See the history. All revolutions were fought by men to overthrow authoritarian rule. Feminism exists in the safest countries in the world.

[–]Amazing-Bit6140 76 points77 points78 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And at mens expense

Maybe someday they’ll try to equalize the costs instead of just the benefits, but I won’t hold my breath.

[–]Appropriate-Skirt-32 17 points18 points19 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

feminism is a luxury only a rich society can afford it's a liability

look when it appeared it was in 19 century western countries where there was massive increase in production aka industrial revolution it created surplus of goods

if hard times come back I can assure you all feminism will disappear faster than hooker after you pay

[+]KitsBeach -6 points-5 points-4 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What do you mean it's a liability? I'm all for women fighting for their right to not have to sacrifice their body for someone else's life which is a right they don't have in the US

[–]Disastrous-Pace-19291 points 3 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Ah yes, the abortion thing. Well, abortion rights were passed to the states and many states still allow it. That's without even getting into lack of post conception reproductive rights for men.

Some people were pushing for late term abortions and that I think, is the straw that broke the camel's back. Should have quit while they were ahead.

You know what they tell men who don't want to be a parent, keep it in your pants. Well, in some states I guess women now have to follow similar advice. They aren't happy about getting THAT kind of male privilege.

[–]KitsBeach 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm not looking at it as a schadenfreude situation, I'm just looking at it as a human rights thing. If the government can't force you or I to donate some bone marrow or a piece of liver to save a life, why can they force someone to donate their body for 9 months, sometimes permanently, to save a life or an almost-life? Bodily autonomy is a human right.

[–]Disastrous-Pace-19291 points 3 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Bodily autonomy SHOULD be a human right but since no one gives a shit about men being forced into parenthood that comes with 2 decades of extra labor to pay for it, I am not getting on the 'save abortion' train.

If you think a woman being forced to carry a baby for 9 months is wrong, you should also realize that forcing a man to use his body for 2 decades to pay for a child he didn't want is also wrong.

When men gain the right to legally opt out of parenthood, then I'll care about abortion rights again. Women still have Safe Havens so don't cry too much for them.

[–]KitsBeach 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm hearing "I don't care about anyone else's problems until people care about the issue I'm passionate about" which is a problem if everyone has that attitude as I'm sure you can agree with because it's simple logic. I think its time we start looking out for each other and extend our interests beyond just us. It's possible to agree that forced paternity AND forced child bearing are both issues that need to be addressed.

My original point was asking for clarification on the stance that feminism is a liability, I still haven't got a single coherent response to that. All I'm hearing is "well men have to deal with (other issue) and so I don't care about other stuff".

[–]DOBLU 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But the problem is that the West whom supports feminism has lied about Iran. Most Iranians in Iran are in support of the the current government.

[–]Gladiators10 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One of the post powerful and true comments I've read.

[+]GalacticDolphin101 -38 points-37 points-36 points 3 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

I’ve seen a few posts like this on this sub before and it genuinely disgusts me. You guys are so far up your own asses you don’t realize that this issue goes beyond man vs woman.

In the exact same way that “feminists only exist in the safest countries,” you reactionary MRAs also only exist in the safest countries. You’re no better than the radfems you so desperately hate.

In Iran men and women are fighting for a common cause, and they stand with love and unity with each other. You wouldn’t know that living in a safe country though, would you? You’ve never known oppression in the way that our people have, so you will never know the bond these people have. A bond that transcends gender and sexuality and everything else. (and no, not being able to get laid doesn’t count as oppression)

[–]Appropriate-Skirt-32 21 points22 points23 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

regardless of the situation adult females are always going to be the most protected and provided for group of society even in gaza majority of the vicitms of war have been adult male and adult women have had lowest amount of casualties

they live 15% longer consume more of tax money than pay work easier jobs fewer hours and years and top of that retire earlier and control 85% of consumer spending in short they are parasites

women are truly the prviliged leasure class of society

no matter what women are always going to be just fine

[+]GalacticDolphin101 -20 points-19 points-18 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

oh my fucking god, i think i just lost brain cells reading this. You seriously need another hobby besides your petty hatred of women

“regardless of the situation”? do you realize the extent of oppression women face in Iran? how they can’t do anything like travel or work without a males permission? how they’re harassed and arrested for dressing how they want? how they can be forced into marriage by their fathers?

actually who am I kidding, you’d probably love to live in a country like that. But Iranian youth don’t think like you. They don’t make petty tribalism distinctions between men and women, they fight for the same thing which is freedom for everyone.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Feminists sacrifice themselves for the cause - you go girls. You can do it, men bad.

