While they certainly help explain the origin of certain behaviors, I think humans have too far removed ourselves from natural selection as a whole for that to fully answer the problem.

Its not that useful to use evolition to understand the actions of individuals, it really is very useful to understand the actions of groups of humans.

To just expand on my reasoning for a bit in regards to societies attitudes of protecting woman and sacrificing men. Lets say we have 2 hunter gatherer groups. Each has 140 individuals, 50% female.

Group A sends only men to hunt.

Group B sends only woman to hunt.

In the case of tragedy where a large portion of your hunting party gets wiped out those 2 groups will face different outcomes. In the case of Group A, you only need one man to survive. That one man can impregnate all the woman of the tribe so that in little over a singe generation the groups population can bounce back to a healthy number. In Group B's case, if most of the woman are wiped out it can take many generations for the clans numbers to slowly increase, if the clan even survives. If you have 70 men and 5 woman then there's still only 5 pregnancies that can be had at a time.

Given this, it's no surprise that our societal attitudes towards men and woman match this perfectly onto our evolutionary incentives. Loosing large groups of woman spells the death of the clan. I don't think that it's all one massive coincidence.

Now I will say, overall I very much agree with you. I do value evolutionary psychology for the answers it can give as to the origin of these behaviors. I think you're absolutely right to say that natural selection is the primary (by primary I mean first not necessarily the most prominent) reason humans have for so long behaved in this manner.

The only thing I really have to rebutt is that I was not trying to suggest that because people do not consciously think of their evolutionary drives, that means they don't play a role. On the contrary, I meant more so that our evolutionary drives have expanded into areas that were never "intended" or selected for. It will never sink in. People often seek dominance/superiority. The idea that we will ever reach true equality is a pipe dream at best. That said, I don't think feminism ever had a true siding for equality. It's always been about gaining more rights, even if it cost men theirs. Some of the original "feminist" leaders wanted women to be in charge because they thought they would do better than men, which is sexist. The first wave is thought of as this heralding symbol for women as it's most remembered for fighting for women's right to vote but that's just the surface level. Now, thanks to the rise of the internet and social media, it's just become more apparent that feminism is toxic to men. We think it started with second or third wave but it's always been there. Social media just brought what was underneath into the light.

There is no such thing as "true feminism", there are merely a variety of interpretations and different groups with their own view what is feminism and what is not.

I support equality, not feminism, some feminism might be closer to my believes, other farther away.

However one thing that everyone can be certain of when comparing equality to feminism, is that all feminism is inherently having it in its name to be for women, not for men.

So it would be common sense to me that anyone that actually believes in equality would pick the equality group to affiliate with instead of the one that is in all practicality a double moral no matter how you look at it, in minimum one way.

This point of view is flawed, much in the same way that supporting „equality“ instead of black lives matter for example. You and me are (most certainly) white males, and even if we mean well and want to support a just cause we usually fail to comprehend that those movements are not „anti man / anti white“ and invariably apply our own experiences for context.

But our experiences are not comparable to either women or non white people, since we belong to a segment of population that has never experienced their side of the coin. It’s not just an illusion though, the Courts actually give it to them. If she took him to Court and provided this video as evidence, he’s the one that suffers the consequences, likely going to jail.

I want to add that I sympathize with true domestic violence victims and some people truly are horrible for what they do to their partners. However, with the way the US court system treats men & women, women are able to act belligerently, inflicting physical and emotional abuse on men, basically poke sticks at bears, yet they only face relatively minor consequences, if any.

As soon as police are called in, no matter the cause, the Courts swing into action and will overwhelmingly punish the male, even if the guy was just reacting how any normal person would react to physicsl/emotional abuse from another person or even if no violence actually occurred.

Should he have been the “better man” and not reacted like that? I think he already showed her waay more tolerance than he would’ve a guy doing the same thing, a guy would’ve been punched within the first few finger points.

Like why on earth is the blame always on the one who got attacked to behave and not go over the top with his reaction?

If one person starts trouble, and then gets physical, there shouldn't be a discussion about how hard the reaction was. If you start something, you take responsibility for it.

How messed up do you have to be to believe that just being powerless gives you the right to freely attack people stronger than you without them being allowed a reaction or them being forced to think twice how to react so it can be accepted as properly.

If someone walks into a school with a gun that is not loaded, just to scare people, what do you think the legal consequences will be? Will the state say "oh alright, you never were a threat because that gun is not loaded, just go your way good sir" or will you be in trouble?
