A lot of women don't like being hit on at the gym. They're there to work out, not date. She probably didn't tell you to fuck off because you're a stranger, and she has no idea if you will react violently to rejection. That may sound extreme, but sometimes guys do crazy shit. Don't feel too bad, you thought you were hitting things off and you turned out to be wrong, these things happen. It sucks that you got dragged on social media, just try to ignore it and not let it get to you. Easier said than done, I know

Also, ignore the people telling you to confront her. Terrible idea. You could potentially get thrown out of the gym or maybe even charged with harassment. Just swallow your pride, take the L, and move on

Women are socialized to be nice. Men can be scary (not saying you are), so many women continue conversations out of fear of not upsetting the other person. A good looking woman has probably had experiences where men get nasty when they reject them. It wasn't in good taste to drag you through the mud on IG, but being nice is probably some survival strategy for her.

It's possible you need to read body language better. A smile and continuing conversation doesn't mean someone wants to talk to you. I smile and talk to people I have no desire to talk to all the time. Look for sustained eye contact, body positioning, hair twirling, laughing, etc. If you get the sense someone just wants to be left alone while they are working out, just leave them alone. The challenge is balancing shooting your shot vs being pushy/creepy.

No need to be confused, her words are very misaligned with her actions, and sure, she could have told you to fuck off, but women are trained to be nice to stay safe around men in situations and she "goes into that mode" like where she's nice and polite. I know a few people who have trouble saying when they are uncomfortable or don't like something. I would ignore her in the future and only talk to the women around her. You could confront her but she's the kind of person who's likely "creating her own reality"

Was she in the middle of exercising when you approached her? If so, some people just don't want to be interrupted and find it annoying. As if this person felt so self-important, as if they are giving me the pleasure of knowing them, they thought it was okay to stop me from what I am doing?

Do you think you'll never see her at the gym again? If so, I can see maybe just going ahead and shooting your shot. If you've seen her before and think you'll see her again, I think it should be built up over 2 or 3 convos. Just a quick convo or helping with a machine just to put your face in her mind at first. Then if you wanted to have a longer conversation, wait until she's cleaning up or stopped for a rest. Also being a small time actress, could it be possible that she's so full of herself, she considers herself unapproachable by "commoners". Side note: even if I'm extremely annoyed or wish someone wasn't talking to me, I will have a complete conversation with smiles and head nods all the way through, so I wouldn't necessarily use that as a good indicator that she showed interest.

It's still shitty that she dragged you on social media, so in the end it was probably a good thing it didn't go further.