Men sacrifice themselves for the cause - you go girls. You can do it, men bad.

Facts get pointed out. "It goes beyond men and women"

People here fully support women rights, as you could ser men are ready to die for it. What upsets us is that they not only do not get credit, PR in western media tries to show Iran as tyranny of men.

Of course since you are not biased asshole now you know and will inform your feminist friends about sacrifice of Iranian men right ?

[+]GalacticDolphin101 -4 points-3 points-2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No i totally understand that, and it’s a valid concern for sure. It started out as a protest for women’s rights, but it spiraled much further and now it’s about a full scale revolution and regime change. A lot of the perception around it is still that it’s only about women’s rights though, and while that’s certainly part of it, it misses the full picture. Yes, that’s a valid criticism and I have my problems with it too. But isn’t that what people here are doing? making it seem like it’s only for the women’s freedom and the men are just fighting for them?

What I find frustrating, especially on this sub, is reactionaries using this situation to spread their sexist agenda that is not helpful to anyone in Iran. I mean the poster above my comment literally called women “parasites.” They mischaracterize what’s going on to get their own personal dubs on the internet, like saying “oh look at the BRAVE MEN fighting and dying for these UNGRATEFUL PARASITIC WOMEN, men are so oppressed in the world right?” It’s so disingenuous, it’s not like they’re at all concerned about the safety or freedom of the men in Iran, they’re just using their struggle for brownie points.

The truth is both men and women are fighting for freedom alongside each other. There are two slogans in Iran, and it showcases how beautifully men and women support each other. In the protests, the men chant “woman, life, freedom,” which you may have heard, and the women chant “man, country, prosperity.”

Like I keep saying, this is not about men and women anymore, it’s about a people united against a fascist dictatorship. People in Iran do not care about not getting “credit” for it like people on this sub are.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Mkay you just regurgitate the same message. Ok I understand your points are very valid now back to main subject...

Not going to comment to comment the agenda, but I will show you some root causes that are behind some men that you use as examples to further it.

You know why those few men are hateful ? When we engage in support of women rights this support is taken for granted. Its a demand.

When the same men support mens rights there is no one to stand with them. They are branded as incels, radicals, right wingers. Feminists are hated here because they stand against men asking for equality.

Learn some humility and empathy bro. Behind every hateful person there is a story of disappointed idealist. You might become one when world turns and people shit on your ideals.

[+]NoParticularMotel -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nah, only the weak minded do that. Yall are just pathetic. Devoid of all reason and intelligence probably. The message im hearing from you dumbfucks is that all womens struggles are fought by men, and women face no real oppression.

[+]Zestyclose-Ad-3168 -4 points-3 points-2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. Most of the time posts like this are simply using these situations as political and sexist props. It’s actually more disrespectful than they think women in the US are being.

[+]PostExotic5054 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It being socially acceptable to stone girls to death is not "just fine." Living in terror of your own relatives is not "just fine." Not being able to make choices for your own self is not "just fine." Living under an oppressive regime is not "just fine." Lack of freedom is not "just fine".

Apparently, what is "just fine" is your hateful ass living in whatever country that allows you to speak freely. That is fine indeed. Don't mistake your reality for everyone elses.

[–]Your_Agenda_Sucks 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No country is safe unless men make it safe FOR you.

The problem we perceive is feminists hijacking every event in the world. You did it with black lives matter, and you're doing it with Iran. The Iranians themselves are pissed off at you turning their legitimate revolution into a gendered issue.

I challenge you to go a day without making yourself the subject of every conversation.

[+]GalacticDolphin101 -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

wait hold on are you talking to me or another commenter? i’m literally Iranian, and i’m saying it’s not a gendered issue. I’m saying it goes beyond gender, and it’s the MRAs that are turning it into a gendered issue by saying “men are fighting for women but not getting credit for it”

[+]NoParticularMotel 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol! Still downvoted too. Must be because youre skewing the REAL issues in Iran with your western ideals.

Fr, though. Would you not say that although there is an overall revolution taking place, that feminism isnt part of that?

Asking your perspective.

