I want to sit these boys down at my kitchen table, feed them a great big lasagne, and ask them about their plans for the future.

Neither of them are sexually attractive to me.

not that crazy about either of them but probably Francisco. neither are unattractive and both have cute smiles, but something about Francisco seems more real/natural. also, more genuine, less troublemaker. besides, like others, i prefer the guy with the slimmer build.

will say that slimmer guys are sadly lacking in butt sometimes though ☹️ but generally, everything else...

So yeah Francisco. I took a scroll through his IG and was more impressed than with Sean's.

Neither is my type.

Sean’s face, Francisco’s body (with chest hair, which he only has in a few photos. Also love his tattoo).

Sean’s body is too groomed, Francisco’s face is too feminine. Put a wig on him and he’d make a beautiful woman.

[–]LittleknownfactsVaguely Uncivil Comment2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My vote is for Franky hands down. The first couple pictures were like meh, but the more I scrolled the more I liked him. He looks best when he has a bit of facial scruff.

Edit: yeah, Sean has a handsome face, but that build + the waxed and greased chest make him look like a Ken doll. Pass...

[–]GinSmokeLies 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, his body grosses me out. But his face is way more attractive to me than the other guy's, and I think he has the more attractive build in terms of raw ratios. I just hate the slick hairless look, ugh, whyyyyy.

[–]haunting-you 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

even as a non body hair fan, agreed about the waxy greasy look. same for pretty much any bodybuilder pics posted here by guys... the natural no/minimal body hair is good (to me), weird ken doll is not.

[–]writingtochucow1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Both of these men are spectacular/virtually flawless specimens of human (male) beauty. My first impression was that guy #2 (Sean) was sexier (esp in this pic: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/04/19/4a/04194a4c67c64fa9ceb256e54b3af72e--sean-faris-eye-candy.jpg )

but! after having checked out their social media, I'm gonna go with guy #1 and this is now about 'impressions from social media' rather than looks. Sean Faris is a total basic bro. Inspirational quotes on your Insta are never, never OK - especially if you're a guy. Also, angles seem to really matter for this guy's face - in quite a few photos he's not my thing, in others he's hot af.

Francisco has a beautiful face. That's one of those male faces where you know he's a model before anyone tells you. A rare face. Not many humans that good-looking on this planet. He's also a father and husband and his social media seems a little more down to earth.

So yeah photos alone? Sean. Photos + social media? Francisco.

[–]haunting-you 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sean Faris is a total basic bro.

yes! this. thank you; i knew there was something else that bugged me about him, and that's it. blech, bros.

[–]GridReXXit be like that2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you!

I also didn’t choose Sean because his IG presence ruined it. He seems sweet tho but just basic and too many bad angles and guido clothes.

Neither will the women of PPD with anxious or avoidant personalities, who seem to be rather prevalent here.

I didn't pay much attention to this table when I reviewed this study in a post a quite a while back since it was irrelevant to the point at hand, but recently looked at it again to find this gem.

Basically, women with avoidant or anxious "attachment styles" were likely to rate men that had characteristics which women in the full sample revealed to be attractive as unattractive.

For example: toned, well-groomed, smiling men were generally rated as more attractive. Anxious or avoidant women tended to rate down the men who had "toned," "well groomed" or "smiling" characteristics. Results there were statistically significant.

Without statistical significance, they also downrated men who appeared confident, intelligent and stylish.

I'm dubbing this "legbeard denialism."

[–]pinkgoldrose3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Which part is denial? It seems to check out that women with low self-esteem don't like toned, well-groomed, smiling men. It also shows that the same is true for men. Anxious men dislike smiling, well-groomed, intelligent women.

[–]Merger-ArbitrageTriggermaster, Non-Pill, Cutting through the crap...0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's what seems to be a conscious downplaying/downgrading of men that have those (seemingly conventionally attractive) traits.

[–]LittleknownfactsVaguely Uncivil Comment1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

None of this said they weren't actually attracted to the men with those traits though.

[–]Merger-ArbitrageTriggermaster, Non-Pill, Cutting through the crap...0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup, exactly.

They are, however, consciously downplaying (or possibly even outright denying) the attractiveness of those men.

[–]haunting-you 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

not denying that there are women here with anxious or avoidant personalities... but i don't think anyone was saying these guys were uggos or whatever. generally, they're also both toned, well groomed, and smiling.

based on that, i don't think your comment was as meaningful or 'exposing' as you were hoping it would be.

[–]Merger-ArbitrageTriggermaster, Non-Pill, Cutting through the crap...0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (9 children) | Copy Link

but i don't think anyone was saying these guys were uggos or whatever. generally, they're also both toned, well groomed, and smiling.

