I find this article to be a very extreme use of language to describe young boys as monsters. It's so extreme in its exaggerations. Language like this just makes it impossible for society to have any empathy for male children at all.

So I'm going to say something that might be mildly controversial after reading the comments.

The anxiety this person describes might be real, but this anxiety is misplaced and is a complete result of the fearmongering the media has been doing towards men.

"All men are rapists", "all men are potential assaulter", etc., that rhetoric WILL create an undercurrent of paranoia within women in general.

By extension, this creates a very, very, very harmful and hostile environment towards young men who will feel all the more alienated - which I believe we can all agree, is already a very omnipresent feeling in a society that vilifies them at every opportunity possible - thus leading to self-fulfilling prophecies of "young men will be violent and lash out".

I'm not going to blame young men ; Society WANTS them to lash out and does everything in it's power to ensure they have no available resources fit to help them and their needs. They're not allowed to have their own spaces where they can talk it out and, anytime one such space is created, it is attacked until it gets demolished or crumbles under the weight of the government. Or it gets vilified and becomes a slur.

TLDR; I believe that the Media's and Government's rhetoric that all men are X and Y is directly contributing to a general paranoia within young women and women in general that directly harms young men by vilifying and isolating them within a bubble where there is no escape, thus leading to these young men lashing out in despair.

I get similar stories in my news feed with a byline of "as told to Sally Druthers" and so forth... they're just fabrications so the writer can stir up clicks with gutter "journalism".

I stronly dislike when someone view teenage boys as worse than teenage girls or generally see men as worse than women. There is much anti-social behaviour (such as bullying, alcohol drinking, smoking, drug use, excessive swearing, or "dirty" jokes) among teenagers, but I don't think boys are worse than girls. Girls do bad things too and they tell "dirty" jokes too.

Same in colleges - I don't think young men in colleges are worse than women.

I believe this article is very telling of the current environment, and out and out manipulation of young women and young men, for the purpose to repaint young boys as predators.

It's an 'anonymous' article written by a 16 year old girl about her now finally feeling safe to study, now that she has been saved from the 'rape culture' of her School, by joining an all girls college.

Even the description of a normal mixed sex school, of having a culture of rape, is complete insanity. Imagine if your child was actually at a school that had a culture of rape. NO ONE would send their daughters to school at all, if they were being raped constantly just going to English lessons.

To paint schools like this will create ungodly amounts of hysteria. It will cause so much damage to any ability society has left to have any empathy for male children at all.

What's left of that empathy anyway.

It's an incredibly paranoid and extreme article. The language is so exaggerated and extreme, and gives a complete false impression. It's makes out that this young woman had to go to an all female college to be safe from being raped. How could that not be the most extreme exaggeration possible, when what really was going on was the normal development of adolescent humans learning how to interact with other and human sexual dynamics through play. Just like all adolescent animals learn. Through a process of exploring, born from millions of years of evolved and refined instinct.

To paint this normal process as as a school full of rape gangs in modern Britain, is pure insanity, and pure out and out deception.

I remember when the guardian used to publish brave, well written, researched articles. Just have a look at the “men” section (it’s well hidden) to see everything you need to know about the guardians attitude.

There’s real problems, real issues and yes sexism is part of that, but we need real conversation not the same opinion being pumped out over and over.

A few days ago I pointed out the similarities with folk tales two centuries ago, with people believing that ghosts and witches were omnipresent and always having ample ‘proof’ for that.

The real culprit is the society that creates an environment where boys think they have to behave like this. I don't think it's the boys at fault at all and it's definitely not all of them that choose to behave in that way. But the problem is, its the loud and naughty ones that do this, and other boys follow suit. It feels like the same conditioning that makes girls struggle to speak out about this behaviour and instead accept it. As for the guardian article, as a girl who went to a mixed girl school in the UK, this sounds very similar to my experience. I was cornered on the stairs by boys, they would randomly touch me, female teachers were locked in storage cupboards, girls bras got pinged constantly, I had a chair thrown at me by a boy, if a girl sent a nude the whole school would see it. It was a very difficult environment to be a girl and these experiences definitely fucked up my confidence. I don't think these kind of articles help, but I also don't know what will. My feeling is, we need to invite boys in instead of calling them out which often just leads to more defensive and aggressive behaviour. They need the space to be themselves, but how do you do this if they are constantly trying to one up each other to show they are more alpha than each other? I don't know if any of you can give any insight but I would love some of your thoughts on this if you have any.

I feel like a lot of this is sad for the boys room young boys are sexualised a lot in terms of people just expecting them to be obsessed with sex. It paints the idea in their head that they're only "man enough" if they can "get" sex, like it's an achievement and I feel like it's one of the reasons boys seem to make a lot of sexual comments