[–]odysseytree 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In Iran men and women are fighting for a common cause

Hijab issue is not common, it affects women and men are fighting for them. Historically men always fought against authoritarianism to liberate men and women. Feminism borns when the country becomes safe and then they start indoctrinating girls about that men oppressed women.

You think america is safe for black people? Especially those in inner cities?

[–]adalyn7992 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Safer now than ever before. Not safe enough.

[+]Candid-Occasion-7968 -8 points-7 points-6 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're white though, and statistically most likely to live in a gated or middle class community, how can you know this?

[–]adalyn7992 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I know because of statistics. And what’s with the assumption about my ethnicity?

Your comment about skin color is…very racist. May want to examine your inherent bias.

[–]Candid-Occasion-7968 -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because it's truth. You would never know anything about how safe it is in black community, until you've lived there. There are no statistics that tell you black people especially in inner cities are safer than before. Stop it. And there was nothing racist about i said, quit it. You won't pull the reverse uno shit with me. The black community is like a third world country compared to how whites are living in america. Even the poor whites live better than majority of black americans. A poor white person has more opportunies than a poor black and that's a fact.

[+]GalacticDolphin101 -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

LMFAO that’s what you got from my comment?

“people in Iran suffer more than people in the imperial core of the US”

“so you’re saying that black people don’t face problems??? how could you??”

[–]Namedoesntmatter89 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Remember, this is a support group as much as it is a place for people to discuss ideas.

You will get downvoted into oblivion for trying to point out common cause, and for some reason, these people dont recognize how important it is for society at large, and especially, for our children, for all of us to seek for common ground, rather than divisiveness.

These reactionaries, in my opinion, take away from the ability to fight for actual male rights b/c they make everyone here look like selfish losers.

[+]PostExotic5054 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I actually love this sub, some of the time. I'm not going to lie, femmes such as myself can get into an extremely negative headspace. Hundreds of years of oppression can do that to you. But, many of you are actually working towards equality. You bring up incredibly relevant points and, I fucking salute you. Thank you so much for the perspective and exposure.

[–]Namedoesntmatter89 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men and women have both been opressed by nature. Since forever. Our default is suffering.

Youre not alone. True peak human is recognizing that and just trying to be better, regardless of gender.

Hope youre doing well.

[+]GalacticDolphin101 -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

ironic, isn’t it? how they’re pissed at feminists in “safe” countries, meanwhile they’re out blabbering sexist rhetoric in said safe country and making blanket statements about things they know nothing of

[+]NoParticularMotel 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Seems the biggest issue with most guys in this sub is being an incel and the "discrimination" that comes with that. First world problems for sure. They know nothing of true oppression. The other mens sub is much less delusional.

[+]NoParticularMotel -18 points-17 points-16 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Um, are you stupid? A feminist movement is happening right now in Iran.

[–]odysseytree 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Backed by men which are 80% in count in that movement. So much about "men oppress us", no, men liberate you from authoritarianism and feminism later backstabs these men once peace is declared.

[+]NoParticularMotel 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Umm, yeah thats stupidly anecdotal too, but I meant the part about it occurring in the safest parts of the world🤦‍♀️. You dense

[–]The_Banana_Monk 70 points71 points72 points 3 years ago (35 children) | Copy Link

The few Iranian comments I see on reddit that comment on posts like these are very confused and upset why this is being pushed as a gendered issue when it's the youth vs a fascist regime.

[–][deleted] 58 points59 points60 points 3 years ago* (18 children) | Copy Link

Yep. Here I am an Iranian man ran into these post while I was looking around reddit to see how protest news are getting out there and this post made my blood boil. I know I'm gonna get downvoted on this sub which is very obviously sexist, but I have to say what's in my heart here.

First off, Iran is a country where women are actually oppressed. This isn't your western feminism complaining about air conditioning in workplace. This is a place where women can't choose their clothing, their inheritance is half, they can be forced into marriage, they can't even travel by themselves without the consent of their father or husband... The list goes on.

Iranian men are proud to stand by them and fight for their rights because men know as long as this regime is oppressing women like this, it can oppress everyone else by extension.

The current protest movement (or revolution at this point) isn't just for women's rights, it's for EVERYTHING. We're pushing for regime change, everything from economy, social laws, foreign affairs.... All the policies of islamic republic are wrong and it should all change. Women's rights is just a part of it.

