So we were flying back from his summer visit with his dad. He was across the aisle, next to me but not in immediate sight. My daughter was to my left and an older man to her left. I glanced over and noticed my son with the typical man spread - triangles legs into the aisle and a bit into the space of the young woman to his right.

I leaned over and pointed out what he was doing. We’ve worked extensively on holding respect for everyone, especially women, and his immediate response was one of regret - he hadn’t realized he was doing it and we worked out a way where his knees stayed together. The young woman leaned over and thanked us both and my son apologized to her.

I realized that my daughter, who crosses her legs, was having her space invaded by the man to her left. I asked her if she was comfortable and she said no, she felt “squished”. I asked the man to her left if he could please be mindful of her space, pointing out that his body was physically in about 1/3 of hers. He glared at me, put his head phones in, and didn’t budge the rest of the trip. I ended up switching with her.

I bring this up because it’s a perfect example of the lost generation of men we’re currently dealing with. Men aren’t incapable of empathy - but a damn sure lot of them now lack it. I know many on here do not have kids, but if you are a young woman who feels like there isn’t a lot of hope, the FDS moms with sons will do our damndest to raise them correctly.
