Not really. Some people cosplay because normally dressing like that will result in people judging you, which matters, especially in the professional world. When you're in a group of like minded individuals, beta or not, you're allowed to dress however you want without fear of any direct consequences. Doesn't always have to mean that they are unsatisfied with themselves.

The reddit meetup in my town is somehow worse, but in a different way. There's ONE girl who's fuckable at best. Not all of them are bad, and your mileage may vary depending upon the city. I'm part of the Reddit Facebook group in my city, and usually it's just people throwing an idea out there for something fun to do. Some things are planned ahead, and some are last minute like going out to grab a beer. The few that I've been too have been way less awkward, and mainly have been used as a way to meet up with people with similar interests, the great unifier being Reddit.

Like I said though, your mileage may vary depending on the city.

I'm giving you my anecdotal evidence from having attended a reddit meetup in a town where a large, public, state-flagship university is located. It was a small group comprised of mostly dudes and it was a couple hours. I don't think anybody came away from it any more or less beta than they were beforehand.

I didn't have any knobs to slob on my agenda that day, so I figured I'd go to the reddit meet-up instead. I'm sure others are busier with that sort of thing, like you say.

As someone who is just now getting into shape - 40 pounds down today - I can understand to a degree. I was never anywhere near the bigger guys in this picture, but fatness sort of creeps up on you. You learn to eat a certain way and continue doing that, and then one day you look up and you're 50 pounds heavier. The problem is that getting fat is a vicious circle. First, you're lazy, so you eat junk food, and then you get fatter, which makes you more tired and lazy, so you eat more junk food, etc, etc, etc. Plus, junk food is scientifically engineered to all but addict you to it. The fact that being fat is slowly becoming accepted by certain segments of society - even if those segments would never consider a partner as fat as they are - only makes it easier to stay fat. It's still their fault that they are that huge, but I can understand the factors that helped them along.

I get what you're saying. I do. But when you're taught to eat like a fatass by your parents from the moment you can eat solid food, it is a difficult process to realign the bits of your brain that have grown accustomed to a constant diet of fat, carbs, and salt. Most of the people I know who are or have been fat, including me, first got fat in their preteen or teenage years and kept up their eating habits in adulthood. Many fit people are the same way; they are taught to eat healthily and to exercise as children, so they maintain that habit as they age. Again, I'm not absolving fat people of their responsibility. It's still their fault that they're landwhales. But the fact that the choice to expand is ultimately theirs doesn't mean that we can't say that things like poor parenting, an increasingly accepting culture, and food designed to overwhelm our brains' pleasure centers are contributing factors.