Currently atmosphere in Iran is pure unity and love between men and women, holding eachother's hands and fighting for eachother. Unlike the feminism in the west that excludes and alienates men, Current feminism in Iran is including men, telling us that we're all being oppressed together and we have to fight together. I haven't seen a single post or comment like this from other Iranians trying to make it a gendered issue as you mentioned. And I've seen so many posts from women telling men how brave they are and how grateful they are to be supported like this by men. If OP posted this in r/newiran, Iranian guys will tear you apart and tell you that they're proud to stand up for the women of their country. It's an incredible and historical thing we're witnessing here. I think Iranians are getting feminism right.

[–]The_Banana_Monk 17 points18 points19 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The posts I refer to that make this a woman's issue are mostly in feminist subs like 2 X Chromosomes and Witches vs Patriarchy. I sincerely hope the young people of Iran and their children will have a bright future.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah those subs are obviously focused on the feminism aspects of the revolution because of their subject, but the movement is more than just women's rights. OP and the couple of comments on top are making it look like this revolution is only for women but the reality is the men who are participating are fighting for themselves as well. Under Islamic republic everyone is oppressed.

[–]swejap 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

OP and the couple of comments on top are making it look like this revolution is only for women...

Nah, they don't. The only thing they actually say is that men contribute a lot to this revolution. Which you in a confused way yourself are saying when you say it goes beyond being a gendered issue?

[–]The_Banana_Monk 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Just westerners using your tragedies to support their arguments and opinions.

I'm not criticizing Iranian men or women in this post. 8 respect and support your fight for freedom.

My point is against the western Narative around it which turn it in a gender issue, when there is much more on the table.

I'm sorry if it rubbed you the wrong way

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your post is fine and you're right about how western media is representing the protests. What really rubbed me the wrong way was the top comment "4 out of 5 the risk, none of the reward". That's such a piece of bullshit. If this protests win men and women everyone will get the reward. Like I said, everyone is being oppressed in Iran in different ways.

[–]Conely 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am happy you haven't been down voted. there really is a hefty portion of sexism in this subreddit, and it all needs to be confronted to retain the credibility of what men have for support. it gives me hope that this info isn't rejected here, and that there is solidarity for human rights across gendered issues.

[–]Lupus_Noir 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. From what I can gather, the protests in Iran aren't a gendered issue, due to the fact that if one half of the population can be oppressed, so can the other. I also think some people here are taking it to the extreme, by falling into the trappings of tribalism, and seeing only what the men are going through.

On the other hand though, there is a grain of justified sentiment there. Western media can be quick to blame men for nearly everything, from global warming to breathing the wrong way, and it is definitely going to find a way to take attention from the real isssues in Iran, and somehow turn it into man bashing. But I do think that some of of the commenters here are taking it to the opposite extreme.

What is the gender of the majority of people who get executed in Iran?

🤔

What is the gender of the majority of people in prison in Iran?

🤔

Also, on another note, what country is statistically more likely to put a woman in prison, USA or Iran?

https://www.prisonstudies.org/country/united-states-america

https://worldcoalition.org/2021/05/05/at-least-267-people-executed-in-iran-in-2020-despite-covid-19-pandemic/

🤔

And what is the most oppressed gender again?

🤔

Maybe you could consider the point of view of people living in a post-feminist world. Consider that feminism is a cancer even if it starts innocent enough and some of us know that firsthand.

Just something to think about. Slippery slopes are not always fallacies.

You mean that sub of a small group of people who hate the west so much the just do anything they can to justify and deny the regime's crimes against Iranian people? That sub is the farthest thing from being authentic.

Oh and if you think I'm diaspora you're fucking dead wrong. You're just lying to yourself because your little brains can't comprehend how Iranian people are rejecting Islamic republic and Islam in general. When we take back control of our country you'll believe it.

[–]DOBLU -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Lol what does the size of the subreddit have anything to do with the truth? Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's correct, I thought this sub is smart enough to realize that.

And I've seen Iranians with ny own eyes protesting against the riots.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago* (9 children) | Copy Link

Oh you mean the regime gathering their supporters, military people and government workers for propaganda purposes and then bringing their cameramen to film it. It's so funny to me how you are so easily influenced by their propaganda, but then say that the protestors and western media are the liers.

If the regime dares to just stop killing and shutting down protestors even for one day, the numbers of protestors on the streets will be thousands of times bigger the regime supporters. Why do you think the regime is cracking down so mercilessly? Because they know if they don't, number of protestors will be overwhelming. It's hilarious how the regime is saying the protestors are just a low percentage of the population, but then kills them with straight live rounds to stop them. Anyone walking among the population in Iran knows the majority is against the regime and the only thing stopping a big number of them from participating so far is fear of getting killed. So stop lying to yourselves.

