This is a kinda odd way of looking at things. I don't look at my friends or bf as being "of use" to me because they're men. I suppose my bf's "use" is sex, and all of their "uses" are companionship, which I also give in exchange.

The question is what does a particular person offer you. People don't date and marry "the opposite sex," they date and marry a person (or people.)

Is there anything I can get from men that I can't get from women? No, not really. But there is a shit ton of stuff I can get from a life partner that I can't get from even my closest friends. And since I'm straight, I want a male life partner. So there you go.

Sexual attraction and pleasure. Sex is not just a series of physical maneuvers and sensations. A lot of it takes place in the brain, and how you feel about your partner plays a major role in how good the sex will be.

I don't really see a certain group (gender, race, etc) as playing any sort of role or providing a use to me. I spend time with people because it brings me joy. In some of those cases the joy is physical/sexual, and in all of those cases that's with a woman.

I also have friend that are women. I could be just as close with men, but the relationship I've built with the particular friends I have I wouldnt want to just trade away just because they are women.

I enjoy women's company. I think I am far more in touch with my feminine side and more emotionally astute than most men. There are lots of guys who I've liked over the years, but certainly I had very little in common with most men in my hometown.

I find women have far less hangups than men, many of whom are always worried about whether or not they look or are perceived as being gay, or wussy, or uncool, or not hard / tough, or middle-class when they're working-class, or not rich enough when they're middle-class, or that their cars aren't good enough. Certainly where I come from, which is very blue collar, most men lead an extremely buttoned-down existence.

There have been a few guys who I've really enjoyed hanging out with, but generally women are more interesting and less repressed. All you have to do is tell them that they're not fat every so often, and they can't do enough for you.

I need women in my life because I'm attracted to them. I want to love them, make love to them, find one that is attracted to me and bond together with her. I don't expect women to be my friend and that's why I have guy friends where we can talk about guy stuffs and things that I wouldn't share with a woman. Female romantic companionship is different than friends hanging out. It's about revealing your vulnerability and have someone who can stomach it. Something your male friends might not be able to do for you.
