Looks comes first chronologically, so that's why it's phrased that way. You're always going to see someone before you get a feel for their personality (I guess unless you meet online on a message board or something), so they have to pass the looks threshold before their personality even enters the equation.

On looks alone, a guy is either a no or a maybe. If he's a no, he doesn't pass her personal looks threshold, she finds him actively unattractive and no amount of personality will get him out of that box. If he passes her looks threshold then he's a maybe, and that's when personality/chemistry comes in to either seal the deal or put him in the no bucket.

What you're describing with girls going after attractive guys and hoping they don't say something stupid to turn her off is her hoping a guy's personality doesn't put them in the no bucket. I'm not sure how it contradicts the idea of a looks threshold. The guy meets her standard for looks, he's a maybe, so now she's evaluating whether his personality makes him a yes or a no. If a guy's good looking enough then personality is going to be the make or break factor.

I'd say my looks threshold is that one must look as though they are taking care of themselves. If you look unhealthy, it's not happening.

Beyond that point, men with good personalities have a better chance of getting a date.

The looks threshold is what allows you to qualify. You can still lose the game if your personality isn’t right. However your looks also give you a handicap for the personality portion depending on the level of your looks

Minimum looks: not overweight (thic is ok, obese is not) and good teeth / smile, because those are things I work hard on myself. Short, tall, boobs, ass, eyes, whatever. I've dated them all (including women on the larger side) and have proven to myself that I am more attracted to a personality. I have never broken up with a woman because of her looks.

Minimum personality: empathetic, grounded, humble, caring, passionate, responsible. This is by far the hardest find. I can deal with anyone as long as they show they have the capacity for moral and personal growth, financial responsibility.

Want to know something really weird? Attractive people actually find fewer people attractive. And less physically attractive people find more people physically attractive. That might sound intuitive to you, it might not. If you believe that everyone sees looks the same, then you might believe (incorrectly) that attractive people are just being shallow and overly picky about looks, when in reality it's just a natural biological response to be less impressed. It also means that less attractive people aren't, as some might think, "desperate." They genuinely have a wider range of people that turn them on.

That's good news, because the answer to your question is "it depends." And not only does it depend, but you can be damn sure that no matter your "level" of looks, you're going to naturally be at least attracted to people on your level or higher and they'll be attracted to you. That's the minimum threshold. As /u/death_by_1000_cats said, the rest comes down to having an attractive personality, which varies from person to person as to what that will be.

Both, but I think they are more willing to compromise on personality in favor of looks than they are to compromise on looks in favor of personality.

A good looking guy has to have a really really bad personality before it's enough to negate his looks. Looks also affect how personality is perceived so a good looking guy will be perceived as funnier, more competent, smarter, trustworthy ect regardless of whether he actually is.

Looks. You can have the greatest personality in the world but if you're ugly then most girls won't give you a chance to showcase that part of yourself.

But most women won't necessarily date some asshole who is racist just because he's good looking. They might sleep with that guy, or some girls might put up with it, but the majority would be turned off instantly I'd think, at least for anything more than sex.

The issue is the looks threshold is completely ignored by blue pillers and women who pretend "women only really care about personality and confidence" and "you're just making excuses if you say your looks are a problem, it's your personality".

And when both are acknowledged, the minimum personality threshold needed is overestimated, and minimum looks threshold is underestimated.

Never forget, Jeremy Meeks is getting thousands of love letters and women's underwear sent to him in prison because of a photo of his good looking face. This is a mugshot of a man who almost beat someone to death, and thousands of women are sending him money while he's in prison even though they've never met him or heard him speak. And then you're trying to convince men that personality is king. LOL. And then consider all the instant tinder hookups that good looking guys get that involve very little personality communication, and women throwing themselves at hot guys in nightclubs that they've spoken to for 10 seconds.

Basically as a good looking guy you need to not be heavily autistic or obviously anxious, and your looks will carry you over the finish line. If you can come across as a normal guy, you're golden.
