To be honest, if Instagram has caused mental health issues in the past (or you just find yourself aimlessly wasting a lot of time scrolling) it is going to do yourself more good by not having it then ‘missing out’ and feeling like crap.

I ditched Instagram recently for the same reason and will never go back.

I have this exact dilemma. I'm 17 and all my friends have it. I play varsity soccer and I feel left out not being in their ig group chat. At my age it's not "cool" to text on messages as everyone uses snap or ig. I am pretty good looking and I think I'd get girls to message me on ig as well. But then comes the problem of it being terrible for your mental health. Sorry that I couldn't help with your situation but I could totally relate. Looking forward to others' responses here.

Like you said IG is filled with girls. If you are in the dating game then social media kinda helps sometimes.

But other than that, I dont think you missing out much.

To tackle this I just opened a fake IG account of a car and am following b-grade unsuccessful celebrities and public figures and young influencers from different cultures. This way i don't miss out. I visit that boring ass account once a week. This also helped me get out of SM addiction

I dont have facebook or Instagram. But I have a creative account on instagram. If I need anyone's contact, women I'd consider dating, I'd seek her insta ID. I don't like Insta. It's a narcissist's circle jerk with overused music and idiocracy. I have around 200 followers and around 180 follows.

Women enjoy mystery. But usually women stay active on Insta rather than fb or whatsapp or Twitter.

What's your desire? To sleep with women or to have quality women in your life?

i'm a chick who has been in a similar situation. whenever that thought goes through my mind i gotta remind myself that it isn't healthy. people only post the picture perfect parts of their life, and when normal people living normal lives are confronted with that fake "perfection" it becomes impossibly hard to keep yourself from holding oneself to that same standard. stay sane and off social media. i survive, and many others survive without it. i swear to you that you aren't missing out on anything. best wishes. :)

Social media is unrelaxing. There is nothing that could benefit you. The whole app is filled with people trying to look as best as possible and also the whole app will give you content that is not healthy for you. Also it became soft porn app for women with issues to show off their bodies , they are going to act really high quality women but most of the time they are women with mental issues without a chip of respect for themselves so they need to gain respect from other people, by reading all of those compliments about another booty pic or any pic.

Id say only half my friends have it and now I dont look like a thirsty dude sliding into all the chicks DMs. Also I did log back into mine 6 months ago for 5 minutes... saw my EX and a bunch of other peoples crappy lives had and anxiety attack an dont want to go back on. 15 months past without instagram, and I was never on snapchat, people ask me all the time why I am not on insta and i tell them diff reasons everytime lol , i would say it has a positive effect on me, switching it off has made me focus on myself, and I am at peace. I am more excited for real life stuff now. Regarding dating, don't worry, the principle of dating is first focus on yourself, so if not being on social media helps in that, so its a good thing, plus you when you will meet people irl , you will have a lot to discuss, sometimes people just show me their insta stories and we just laugh.

What I do is, I have an account that I upload pictures on every 3-4 months. I only use it for that and messaging my friends/dates.

Instagram is horrible. Its algorithm and utility basically operates like TikTok. Avoiding the gram is a smart move. The worst 3 social media apps for mental health are Insta and Snap. TikTok can be just as detrimental depending on the type of media you are consuming and how frequently you scroll.

I deleted my Insta account last year (18M) I tried deleting my snap acc but I decided not to. I delete my social media apps almost every single day.

I think there will be some girls that you’ll miss out on if you don’t have one, I don’t think you’re missing out in much by dropping them. I didn’t have one for a while until a girlfriend made me download it and now I post every now and again.

I think you are slightly limiting yourself without it but if it’s a question of hooking up with a couple more girls or your mental health definitely prioritize your mental health.

Don't install it. Everything related to seduction aside, Instagram is an excellent tool to waste your time thanks to it's algorithm which knows exactly what you like. I personally uninstall it during the week and just answer dm's during the weekend. My time management has got about twice as better.

What I do is check IG on my mobile chrome browser and I'm not logged into IG elsewhere. That way I check it once a week or maybe twice a month

I'm going to take the unpopular opinion that yes, you are missing out on a lot. If you take time to invest in creating a good profile that showcases your best moments and your passions, then there is nearly endless potential for connection, both platonic and romantic, through the app. Invest some time in putting up good photos, acquire more followers, and use your whole profile as a demonstration of your value. Follow girls you meet via cold approach and sometimes it can lead to opportunity down the line even if they don't respond at first, so long as you demonstrate your value through your content. I don't often hear super social and confident men talking about how Instagram is bad for their mental health... Because they are using it properly and it's bringing them a wealth of social opportunity. It's a Reddit driven mindset that is parrotted by dudes who spend hours a day on this social media platform rather than the one that could actually help their social life.

Find myself in the same position. My ex was big into insta and used to get dms from guys every now and then.

She said that the dms never really worked. But I got the app towards the end of our relationship and am just regretting it. Bad for mental health and draws your attention to everything you feel like you dont have.

Like if you find yourself feeling lonely without the app, then the platform will only cut you deeper.

But that said, good to have a presence out there. For both girls and just in general, especially if good looking and interesting. You have to put a lot of time and effort to build followers that you'll know though in order to get a date out of it..

Persoanlly I have it with a couple of class photos on it. And if I meet a girl that I like then I'll DM her afterwards with a "hey, it was great chatting to you the other night ect"

I don’t use Instagram and I haven’t for about 7-8 years now. I honestly think it’s the worst social media for mental health with TikTok in close competition.

None of it is necessary, per se. But some form of social media account/presence is basically modern cultures new version of having a phone number.

It's not important that you post regularly or keep up with the Kardashians or whatever. What's important is that you have an account that stands as a point of contact.

I know a lot of people who haven't posted anything to their social media in months or even years and most of what's on their timeline consists of posts where other people tagged them. It doesn't affect their IRL social life at all.

If you want to try online dating apps, that is how you would really scratch the itch your kind of referring to here.
