When you're trying to pick up a cashier or someone who works in retail it's a bit different to normal game. Basically we get paid to work the tills and part of that is being nice to customers. So unless you're getting major signals it's probably just her doing her job.
One way that could work is something along the lines of "If you weren't working right now and I asked you for your number what would you say?" It takes them out of the work mode and lets them know you're serious and not just messing around. Plenty of people flirt with the cashiers, it's par for the job and we all know it.

as someone who has to be up early every day, even on weekends, lately my only social interaction is shopping. you're right, there's tons of pressure when you're in line at the grocery store, it's like your little line of groceries is sand in an hour glass.

i've tried a few times to get phone numbers lately, and i've done it in the past too, but needless to say, these chicks are supposed to be nice to every body, i think they are specifically coached to smile and be overly friendly. also, depending on your age, i think they can start working at a grocery store at 15 or 16, so keep that in mind. most of them are young.

of the last few attempts, one would not give me her number even though i talked to her quite a bit, i even tried a second time, won't try again. pretty sure she is like 10 years younger than me. the other one gave me a number, and when i texted her to see if she wanted to go out, said "she wasn't looking to get into anything", whatever that means. third one was at a gas station, got her number, texted a little trying to hang out, too flaky, waste of time.

anyways, my point is with this you're never gonna know, they're gonna be friendly no matter what. there is no secret to any of this, i think if someone is interested they're gonna make themselves available in any situation.

also, don't give your number, that shit rarely works. i don't like the idea of having to be at their mercy if i wanna try to hang out. every time i have tried that i've regretted it.

Talk to her, even if it's busy you can get a couple of sentences back and forth. Just kind of gauge it situation by situation. If you do it a few times this will let you know if she's into you or not. Then just pull the trigger. "What time do you get off./when are you free." Whatever. Don't wait too long to do it though.

I lost it at eye contact. I'm pretty sure most companies mandate you look directly at the customer and say something along the lines of "did you find everything alright?". That being said, it might be something if you notice her eyein' you from a couple lanes over. Or it could just be pure chance because she had an involuntary spasm that caused her to look where you were standing.

I work retail and watched the most pitiful display on an attempt. Don't do the following: "Hey I'm ____ and I just had to ask, can I get your number? You are gorgeous and I'm not really much of a ladies man but I thought I'd try." He hadn't even previously talked to her, bought anything, and he interrupted her conversation with our manager. What ensued was awful I had to watch him crash and burn and see his confidence get crushed. Poor guy.

Dude. Take everyone's advice and seriously ask the girl. I'm a female cashier and I've seen plenty of flirting going on at the register. A few times some men have been serious and slipped me their number or even asked for mine. I've also refused to give my number out.

Yea being a cashier is meh, but we're there to make money so we have to be polite. Be serious and ask the girl. She'll take a chance and go for it or she'll not feel it and politely decline. But she's at work and that's usually tough for guys to hit on girls because they have cameras on them, their managers possibly gawking nearby, and a job of ringing up the people behind you.

Whatever you do, dont sound creepy. Give her a little compliment "i come here all the time and you always catch my eye" she's gonna blush. come back on another slow day which are usually mornings (i worked as a cashier for two and half years) since you already visit the market often if she's the one you kinda like then always go to her line be polite and smile. after a while she'll notice you kinda like her and thats when you ask for her number. if she likes you she'll give it to you and if she doesn't dont push it.
