The guy tweeted "This is progress". No, this is called enabling. They are telling all the women/girls in the world that even if you don't bring in the numbers, you will still be paid equal to your male counterpart.

The guy said "it's about being considered equal" and then chooses to ignore the fact that women's football viewership isn't equal to men's football. Sometimes I think these people have brain damage.

Equal pay for lesser productivity. That’s the feminist goal and society is providing it. The vast majority of female athletes would be unknowns and earning next to nothing if they had to equally compete with and against male athletes.

Minor league baseball players don’t earn what the majors do. Mini tour golfers earn less. We don’t give scholarships to DIV I students who play intramurals.

The only place we pay less capable athletes on an easier league as much as the top athletes on the most difficult league in in women’s sports and the only reason is because they are women. They don’t earn it in equal work accomplished and they don’t earn it in viewership.

The U.S. women’s soccer team complains about their earnings but they were beat by a team of 15 year old boys and those boys aren’t earning a fraction of what the women’s soccer players get.

Paying women equally to produce less isn’t equality. If female athletes want to earn equal pay, then they should equally compete with men.

I’m all for having easier sports leagues for women to provide opportunities, but they’re not equal. The whole reason we have separate sports for women is because they are not equal.

Tennis is the best example of this absurdity, equal pay for less work is the goal there. 3 sets for women, 5 sets for men.

Pretty much all women's sports are subsidized by their men's counterparts. Dont think finding one or two exceptions takes away from the bigger picture either. Imo only two womens sports i find almost on par with their mens counterparts are tennis and mma.

This « compensation » doesn’t empower women. I’m a woman who played women’s sports at a high level. But women’s sports don’t bring in the same revenue as male sports. The only dedicated fan base of women sports is family and friends. People looking to watch a sport at the highest level naturally gravitate towards men’s teams. It’s faster, stronger and the atmosphere is night and day. This isn’t to say women’s sports aren’t worthwhile, but this financial propping up of women’s sports isn’t founded in reality, it’s just virtue signalling.

Hello, I think you're mistaken on how footballers get paid. Most of their income comes from clubs that they play for, performance bonuses and sponsorships. ‘Equal pay’ in football means the association that they play for won't discriminate appearance wages, which is the salary that the article talks about. Men would probably still get more offers from clubs to play for, but we're talking about quality, not quantity. It's not about overall money that footballers make. Men would still get more money than women here in that regard.

As for viewership, according to many articles including one in The Guardian, viewership for women's football is increasing drastically. One female England-USA game garnered across the water, a peak audience of 11.7 million people, making it the most-watched British television broadcast of the year.

Once again, ‘equal pay’ means equal general wages by the club management.

An interesting thing is: the female is the largest spending consumer and yet they enjoy male football. Is it a poor ad campaign promoting it to young women? Or do they believe this will grow the sport as there demographic grows older.

Has not worked anywhere I know? Although, oddly, female boxing had a large audience before certain groups stepped in and made thing rough. Perhaps that because it targeted men? Just a thought.

I’ve also wondered why Doubles in Tennis do not make as much as the Single players? Is it pure numberist discrimination or just ticket sales?

If they pay the higher wages and recoup the costs in revenue, and it's naturally sustainable, then great.

If they pay the higher wages, but can't recoup the costs in revenue, then the female team will collapse. It'll either need a bailout, or it'll just go away forever.

This is on international level, not club level, players get paid by their clubs and the fees or winnings from national team games is minuscule. So it’s not like everyone’s bending backwards to make this happen. National team compensation isn’t the bread and butter that footballers rely on anyway so I’m not against national teams giving incentives to female players to represent, especially since some talented players are eligible to play for different nations if they choose so. It’s not a bad incentive to subsidise women’s pay on national team level.
This is more of a strategic sports decision than a feminist or misandrist one. Those who know how football is will get it I hope.

Well, let's be honest. I'll give an example from the USA. The USA women's soccer team is far more successful than the men's team. The USA men's team can barely qualify for any major tournament while the women's team kicks ass and wins entire championships. The only time soccer in the USA can get viewers to tune in as far as TV is when the women's team is in the finals. So in essence, if you take all that into account.... the women's team should get paid fairly. At least in the USA.

Look, its a tragedy that many young women dont have the same avenues for professional female sports careers/entertainment. Its tough to find female sports on the top of the roster of ESPN programming, and female athletes simply wont be paid as much. Simply put, objectively that sucks.

Now what feminists incorrectly state after that objective observation is that this is because men are actively keeping women down in the world of sports. This is incorrect. Unfortunately the economics and viewership doesnt quite add up to enable the same opportunities at this moment. Eventually it should, and instances like this where it seems the men are offering to help the women should be seen positively.

Its gonna take some level of change to get womens sports in a better light and acting with disdain and scoffing at it as "actually in a roundabout way an injustice on men!" is not how we should be acting as men.

Yes, there are injustices men face, but certainly not here.
