I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, marriage is for the kids. If you don’t have children with the potential wife, or don’t intend on having children with her right away, then there is no reason to get married. Even then you would be wise to tread carefully. In today’s world women treat marriage like a 401k they can tap whenever they need to.

We aren’t given the age of the people involved, but if the women is over 30 then maybe this response is even more justified. Women want the wedding but not the marriage. If more women were marriage quality then we could have a different discussion. Most don’t bring anything to the table except a used up body and a longing for certain men of the past.

In case anyone needs another reminder, don’t marry single mothers.

Reading between the lines I would guess the guy was much more attractive than her (but she probably didn’t realise it because women over value themselves)

He was the sort of guy she would envision standing next to her in wedding pictures. Him laughing in her face is a pretty brutal way of him telling her she is not on his level (in terms of for a relationship). And it is reinforced by him pretty much saying that “just looking for some fun” - the unsaid part is “with you”

Just like how many women will apps will say something like - “I realised I’m not interesting dating right now”. Once again the “you” is the unsaid missing word

I wanted to get married, from 18 all the way to about 42. Through my 20s, I had very little money, even though I was pretty fit (and I am fairly tall), so I struck out a lot.

But once I had that STEM PhD, and the nice salary that came with it, boy! The women came from everywhere. I just had a few requirements for the prospective wife and mother of my kids.

First, she had to be young enough for healthy offspring, say 32 or so, max.

She had to have no kids of her own, already.

No signs of serious mental illness.

Not a spendthrift, no massive credit card debt from shoes and purses or bullshit. Or massive student loan debt for useless degrees.

Reasonable healthy, to include obesity.

And that was it. Really only those things that she would need to be a good wife and mom.

Mind, for some time women were throwing themselves at me, 6 foot 1, still fairly trim, healthy, and earning something like $190k, by todays dollars. I had a Mercedes, a house in a fashionable neighborhood, and wore high quality clothes. Truth be told, I did get a lot of action, but was very careful with my DNA.

Now, guess how many women who were interested in me met my very reasonable and minimal standards? Zero. Out of well over 200 that had seen daybreak in my bed. Every single one was already a single mom, or had massive debt, or I found out was heavily medicated for mental illness. (The fatties didn't even get that far). Every. Single. One.

What happened? Well, I turned 42. I started dating women more my own age, resolved to save all I could, then early retired at 50. Bought a much cheaper house in a quieter, more out of the way area, traded my Mercedes for a reliable Toyota, and now wear jeans from Costco.

I travel the world (at least until Covid hit), and really enjoy myself, and learned to be a really good cook. I still date a lot, but no longer fool myself that marriageable women exist.

So, there were some "good" women, back when I was under 30, but they weren't interested in fighting the good fight by my side. Eventually I won that fight on my own, and then those that wanted me, wanted me to redeem their losses. No thanks.

Two things here. Dating app...which it looks like a T where it was scribbled out so I assume Tinder. Why in the hell are you expecting MARRIAGE on a HOOKUP app?

Second, courting is a great thing. You shouldn't aimlessly date around and "see what happens". Keep that body count as low as possible and find a suitable husband. But we all know thats not what really happened. You're on a hookup app, got some strange for some years, and finally in your epiphany phase you decided to """settle down""". Used up, been around the whole block, and you want your good beta bux provider. I can guarantee you that woman is not a virgin.

Fact is, this isn't the 1950s anymore. Courting doesn't exist anymore(Negligible). Women holding onto their innocence doesn't exist anymore. You're expecting a one way transaction here. What does that man get from this? What are YOU bringing to the marriage?

If she’s one of the ones with a massive friend zone and double digit (at minimum) body count by 22 who is suddenly being “serious”, she deserves the mockery.

If she’s one of the good ones with a low body count and not looking for an unequal partnership (where she’s the primary beneficiary), she should blame the women who are ruining things for her, not the man for being honest. In fact, while not exactly the nicest way of communicating it, he did her a favor. Instead of stringing her along for some good times until she started trying to get serious, he spared her the alpha widowing.
