What’s the difference between someone who is just kind and a simp?

When the effort is not reciprocated.

When you're giving your best and she's meeting it at every turn - that's perfection, not simping.

When you're giving your best and she's giving the bare minimum - that's simping.

So I googled what the urban dictionary definition of what a simp is and I think it explains it pretty well “someone who does way too much for a person they like”.

There was guy who liked me and I would say he was a simp. Often guys might give a reaction to my Instagram story. But this guy would randomly go through my highlights on my page and tell me how hot I was. This was a regular occurrence and it would come out of no where. He would randomly text me showering me with affection, asking me to send him selfies.

Now someone whose nice is going to be nice maybe a tad bit nicer to you if they like you. But overall you won’t see a huge difference in how they treat you versus how they treat others because they are just a nice person so that’s how they behave. The exception to this is if you guys are dating. But say he likes me but knows I don’t reciprocate, he isn’t going to be going out of his way to shower me with affection.

The word has kinda lost meaning, I see men use it so loosely.

One time I was walking and a teen boy held a door open for me, I thanked him but as I walked away his friends gave him so much shit for being a “simp” and holding the door.

Basically, to some men, showing women basic human respect and decency is “simp” behavior. But this was never the original definition.

A kind person is also kind to people he isn't attracted to. And doesn't develop a fixation on an uninterested party to target all favor.

Being kind is you doing nice things for the sake of doing nice things.

I compliment my girls because I want to.

I hold doors for the person after me because it's polite

I'll buy my mates a round of drinks because I want to.

Simping is when people do over the top nice things for romantic or sexual gain. Especially when it goes beyond the boundaries of normal e.g. Let me give you $60 flowers on the first date.

I think a simp is someone who does over the top gestures to win the affection of someone who is clearly not interested.

But IRL it just seems to mean men that are generous and kind to women.

Kind does nice things for lots of people. Simp does nice things for people he is interested in as a potential partner or for people he is attracted to.

I think kind would be they are equally as compassionate, generous and helpful to random men as they are to random women. SIMPs are mainly that way for women.

Intent primarily determines whether someone is a simp or not. If I perform a kind act just because vs. if I perform the same kind act because I want him to notice me/be attracted to me.

The second factor is the extent of this behavior. If I constantly keep performing kind acts without reciprocity, then I'm simping.