I know the west has had their share of crimes against humanity. But that's no reason to support tyrants like Islamic republic and Putin who are killing people on daily basis. Please wake up

[–]DOBLU -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Lol what merciless killing? The 15000 people who are going to be executed? That was proven to be fake. The only people being killed are those who commit very violent crimes like burning building and killing other people.

I love how you tell me to wake up but what you're preaching is already wrong. The arrogance.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

No I'm not talking about the executions, I'm talking about the 313 people who've been killed so far with bullets and batons. You're literally commenting under the post that is about those who are killed. Evidence of their deaths is all over internet. Teenager girls and boys who didn't commit any crimes or even dangerous acts of rioting. Children as young as 10 been shot by live rounds. It's insane how you're ignoring all these.

[–]DOBLU 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I highly doubt those killed were innocent and did not do anything. I highly doubt a child was killed purposefully.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yeah of course you doubt it. That's what blindness and being stuck in an Ideology like Islamic Regime looks like. Just denial, denial and denial until downfall. That's how all authoritarian regimes work.

Now go back to your pathetic small little echo chamber subreddit and support child murderers.

[–]DOBLU 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Lol you know nothing about me. I had a point in time where I was skeptical about Iran but after research and gaining foresight by the will of God alhamdullah I am now supportive of Iran.

Saying “none of the reward” means you haven’t understood these protests.

This is not a personal criticism towards you, it’s just more complex than what is covered in the western media.

The protests go way deeper than a women’s rights issue.

Edit: just covered more info in my other comment in this thread.

Edit 2: you can keep downvoting me all you want. I’m an Iranian man and I’ve been following these protests minute by minute for the past 66 days (and the past couple of decades). The point is, it’s just not true that there will be ‘no reward’ for the men if these protests are successful. These aren’t women’s protests, they are for everyone. Men, women, old, young, everyone. Yes the women will benefit more as a result because they are oppressed more strongly, but everyone will benefit from the dictatorship’s destruction.

There’s a very unequal amount of dying going on, which is hardly advancing gender equality

We have not had a human rights issue in the West for a long time that in any way rivals what is currently happening in Iran. Can’t compare.

The men that are fighting alongside women over there are absolutely incredible human beings. They are unbelievably brave and selfless. Men and women fighting in Iran right now in these protests deserve to go down in history as a true example of solidarity and bravery.

Let’s not water down their suffering and courageous acts with talk of the West.

Lol total non sequitur. Western women have always been in favour of male only conscription, be it today or 100 years ago. They use men for their purpose then take all the credit and blame all men. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

Men and women fighting in Iran right now in these protests deserve to go down in history as a true example of solidarity and bravery.

What solidarity? talk about solidarity when we have equal number of women arrested.

It is basically bunch of "brave" women making use of idiots only to take all the credit in the end.

[–]ebony-mori 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it may be worth you going through the comments of this sub, and reading the one posted by an Iranian man regarding the protests.

To call the women over there fighting for the right to not be raped, tortured and murdered for not wearing an article of clothing “”brave” parasites” is truly disgusting, as is reducing the incredibly selfish and courageous acts of the male protestors as idiots.

I have no idea if you are a troll or not, but good god. Take off your western, hateful lens and realise that there is an entire world outside your bubble.

How are women fighting if 90% of arrested and deaths are men? Either women are not fighting or police is only going after male protesters.

I never objected to women protesting for whatever reason, I object to use of men as meat shields for their protests and then claiming they did all on their own.

Men should only help women as much as they help men, which is close to nothing.

as is reducing the incredibly selfish and courageous acts of the male protestors as idiots.

Yes they are idiots, they are literally dying, for what, to see headlines like "10000 died including 1 women".

Feminism is a cancer no matter why it starts.

[–]ebony-mori 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Men and women fighting for the rights of women can be easily considered as first wave feminism. That is not cancer. Women deserve rights. People fighting for this cause are good, selfless and brave people.

Stop viewing the entire world with a Western lens. You may not like third and fourth wave feminism, and you have every right to. But the actual true definition of feminism is a good thing and something worth fighting for.

I'm sure the people protesting in Iran, man or woman, would be grateful to have a society like ours in the West.

