"Strength has no gender"

dresses women up in stereotypical male clothing to make them appear "strong"

you played yourself Brawny

[–]sergantfloop 27 points28 points29 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Clothing that’s based off that “lumberjack look” how many strong female lumberjacks do you know?

[–]Childpornaddict73 16 points17 points18 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do the ones that hold the signs count?

[–]lumberjackadam 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Fun fact: women in that profession are properly referred to as 'Lumberjills'.

[–]akmvb21 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Huh, makes sense. That's a cool fun fact, thanks!

[–]WaffleBoi014 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Maybe it's because those are the clothes that the Brawny mascot wears?

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71kdKgXV0HL._SX425_.jpg

[–]DuneBug 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And why does the mascot wear those clothes young Padawan?

Is it because that is the stereotypical outfit of a lumberjack? A labor intensive and strength intensive profession? Or is it because flannel looks good on everyone?

[–]WaffleBoi014 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah it's a labor intensive profession. What, you think that a labor intensive job is stereotypical for the male gender? If so, what exactly is the problem with the image? It seems to me that this marketing campaign is trying to break that stereotype

[–]DuneBug 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Pick a labor intensive job, and it's significantly more likely a male is doing it.

Read the op you replied to.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Considering that when I saw this the last time I was shopping for paper towels I deliberately picked another brand, I'd say so. I can't be the only one, either.

[–]akmvb21 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, but there's probably just as many people that do the opposite.

[–]BroSiLLLYBro 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

thats pretty pathetic ngl

[–]srsh10392 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's just woodcutter attire.

[–]Spacecowboy8888 310 points311 points312 points 6 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

We did it boys. Sexism is no more

[–][deleted] 187 points188 points189 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Well, maybe not. This image makes it seem like according to bounty it takes three women to replace one man.

[–]PsychoPhilosopher 56 points57 points58 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Seems to make sense. You've got one to go to the jobsite, one in HR and one to take notes at the meeting. Oh, and the man is now an 'aboreal consultant' and still actually does the work!

Or so the joke goes anyway.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The bounty image has been around for a long time, and when i first saw it that 'three women to replace one man' joke was attached. I'm not the only one, at least three other people posted the same joke in this thread lol.

[–]boxsterguy 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Hey, now. Bounty and Brawny are two different paper towel brands. I won't buy Brawny because of this. Then again, Bounty is owned by P&G, who also owns Gillette, which we also need to boycott for their stupid ad earlier in the year.

I guess it's time to switch to Kirkland brand paper towels.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

oshit your right, I put the wrong brand name. Personally i just buy the cheapest ones at walmart that tear off in half sheets, only feature I'll pay extra for in a paper towel. So, to be fair, I was never gonna buy bounty or brawny anyway.

[–]boxsterguy 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There is a definite quality difference (feel, absorption ability) between the Costco brand and Bounty (I buy in bulk and Costco in my area doesn't carry Brawny so I don't have a comparison), so I've been buying Bounty. P&G is so large that it's really difficult to stay away from them, but I'm doing a solid job of not buying from their Gillette brand.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We had better be careful discussing cleaning supplies like this - someone may come along and toxicly enforce masculine norms on us. :P

[–]Spacecowboy8888 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well that's just to make up for the "gender pay gap" so they can make the same amount. /s

[–]Siganid 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Easier to just rebrand it as "Scrawny" at that point.

[–]HNutz 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

HA!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Awww ... burn !!!

[–]Stevi100183 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Now, let's see some women Mr. Cleans, and I want to see that bald head shine, ladies!

[–]Crayola_Crusader 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People have no problem with describing men as inconsiderate, violent animals with adjectives like man-spreading, man-handling, and man-splaining, but describe a man in any positive way like naming fucking box of tissues "man-sized" and everybody loses their shit. -_-

[–]mgtowolf 394 points395 points396 points 6 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

It's funny, because it took three chicks to replace one lumberjack dude :P

[–]fuckeveryone________181 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

They needed to make sure to get a white, black, and Latino woman for maximum wokeness points.

[–]prodiver 91 points92 points93 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No Asians?

Boycott Brawny!!!!!

[–]PacoBedejo 16 points17 points18 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

East Asians have, on average, above average IQs so they don't count in the Oppression Olympics.

Know what's harder than Chinese algebra? An Asian man getting into an ivy league school...

[–]slimeyslime123 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

They had to cover the ages too and one of them is probably a pansexual demi-god.

[–]chicago15 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

...who go by zim and zer

[–]tygamer15 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Looks pretty ablest to me. Think about the poor disabled non-binary people.

[–]jonnytechno 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I seriously doubt either of you made or own that joke lol

[–]mgtowolf 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Someone probably seen the ad before I did and thought the same thing I am sure lol.

[–]jonnytechno 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Perhaps, I didn't want to be too passive aggressive, I thought it was funny but I've seen that comment on a few subs... I guess it's a case of great minds think alike

[–]WolfeBane84 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The only reason they did three is because they had to have one black and one asian as well.

