I heard someone saying that men refering to themseves as sigma males are the "I'm not like the other men" kind of dudes. And I think it's accurate.

I can't take people who use these labels unironically seriously. It's like they try to be special without actually doing anything significant.

Something like basic teenagers trying to be edgy. Just more cringy, because done był grown up men.

Yes, simplistic generalities are inaccurate, exaggerated and often abused. What boys seem to be getting out of the whole alpha/beta/*insert Greek letter* thing is a gross one-sided ideal of who they should be and contrary to popular belief, trying to be an "alpha" doesn't make you into a better man. Labeling yourself as the Greek letter that fits your level of masculinity is as immature as it's useless.

We're not dogs and we shouldn't want to be. We're way past relying on our animal instincts so maybe it's time we started acting like it. People are much more complex than that and you're doing yourself a great disservice by dumbing yourself down to something like that. Someone said it's not far from astrology, and I agree. Both are stupid.

The term Alpha mostly denotes ethological hierarchy in a group structure usually among animals. This has become some new-wave astrology where people designated their own meaning to the terms to fit whatever narrative suits their reality.

Alpha is leader of the group. Beta is any non-alpha male. Omega is some scapegoat type that everyone in a group shits on. Sigma, zeta are mostly made up.

Only use alphas to describe groups. One person can he alpha in one and beta in another one and even be an omega in a different one.

Categorizing people help in quickly understanding people, so you can navigate a social situation easier, but you shouldn’t take it any farther than that, otherwise it’s kinda like taking astrology too seriously.

First of all, if you verbally call yourself an “Alpha,” or a “Sigma” male IRL, my soul will die a little inside at how egotistical you are.

An alpha of the group usually makes the plans and organizes and its very obvious. A sigma is probably a covert alpha that doesn’t like the spotlight and is incredibly competent on their own. If there was some guy who doesn’t talk much but happens to know everyone very well at the occasion and pulled some strings behind the scenes to benefit the group occasion.

Think of every emotionally distant badass loner action movie protagonist and that’s what I’d consider, “sigma.”

Of course this is a disservice to men by categorising them like this. This whole terminology is used in toxic masculinity and it is why men often feel they cannot express their emotions. It is because they are being fed this horse shit that you need to act like an ‘alpha’ male all the time and not show your feelings because that will turn you into a ‘beta’ male.

Also, the whole alpha and beta thing about wolves was later disproven by the guy who originally came up with the theory.

These categories are really very silly.

Even calling someone alpha or beta is highly problematical. I have seen 'alphas' who are just overcompensating, insecure dickheads, who are great at pulling women but utterly hopeless at maintaining any form of relationship over time. And I have seen men who are complete betas in their behaviour towards women, but are selfish and aware enough to drop women like a stone when they are not getting their needs met. It hurts them at the time, but they consistently look after themselves.

In one sense, alpha behaviour is simply male behaviour that turns women on. In another sense, it is not putting pussy on a pedestal and withdrawing from relationships when you are not being treated right. There are also those that take it a step further and try to develop outlandish notions of an 'alpha' as a leader of men, who dominates other men. This is now straying from notions of inter-sexual relationships into intra-sexual relationships. It is fruitless and pointless. And it may stop you from getting laid as often as it gets you laid.

I think they're quite real. Rare, but real. The omegas I've met don't fit the description OP gave for the sigma. To me, a "lone wolf" means they are their own person and don't need the approval of others. This is why they disregard rules and authorities. Because of this, they can also be a real "thorn in the side" of an alpha.

My husband is this way. He's definitely not a beta, and definitely not an outsider either. He can be an alpha when the need arises, but for the most part he prefers to be his own person and do his own thing. And according to his parents he's been this way since he was a toddler.

Sigmas are just alphas that don’t need to dominate a group of other men. There’s really no point in making a distinction. They are still men with the alpha traits that matter to women.

He slightly amended his theory by renaming the "beta" as "bravo" to avoid confusion with "low rank". The important part is that "sigmas" are extremely rare, they are a sort of introvert alpha who do not care about other people's approval or opinion.

99% of heterosexual males would go in the five main categories of alpha, bravo, delta, gamma and omega. Lambdas, Sigmas are "patches" to the very rare cases that do not fit the standard hierarchy.

The alpha/beta traits are derived from group dynamics. Unlike the animal kingdom, human groups can differ widely, and it's easy to traverse groups.

If a guy is 50% alpha 50% beta and you put him in a masculine, high pressure environment like a street gang, he'll express as more beta.

Now say that guy leaves the gang and becomes a software developer at Google. He'll express as more alpha because he's surrounded by betas.

Same guy, different environments, different outcomes.

In this sense, a Sigma to me is simply just a mixed alpha/beta that lacks a group to be compared against. It's easy to be alpha when alphas arent around to challenge you.

The only way I can see sigma being a thing is if a guy has a group of friends of which he is the alpha, but he is not around them at the moment. So he operates alone or consistently forms a temporary "pop up" group of friends formed by new people every time he goes out and is successful with women.

I think it's easier to categorise people on a dominance/pro-social graph. Studies show that pro-social is correlated with attractiveness in men when dominance is high, but negatively correlated when dominance is low.

Therefore, Melvin who buys you coffee because he's a great guy but a bit of a doormat is going to lose to Brad who openly tells misogynistic jokes but is the leader of his football team who loses to Kelvin who's a volunteer fire-fighter.

If you're socially dominant, you ARE an "alpha". It's pretty much just a blanket term used to describe men with high leadership skills.

However, every man I've met who describes himself as a "sigma" is usually just a loser with bad social skills who's using it as a coping mechanism. Every alpha has also been a middle of the pack loudmouth. I think most people use them as coping mechanisms to reassure themselves of where they are in the hierarchy, with sigmas telling themselves they aren't even in it.

My classification:

Alpha: the top, always gets what he wants, every woman is wet for him.

Beta: a normie, someone who has sex if he puts effort but women do not desire him for what he is.

Gamma: more on the shy end, is overall like beta but struggling really hard, can get sex once in a while if he puts lots of effort, gets really rich and/or stars align properly

Omega: absolutely hopeless, extremely shy, no matter what he does he is preconditioned to fail, sex is only with prostitutes (if even they do not reject him).

They don't exist. There are only two types of males:

Alpha: Determined by successful outcomes through minimal effort.

Beta: Determined by lack of Alpha outcomes. Success may or may not occur.

All other classifications are meaningless and unrelated to Red Pill theory.
