I actually had a girl who I wasn’t attracted to do this and all I could think is “dont touch me”
Edit- I’m probably a hater but all the overly excitable people in the comments are pathetic
[–]peach-fox 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oof that's definitely a possible outcome. Again, to anyone wanting to try this, please always be mindful of body language and not everyone wants to be touched. This trick tends to work best when you both seem to like each other, but haven't quite managed to make that step from "friendly" to "flirting"!
[–]hoothoot6996 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
no way u/FloridaMan2022
[–]coldbrew18 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. I automatically recoil at touch.

Bonus tip: bring a piece of lint with you and have it in your hand, and then reach out to "pick" the lint off of them. Then show them the piece of lint in your hand as proof that you picked the lint off of them. It's sort of like a cheap magic trick. It's a fun way to fuck with people too.
[–]Chemical_Bowler8637 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I would bring a rainbow 🌈 string to fuck with them 😂

If you are 22 and retired from dating, you'll regret that. The whole relationship thing for somebody your age isn't what it's cracked up to be. Your, "trick" is loosely based on human psychology that has been recognized for many years. A female, if she likes you and/or is interested in you will touch you, shoulder, forearm etc during a conversation. This establishes a subconscious feeling of trust. People will tell you how much interaction they want with you with body language. If you are talking to someone while standing. If you see their feet disecting the midpoint of your body, they are open to talking to you, comfortable with your presence. If their feet are facing away from you in any fashion, they either don't care too much for you, their body is saying I want outta here

Finally, a comment written from some experience here.
Nothing wrong with being in a happy relationship, but You’re just discovering life at this point. Still an Infant (Written by another 22 yr old infant)
Every guy could do with a refresher on the basics of kinosthetics (most of the science behind flirting tips). Friends touch each other. Relatives touch each other. People want to be touched. If you’re flirting and they reject your touch, then you weren’t close enough for them to accept that touch from you. Recalibrate, maybe lower the escalation level, but don’t be afraid to try again.
[–]peach-fox 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I hear you and you're not wrong! Currently, I'm in a happy relationship that I see myself staying in for the foreseeable future, but of course, that doesn't necessarily mean forever. But before finding myself in this relationship, I did a LOT of casual dating and flirting. So for now, flirting days are definitely over.
As for body language, you're absolutely right. But this is just a really easy way to introduce that trust and extra step people often struggle with. Often that leap between "Okay we seem to REALLY get along. Do they like me too? Are they interested?" to "Yes we are definitely flirting" can be tricky. This tip can often help make that leap and works great if you're shy. At least, I think so, but feel free to disagree! :)

That's mainly bs tbh. Might be true in 30% of the cases but to use this as a rule is just dumb.
[–]EndProfessional5395 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The mistake you're making is in assuming to only look at one cue. That certainly isn't what the commenter is getting at. It's just one of many signs, and one of the more overt ways people express comfort and interest.
[–]maxpossimpible 4 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
These things you should be able to feel if you don't have aspergers.
[–]EndProfessional5395 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agree. Some people just need it to be explicit

I'll sleep a lot better at night knowing how you feel. How did the dating world ever survive without you 🙄😂😅🤣. Any advice any of you folks need ask maxpossimp.

I’m chillin laying next to a guy and while he was talking and listening asking questions, stopped and pretended he had some fluff on his eyebrow and plucked it off then ran my finger across his eyebrow and said “you had fluff all better” and he had the biggest smile. Ps. There was no fluff I just wanted an excuse to be close to him and touch him
[–]Disciplineisonly 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
this is cute. i've seen somebody do this before and tbh I think it works.

It feels like a korean fantasy thing. I came here for advice not to get my shit smacked out.
[–]Reaver_ 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is one of those bits of advice where this will totally work if they're already really interested in you, and if they're not has a 50% chance of just totally creeping them out
[–]PHVEDO 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is great if the girl is already attracted to you, but if she isnt its just fcking weird.
Ugly girls do these kind of things like touching u on the shoulder or getting closer to you and all I can think about is "Dont touch me" which I also tell some of them in the kindest way possible.
If there is attraction already u dont have to do things as gamey as that to spark it more. Its as easy as getting very close to her mby 10-20 cm between ur faces slowly and slowing down your voice of speech. It doesnt even matter what you say at that point if she doesnt move away stays so close and listens to you attentively u can pretty much go and kiss her
[–]cronasminate 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This post is so well-written and articulated with so much confidence that I am inclined to agree. Unfortunately, I think it's actually bullshit. It reminds of all those very well-written articles on New York times that basically tell you the most basic tip. And then everyone acts like "OMG SOOOO TRUEEE."
[–]peach-fox 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
All good points. I see why you might feel like someone isn't listening if they did this. But this is exactly why I suggest then following up by recalling what the interest was talking about to show off those sweet sweet actively listening skills. But of course, that might not cut it for everyone and you're valid to feel that way.
In my opinion, it works best when there is actually lint or fluff or a hair, so if you see it and want to pick it off or just gently point it out, go for it. Personally, I've always done this and similar things (eg. tuck in tags hanging out from the back of shirts etc.) for friends. It's just a small way to show you care. Not to mention, I always try to do things for others I wish people did for me!
But your second point is for sure the most important. If you don't think this is something you'd normally ever do or it feels unnatural, then this probably isn't for you.
Also, I did mention this is nothing new. Just plain old silly psychology. But I think its effectiveness is really underrated and it works great for anyone who's shy.

you are a woman, you do not need strategies to flirt

Ok I can count at least 6 times this has happened to me in the last two years... I am either woefully aloof or need to get a new dryer. Half of these women were married or at least had a ring on their finger too. I guess my next question is, what's the appropriate response when someone does this to you?
[–]rozen30 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Women who are basically like a mom or an older sister to me tend to do this or adjust my collar. I don't think that means they want to bang me.

Thank you for this tip. I have a huge crush on a co-worker. Do you think it is safe to try it in a work environment?
[–]KounterMaze 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A tip from my single days: I (32m) found asking a crush these questions made interactions entertaining for both sides “Are you team waffles or team pancakes?” “ is it cooler to show up at a party at a motorcycle or a monster truck?” “ what’s an inappropriate event to show up in a motorcycle or monster truck” Making fun questions that can start entire conversations made me seem more interesting to women. Tell i met a woman that asked me her own interesting questions, now im engaged lol.
