This chemical has been causing women to be born with PCOS for DECADES (and passing it down through genetics because it’s a mutation) causing women to grow literal cysts in their body that sometimes have to be surgically removed and causes hormone deregulation and is correlated with type 2 diabetes, but god fucking forbid men’s sperm count is a little low and the world finally pays attention. I’m glad that the chemical is getting attention and will (hopefully) be banned from large scale manufacturing internationally, but the reason why irks the fuck out of me.

ETA: It also bothers me that it only mentions PCOS because it causes fertility issues and doesn’t mention all of the other aspects of it that make women’s lives worse

Of course it becomes a panic when men are affected. They threw an epic man child tantrum when the male birth control (which the man folks begged for when crying for EqUaLiTy) contained one side effect; headaches. And women's birth control comes with a whole host of life threatening issues. Glad my HVM husband offered to get a vasectomy.

You know what I also noticed? In one of the articles about her findings, they talked on and on and on about men and their sperm and their penises. And then there was ONE quote: "In some areas, women in their 20s are only as fertile as their grandmothers were at 35"

No, of course not, because we are still second class citizens and our health comes last. Society will shame us about not being good incubators but they won't fucking do anything to help us until the same causes start negatively affecting men. They've been talking casually about the average age of puberty decreasing in girls because of contiminants for literal decades but that was supposedly not a big deal?

Hopefully this at least means phtalates will be banned soon but I wouldn't get our hopes up.
