Guys love complaining about how much we care about looks, height etc. They are ugly, therefore no girl will ever want them and there's nothing they can do about it.

Obviously this is bullshit. We all know that taking care of yourself and being an interesting, loving, good person, goes a long way (also many many other things) . Of course sexual attraction needs to be there, but attraction is complex and being handsome sometimes is not necessary and it's definitely not enough.

We might think that guys just don't get this or that they don't want to get it. None of this is true: they know. I've spoke with many men about this in different contexts. In the beginning they always start saying the same things, but in the end I always notice that they reveal what their true problem is. Their real issue is that they know that personality, charm etc. are extremely important, even more than looks, but they realize that even if all of this is true, they still can't get a girlfriend. They realize that the problem is them and not the ineluctable curse of being ugly. If the true problem was actually just that, they would have no fault of their own. They would just be unlucky and they would have the rather "peaceful" mindset that there's nothing that they can do about it. Life has been unkind with them, that's it.

Admitting that all of this is false is scary for them, because it means that they could actually do something if they had the strength, the mental capacity, the will to be a better person. But they don't! This is why they feel shame. The narrative of "i'm ugly, life is unfair" is far easier to accept. It gives you permission not to fight.
