It perfectly illustrates why it's hard for a guy to believe that women have any difficulties whatsoever, given the insane difference in numbers. However, it also encapsulates women's complaints about the 'quality' of the likes, because a guy who liked her in this environment was likely giving likes to every other girl as well, a.k.a. being desperate.
What we haven't included yet?... Individual attractiveness. Up until this point, we assumed that everyone is equally attractive, so let's throw attractiveness into the mix, so it would mean that some people have a 95% like to dislike ratio while others have a 1%, and the average for both sexes will be 14% for men and 46% for women.
It was confirmed by one of the developers of Hinge that a small amount of users receive an overwhelming amount of likes (proof). Sound familiar? It's a discussed to death 80/20 rule now confirmed.
Surprisingly, average results don't change, as they stay the same:
The average amount of likes for men: 7.0
The average amount of likes for women: 92.1
The average amount of matches for men: 3.2
The average amount of matches for women: 6.4
Where's the gist? The problem is that it doesn't describe your average user experience, so let's look at the median result for a female and male user:
The median amount of likes for women: 89
The median amount of likes for men: 1
The median amount of matches for women: 6
The median amount of matches for men: 0
Those who claim that apps work for normal people are either lying or simply ignorant. It also solves one of the discussions on who gets more matches: the highest 1 per cent of guys or the highest 1 per cent of women? In this simulation, it turned out to be guys, because they are less choosy than women.
So what are your thoughts on this? Do you think Red Pill rings true or this is primarily due to the environment of today? What else of the discussions are being illustrated by the data from this simulation? What are your thoughts in general?