The same study does suggest that women have somewhat more variable preferences in which men they find attractive.... BUT:

Some of this is has to be denialist downplaying:

a The other guy is just meh

b Not my type

c not that crazy about either

d Neither is my type

e Both are not my type

f Neither of them are sexually attractive to me.

Essentially, the ratio of bullshit/denialism to honesty on PPD is rather high.

It would be too revealing to say they are "uggos", so the above is used as a placeholder to seem more reasonable.

Also, it points out to the negative reaction to those dudes' very high level of grooming in particular (I don't know if I'd go as far as shaving my chest personally, but some other comments are pretty revealing). Just a bunch of anxious and/or avoidant women REEing.

based on that, i don't think your comment was as meaningful or 'exposing' as you were hoping it would be.

My comment was not very exposing, as people have already commented on this based on their hunches and personal experiences (women on reddit/PPD being full of shit, "because personalities"). It was pretty meaningful, however, as there's actual science out there (which I missed before) which shows these hunches that people had here were actually true, whether you like to think so or not.

none of that is saying that the guys are unattractive; just that the woman in question doesn't necessarily, personally find themselves attracted to the guy, and/or they don't match the type of the woman responding. that, coupled with how female attraction works... it makes perfect sense.

several didn't seem to know who either of these guys are. the images we had to go on are model shots and movie screenshots, with the exception of some social media pages (still questionable). a picture or collection of pictures often just isn't enough. using myself as an example, i can recognize a cute guy in a photo and even acknowledge that i personally think he's cute, but if that's all i've got, i'm going to forget about him shortly after. it's not memorable.

you'll notice that those who did elaborate went on to talk about things that weren't really about the guy's 'look', like his use of inspirational quotes or how many pictures he posted with his family (but even that's limiting).

you either don't really get how attraction works for women (despite women here explaining it over and over and over and over and over and over and over again), or you refuse to because you'd rather just... be that person and ignore it so you can still have something to bitch about, lol. this seems to indicate the latter:

Just a bunch of anxious and/or avoidant women REEing.

[–]Merger-Arbitrage 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Uhuh, that is more like a holistic discussion about attraction for women (would they date or sleep with a guy?) vs. what's going on here, which is about looks specifically (a part of attraction).

you either don't really get how attraction works for women (despite women here explaining it over and over and over and over and over and over and over again),

And I'm supposed to trust the women of PPD to explain how attraction works for women in general? Yeah, no thanks. I'd rather read a romantic novel.

That and the fact that you can't separate overall attraction and physical attraction is quite telling, too. Either more denialism, a cheap Red Herring and an agenda, or just plain ineptitude.

[–]haunting-you 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And I'm supposed to trust the women of PPD to explain how attraction works for women in general? Yeah, no thanks. I'd rather read a romantic novel.

then why are you even here? just dismiss the sub entirely and move on. no losses to either side. no longer will you have to be outraged over women stating what they find attractive, or that they don't want to get with guys who have seen a bunch of prostitutes, or even that they don't want to engage in explicitly detailed discussions about every person their partner has slept with.

I now see the poster you're replying to was 100% serious. I took his initial comment as about 50% serious, 50% jokey. But, anyway, it's now kind of interesting to see him doubling down on this.

Do I think the average level of anxious/avoidant here is probably higher than the average, for both the PPD men and the women? yes. Do I have any proof? No. So that's kind of beside the point.

What I do see with these responses, and the general 'omg PPD women think male supermodels are fug how can any normal man ever hope to find a laydee???!' tone here sometimes is that these dudes, and the one you're responding to here just, in part, don't get how female attraction is different. As a few of us have already pointed out, it is ENTIRELY possible, as a woman, to see that a given man is extremely good-looking. It doesn't then necessarily follow that we want to bang him. So as to 'he's not my type' - I buy that as a legit response here from the women who had it. Or I don't automatically pathologize it, anyway.

Sorry for long response. :)

yeah, it's odd. i mean i would get it if people were straight up saying either of them were omega-level ugly, but no one said that so no one should be taking that away from this. kinda seems like both guys represent just 2 kinds of guys, that aren’t even all that dissimilar... like American Eagle vs. Abercrombie or something. there's a lotta types out there, y'all. a lot. (and i won't pass up the opportunity to post some of them! haha.)

Sorry for long response. :)

not at all! i totally agree.

I don't know about what the "other dudes" do, but I was making it pretty clear not to conflate:

A) Physical attractiveness (which is what I was referring to in my entire post)

with

B1) Overall attractiveness

or

B2) The desire of a woman to date and/or actually sleep with someone

A =/= B1 or B2

"A" more simply is the bar a man needs to pass to be fuckable.

All personal preferences / subjective whatever / somewhat more widely varied preferences of women aside, the level of physical attractiveness of some of those men is downplayed by anxious or avoidant women - in some cases consciously.