[–]Disastrous-Pace-19291 points 3 years ago [recovered] (12 children) | Copy Link

I am just saying, look at the end game of feminism here in the west. It’s ugly.

[–]ebony-mori 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

It isn't ugly. Both genders have their own problems that need to be worked on and changed. You cannot compare the issues though with that of Iran, or act like we have it any worse here than they have there.

[–]Nickolas_Bowen 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What % of the protestors are men to begin with?

[–]WasThatIt 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

These are not just “feminist” protests (at least not anymore). The “feminism” / women’s rights are still symbolically on the face of this, but these protests go way deeper.

The best way I can summarise it is that in addition to the women’s issues (which are a huge deal) the protests are also about 43 years of Islamic theocracy, dictatorship, corruption, brainwash, governmental paternalism, bigotry, poverty, economic disasters, mismanagement and negligence, nepotism, oppression, lack of free speech, political imprisonment and executions, censorship, and more.

Mahsa’s death and the compulsory hijab was a catalyst but not the actual reason. This is a protest for men, women, boys, girls and all the people of Iran who want their country and culture back from the hands of barbaric and extremist invaders.

I say this not to trivialize the stats that you shared. Of course the imbalance is concerning as a mens rights issue, but it isn’t any different to casualties in any other protest or war. I think you were making the point here that this being a “feminist” protest is what makes it different and therefore makes those figures particularly salient and concerning, so I just wanted to point out that feminism is just the tip of the iceberg in these protests.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My point is exposing the western woke narrative on a process which is obviously more than a "feminist movement "

[–]WasThatIt 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Cool. Then we are making the same point :) I just thought more clarification was needed.

[–]themolestedsliver 18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah this doesn't surprise me and yet what do femnists do? They imply, suggest and blatantly misinform the public this is a female lead protest.

The first images of the protest show the men who bore the scars and wounds from protecting women but they don't count I guess?

I'm not going to pretend women live great lives in the middle east but I'm sick of pretending most men are doing just fine either.

[–]Rohan0785 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]happyrolls 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same BS with the women's suffrage movement in the UK. Few men were allowed to vote when the women started making noise, only the rich could. Then some rich women were pushing to have the same rights as their rich husbands - but only for the rich. Then WWI happened and they were forced to give the surviving men returning from the brutal war the right to vote, women just piggybacked on the blood spilled by them.

[–]grahamcookiefart 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely hate this narrative of female oppression in Muslim fascist regimes. I was 1000% grateful to be a woman in the fascist Middle Eastern country I grew up in because the dictators there oppress humans altogether. Men have it worse, objectively. I'm grateful I don't have to be drafted, I don't get beaten up brutally by the police, I'm not incarcerated longer, I'm not expected to carry the burdens of my entire family tree on my shoulder. I would definitely prefer to be a woman in a country like Iran than a man.

[+]The_Banana_Monk -10 points-9 points-8 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

[–]grahamcookiefart 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who told you they are seen as less? They aren't. We're seen to have different duties/roles.

[–]Quixotic-Recondite 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely not. In fact women are favoured in Islam. We view mothers as sacred and men have the responsibility to take care of their female family members. For example, there is a famous hadeeth (narration) of the Prophet that says heaven is under the feet of the mothers. In another hadeeth he is asked by someone that carried his mother on his back to pilgrimage if he has repaid her for her favours to him, and he told him that he hasn't even paid back one day's worth of her carrying him in her womb. Same thing for daughters and wives. We are obligated to protect them, care and pay for them, raise the daughters well and make sure the man they marry is good and just. I can go on for 5 hours on ways men get the short end of the stick in Islam (we don't hate it though since we view it as God's commands). A common saying among muslims is that (western) people keep asking about women's rights in islam while men are the ones being oppressd.

[–]Shadow1787 -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can women date or marry who they want to in Islam? Can women not wear niqabs or hijabs? Can they show show legs without getting killed? Can they leave their husbands when they want? Can they say the husband raped her without getting killed? Can they drive? Can they own property? Can they vote? Women are not even close to favorited in Islam when honor killings still happen.

[–]Quixotic-Recondite 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nobody can date whoever they want in islam. Yes nobody is forced to wear a niqab/hijab. Yes they can show their legs to a certain extent (not completely naked). They can't leave their husbanda when they want neither can the husbands leave them. If the husband raped them the husband will get killed. Yes they can drive and own property and have jobs of their own.
