Is it a bad thing? Yes

Is it a crime? Yes

Should she be held accountable for it? Maybe. If evidence besides a one off confession is found, then yes. Not saying it didn't happen, but with just one confession that's not enough for a conviction and the trial would be a farce

Is cardi b an objectively terrible person who should be blacklisted from the music industry for her past? Absolutely not

Why? Because holy fuck there are so many rappers who have committed crimes. Who have admitted to selling drugs, murder, robbery, rape, assault, gang affiliations, and a whole host of other felony charges that are objectively terrible. And they're still around, unpunished and unjudged for their past.

Committing crimes in your past is a terrible thing. It's not a thing you should look back on in pride. It's not a thing you should carry around as a badge of honor. It's a shitty thing you did in a shitty period in your life that you should feel bad for doing, but it doesn't stop you from moving forward and being a better person.

But everyone knows that, so why even comment?

Because the outrage toward cardi b is rooted in sexism, plain and simple.

Do y'all really want to sit there and say it's not? When's the last time you tweeted that everyone forgot that Gucci mane killed someone? Or that lil Wayne sold drugs and robbed people? Or that young thug sold drugs and ran a gang and was probably involved if not directly responsible for multiple murders. Or that Tupac sexually assaulted women? Or that suge knight murdered someone? These are people who are wildly successful in rap and hip hop who have not only committed and gotten away with crimes to the level of cardi b, but who openly brag about their crimes(albeit not directly) in their music.

And it's not like they all got away with it. Tupac, lil Wayne, young thug and more have spent time in prison. But it wasnt for the crimes mentioned. It was weapons charges. And their careers barely suffered. Their public image barely suffered. Hell, Tupac is held up as one of the greatest rappers of all time. Lil Wayne is too.

Is it ok that cardi b drugged and robbed men? Am I ok with it? No, obviously not. But its sexist to hold this over her head as some big gotcha when over half of the rest of the people in the industry she is in have done similar or worse things and no one bats an eye. And its sexist to keep bringing this one back if you all decide you're going to keep listening to the rest and supporting the rest.

Hell, I'm not even a cardi b fan. I'll be the first to admit I dont really like or listen to her music. But every time this shit gets dragged out it's the same thing. Its the same double standard you all dont realize you're perpetuating. So either get up in arms about the Male rappers who "got away with it", or sit the fuck down and shut up.

People seem to think what happened with cardi is comparable to other rappers or rap music in general, it’s not.

The difference is she admitted it in a serious setting rather than saying it in a song. Plus people have come forward accusing her of the things she’s now admitted to. A lot of rappers say that stuff in their songs, but whether or not they actually did it... eh

Also many talk about those times in a negative light. They aren’t proud of it. Those that are, have been getting what they deserve. Tay-K, YNW melly and 6ix9ine for example are all facing many years in prison. They were all the type of rappers to brag about killing someone.

A lot of newer, really big artists aren’t like that and I think it’s great. Mainstream rap is slowly moving away from its roots of being proud of terrible things. That’s why people are so mad about cardi. You don’t see J Cole or Travis Scott bragging about murdering people. Even Kendrick is clearly regretful of the vague notions he gives to what he may have done in the past and he’s probably the most popular rapper out there right now.

If anything, people being “obsessed” with cardi and what she’s done, shows progress.
