In this thread: people who have never held down a plate trying to give advice on what he should have done. You did the exact right thing here. You played it perfect.

No, you shouldn't tell girls up front that you never want a relationship. You shouldn't tell them you're exclusive if they ask, but you don't need to tell them about who you're dating. It's none of their business.

Waving at her and leaving was perfect. Best thing you could have done. It showed that you weren't rattled by seeing her and at the same time, you weren't going to stick around for an awkward conversation.

And of course, during your talk, you drop the 'dread game.' Perfect example of it. You let her know that she can walk if she's not happy with the situation. You present her with her two options, which was the same two options she had before she saw you with another girl: stay with you in the relationship on your terms (non-exclusive) or leave. Simple. Perfect.

All this bullshit about the girl getting angry and accusing you of rape, etc. etc., that's all crap. You showed her exactly how close she can get to you. You didn't tell her you were exclusive with when you weren't. You did nothing wrong. Women know this and accept it. When you give them the option to make their own decision, they don't get angry with you. If anything, they are angry at themselves. But typically they just learn to accept it for what it is or walk when they are ready to walk away from whatever it is.

Two lessons here for you. First, I wouldn't recommend a hard dump here. After all, she did concede that you two should still see each other. You're in the catbird seat, and going too hard would cause more problems than it would solve. There's a difference between using power and abusing power.

That said, a lesson that I had to learn during my 20s (I'm 34 now) is that whoever defines the relationship the most committed is the one driving the definition of the relationship. Oh, they may say that they're OK with things not being committed. Her reaction tells you all you need to know about what she thought about the relationship.

Here's a story from my 20s for you. I had this long-term FWB situation with a Cougar. We had an understanding that we could see other people, and we were friendly enough that we could openly discuss them without any sort of drama. As luck would have it, I ended up meeting this girl around my age, hit it off, and decided to try the relationship thing with her. When I told her that I was cutting off the D supply because of a relationship, she went absolutely apeshit, crying and screaming that we'd be back together.

Obviously, she didn't look at me as a "friend" even if I looked at her as a friend. LOL

About a month ago, two of my plates met each other too. I had spent days with both of them alternately, doing nasty in secluded corners of our school (was still in high school then, knew some quiet spots). Anyways, the two of them didn't know each other. All of a sudden, they come walking together down the hall towards me. Primary plate looks miserable, secondary plate looks slightly pissed. #2 must have seen me go off with #1. #2 goes off in the middle of the hallway about how she doesn't want anything to do with cheaters, and that she's done. I accept that, commend her for doing what she thinks is right. Primary looks close to tears, and after #2 storms off, asks if we can go talk. We go somewhere quiet, #1 gets angry, asks how many other girls there are. I black-knighted the fuck out of her- told her that I had as many girls lined up as there are stars, and that she could leave if she wanted. Surprise, surprise, #1 wants to stick around even if she's one of many. Had angry sex afterwords, it was great.

Once introduced to the concept by trp, I just cannot believe how much women will refuse to act unless they can get validation from you that they're right. Validate their feelings that something is wrong, and they will run you over on their way out the door. "Asshole". Or even "Thanks for being such a great guy as I dump your ass".

Refuse to validate their feelings while letting them know they can make the decision to leave if they want, and they will sit and spin forever. They really, really don't like to make a decision without others agreeing that that's what they should do. It's a lot people with jobs - people talk about wanting to quit all the time, often they don't until they get fired or some external factor agrees with that they should quit.

The mistake you did was to not tell her that you have another girl. Its insufficient to say you are non-exclusive. Most girls will assume its the girl who is non-exclusive.

I always make it a point to say stuff like "Girl XXX is flirting with me, I think I'll ask her to take me out to drinks to see if she's just playing", etc.

Its the suddenness of the relevation that made it so shocking for her. Slow boiling the frog does wonders for plate tolerance.
