you're getting downvoted because you are straight faced lying about who you are. this shouldn't be what seddit is all about. it should be about seduction without the need for gimmicks. there is a lot of psychology involved that works without the need for gimmicks and lies.

edit: the lie is, he calls himself a promoter, when he is not, he just has an elaborate scheme. There are actual promoters that do this for a living. he is not doing this for a living, but rather as an opener. I think he can use this method without saying he is something he isn't, "i take pictures for my website" would work, something to that accord.

So as a hollywood club photographer, I'd like to say a couple things

1) You can't just barge into any club with a DSLR and expect to get in without a hitch. Get to know the General Manager's of the club or the Promotion Companies before you start or they won't even let you in the door. When I first started, I definitely BS'd my way in before, but if you tell them beforehand, you'll save a lot of time later and you might get paid for doing it.

2) Do you really think a laminate media pass is going to validate you as a photographer? The reason girls know that I'm not a creeper is because I spent $1000 on a DSLR that can focus on people's faces in the dark (btw, Rebels can't), I bought a $1500 lens, I spent $500 for an external flash, and I have a huge ($50) paparazzi-like flash diffuser. Now, if you want to impress girls and validate yourselves in this expensive way...go ahead, but keep in mind that you're going to look like a tool if you tote around a media pass and dinky DSLR.

3) Why bother with this to form an entourage? Just become friends with a promoter. Depending on the club, they get paid per name they bring in. If they want you to keep coming, I'm sure they'll "lend" you his if you ask nicely enough.

this is interesting... first ill say this kind of this has been going on forever... a great example is www.thecobrasnake.com, their photographers are better, their parties are better, and their girls are better. ..,

i guess second, is i am a portrait/commercial photographer, and doing these "candids" is my least favorite part of my work... i suggest getting rid of the photos that dont have people looking at you, out of focus, eyes closed, etc.... unless they are relevant to the evening... keeping your gallery edited well helps maintain a professional appearance

wababs has a point about gear, a good camera used correctly makes a huge difference... i use a gary fong dome diffuser, usually pointed straight up for party kind of shots... also for dancing, i use a sync cord so i can hold the camera and flash in separate hands... this effect with about a 12mm lens, and about 1/10 shutter looks great... you get your subject lit well, but retain some artifacts from the rest of the composition....

have fun man.... and dont you think posting this and mentioning you're doing it to get laid will catch up with you? ... just sayin'

So I'm not sure how to approach this subject delicately, so I'll just be blunt.

The photography thing is a bullshit pickup tactic. I know it works, I know girls like it, I've seen it work, etc.

But I don't like it. I think the reason is exactly what you said: it's like a cheat code. It's a stealthy, +5 attack from the rear sort of approach.

I'm glad it works for you, I'm overjoyed that you're so willing to give back to the community, and it sounds like you're on your way to being a legitimate club photographer.

My friend and I were thinking about creating a fake modeling or even adult modeling type of website, filling it up with random pictures, making a bunch of great looking business cards, renting out a sweet looking office room once a month and holding fake auditions. The plan was to end up surrounded by beautiful women willing to do anything to get that job. Or something along the lines. My friend got married before we had a chance to do it. Yet again it was one of those "Let's buy a nightclub" type of dreams you dream about with your buddies.
