Does anyone notice /r/feminism doesn't really talk about anything?

It's hard to discuss anything when any opinion slightly out of lock-step is deemed to be of a shitlordly manner and summarily banned. I don't fully agree with everyone in this sub, but we allow dissent and discussion here.

Well, first of all there aren't many people posting and discussing there (could be because they are very ban happy over there).

Secondly, half the time they post pity shit that's not important to feminism ( probably happens because nobody is allowed to call the OP out on it).

Thirdly, if they have a good post going nobody is calling out the people taking it too far, it all devolves in to a huge circle jerk (why? because they are fucking banning everyone who doesn't agree).

I was actually looking for a good feminist subreddit on reddit and /r/feminism seemed like the place to go, 1 week in to posting there I got banned.

It's not that there are no feminist issues, it's not that there aren't people on reddit in favor of advancing woman rights and fighting against injustice against woman. It's just that what they call "safe space" or a "platform for discussion" devolves in to a echo chamber with no dissenting opinions allowed.

That's the death of any quality subreddit. I love that in /r/mensrights I CAN call out OP for posting pity unimportant shit, I love that we CAN have heated discussions of opposing opinions in the comments, I love that even people who hate man can come here. An open platform is the only way to change minds. /r/mensirghts has matured over time. I see less and less stupid rants and simply hating on all women because one woman did something stupid. I see more relevant and important issues posted. It didn't happen on it's own, the rational majority part of the MRM community beat out the extremists and that doesn't happen in an echo chamber. Only in an open community.

I hope we can see a feminist subreddit more modeled like /r/mensrights on reddit one day because I would like to participate in one.

TL;DR: Banning of dissenting opinions leads to a low quality content forum and promotes extremism. Even a member who agrees with 80% of the agenda will be removed and what's left is only the 100% extremist who is unattractive to the majority.

Don't go there much, but it's hardly surprising a feminist forum would mostly talk about the patriarchy. There are a few feminists who don't buy into it, but most do.

Yeah, I've noticed. Modern feminism is a movement desperately seeking a cause. So many first world problems.

Someone was mean to me on a gaming forum. Someone said "fork his dongle" within earshot. Some guy on the street yelled "nice ass" at me. Hollywood fails the Bechdel test too often. Why doesn't the princess save Mario? They won't teach their sons not to rape! Not enough women choose to be politicians. This could be a very long list...

It's hard for feminists to make substantive points when they base their world view on such a bogus foundation: patriarchy, rape culture, supposed wage gap and lack of agency.

Sure, but isn't Reddit famous (or infamous) for being an MRA bastion? From what I know, it's much more likely that a feminist who wanted to discuss something via social media would do so on Tumblr

Not only do they not talk about anything, but they don't ever bring up relevant issues faced by women in contemporary western societies.

I suscribed to /r/Feminism hoping to get a glimpse into their way of thinking and perhaps a more balanced coverage of gender issues. I have yet to see any interesting info or compelling argument.

Either they post about incredibly trivial 1st world problems such as female armor in MMORPG, either it's about horrific human rights abuse in third-world countries in which the situation cannot compare to any extent to what we know in western countries.

Their ideology doesn't allow for dissent and has all manner of neat thought terminating cliches to respond to any idea they don't want to hear.

Seen this too often already, so I'm nipping this circle jerk in the bud.

/r/Feminism is actually one of the better social justice subs, and I'm one of those who is already weary of overly-PC pomoism.

For a sub that "doesn't really talk about anything" they have a lot of content. From spending 5 seconds glancing at the thread topics there right now, I found discussions on:

tech's gender and race gap
African feminist theology
an introspective thread "Think about your words" / self-critique (how fucking rare is that in a political sub)
a post about Saudi women

and so on.

Sort by top comments, and you see the same pattern. A lot of introspection and some stuff about abortion.

The last time I saw any major drama there, it was because the mods there were being accused by some of the more radical members of being in support of the MRM. The mods basically came out and said [paraphrasing]: "Yeah, that's right, and there's nothing wrong with that. Gender equality. woohoo."

If it sounds like they don't talk about enough, maybe it's because they don't bitch as much as most political subs.

Look, I'm wary of populist SJW subs too. I commiserate with some of the most extreme of angry men. But there are better things to bitch about.

/r/feminism just seems like a mens hate circlejerk honestly. Half the posts/comments are bashing men, and the other half are just.. not issues honestly. Theres a post on their front page right now about how it's unfair what clothes they're forced to wear in RPG games. Like.. seriously?

The women over at /r/TwoXChromosomes are way more sane, well most of them anyways.

I don't like the whole 'Feminists vs MRA's' thing though. In a way, are we not kinda fighting for the same cause? Most MRA's will agree that women deserve equal pay and the choice to have an abortion, and most Feminists will agree that men deserve equal parental rights and to be treated equally by the justice system.

If this sub just turns into an anti-feminism sub then it kinda ruins the whole point. Feminists being dumb has nothing to do with mens rights.

Looking at the front page here, I only see a handful of threads with more than 10 comments, and a lot of the posts basically seem to be in the vein of "how to argue with feminists" or "look at what these feminists are doing" while the posts on /r/feminism tend to be speeches, articles or posts about media representation. /r/mensrights from what I see has a much more aggressive standpoint and is equally against discussion.

Most have LESS then 10 comments? Wow I rarely open a thread on this sub that has less then 20 comments, I don't find a lot of threads daily but I tend to enjoy a sort of variety of discussion.

That said I would like to point out, this sub often doesn't do a lot of stuff either, I'm talking on a more 'bigger picture' scale. I often see this sub mainly as a sort of anecdotal place, for people to vent problems, frustrations, etc. and get support, or look for suggestions as to what to do and sorta know that someone has their back, very rarely do I actually see any sort of 'change' sorta being made, mainly frustrated/angry people venting their frustration/anger. Which is good in of itself, afterall it's bad to bottle up feelings and well, not really a lot of places one can go to talk about this sort of stuff.

Why would you go there in the first place? I value my brain cells too much to cause them damage by going to /r /feminism. I advise you not to go there, there's literally nothing of any value there.

It's like looking through 50 foot pile of dog shit for gold nuggets, it's not going to happen.