Guarantee you.

[–]Jenocyd 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That was exactly my first thought.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

its funny that just one transexual male to female would have worked

[–]SharedRegime 268 points269 points270 points 6 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

If strength has no gender then why isnt there a man AND woman on there?

[–]degustibus 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did you just assign genders to those humans based on patriarchal archetypes???!!! WTF

Oh no, I just assumed that they were humans and not chimeras or e.t. in origin.

I'm just going to use sponges and rags now. This is all too much.

[–]BeachCruisin22 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe one of them identifies as a male!

[–]SharedRegime 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sometimes, entitlement and empowerment gets so mixed up that the issue gets complicated and it's an ugly fight fest for those triggered and snowflake people.

[–]decomposedGoat 61 points62 points63 points 6 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Deadlift world record record for:
women 672 lbs.
men 1,155 lbs.

[–]onbakeplatinum 39 points40 points41 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Numbers and measurements are tools of the patriarchy to oppress women!

[–]bright_yellow_vest 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Those are hate facts

[–]wicknest 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They call them hate facts because they hate facts

[–]Sicks-Six-Seks 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ha! Feminist engineering is gonna be hilariously deadly.

“I feel it’s structurally sound!”

[–]CrusaderRay 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There was a bridge in Florida that, I think, was built by female engineers (or at least the company liked to broadcast that they had a team of female engineers) and it collapsed within a day or two after being installed (mostly because they didn't let the concrete finish setting). Six people were crushed to death, it was NOT funny.

[–]lordberric 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What a dumb argument

Them: women can be strong too

You: YEAH WELL MEN ARE STRONGER ON AVERAGE IDIOT

like, that was never the question.

[–]ponimaet 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah really. Its like people here need an excuse to get angry or something

[–]AdvicePerson -5 points-4 points-3 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

And what's your personal deadlift record?

[–]Fsck_Reddit_Again 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly ONE female benis ::)

[–]decomposedGoat 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

irrelevant.

[+]AdvicePerson -6 points-5 points-4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess weakness also has no gender.

[–]decomposedGoat 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I didn't set the world record for either gender, so my personal deadlift is not relevant to the world record for deadlift. I'm not embarassed. I only stated the records to make a point that testosterone plays a significant factor in the development of physical strength, not to claim any personal physical strength. You're right, there are weak and strong people of both sexes. (But the strongest humans are all male, always have been, and always will be, because of the lack of significant testosterone production in women.)

[–]Chernoobyl 26 points27 points28 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Strength has no gender

buuuuuut it's women, bigots

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then why did they place the label to block their skinny arms?

[–]Anonymous2401 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah yes, because the best way to prove that women are strong without men is to give them really stereotypically male clothing. Genius.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 46 points47 points48 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

jesus...talk about fragile femininity. Do they really need paper towels to tell them they're cool?

[–]RockmanXX 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is Female NARCISSISM cranked up to 11 and paraded around as a virtue.

[–]TooFewForTwo 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Making fun of fragile masculinity is not a good thing and neither is the opposite.

[–]Childpornaddict73 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why can’t I buy a roll of paper towel nowadays without getting a feminist agenda attached to it?

[–]onbakeplatinum 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just get the great value version at Walmart. They tear up when you try to remove them from the roll, but other than that they are OK.

[–]newyorkrangers1717 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

This may be unpopular. I'll take the downvotes if I need to.

In the grand scheme of things, this to me seems miniscule.

Calling female teachers who rape kids "having sex"? Disgusting.

Women on paper towels? ... Not...that bad?

[–]JaxJags904 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I know what you mean, but the issue is when this is seen as strong, and progressive for women. But in the flip side, even being associated with men’s rights is often met with all sorts of opposition.

It’s weird.

[–]newyorkrangers173 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Fair point. I can see that. I just think the energy is better spent on other disgusting shit. It's okay for women to be, and feel empowered. It's another to put that empowering at the expense of men who did nothing wrong

[–]JaxJags904 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The issue is that it seems like it’s NOT ok for a man to feel empowered.

[–]nforne 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I just think the energy is better spent on other disgusting shit.

This begs the question, why haven't you made any posts here, if you think there are other things we should be discussing?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Someone didn't do their homework

[–]nforne 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Someone didn’t do their homework

[–]nforne 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Let's put it this way, no posts in the last two years and I can't be bothered to look back further.

The point stands. If you want more posts on a particular topic, there's nothing stopping you from doing it yourself. Whining about what other people post doesn't help anyone.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When did I whine? Lol I just said I’m the grand scheme of things this is small potatoes. If this is what people see as “men’s rights” it will not give men’s rights a good look. Just my humble opinion, internet stranger

[–]dovakin123489 26 points27 points28 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I’ve said it once and I will say it ten thousand times EXISTING AND LOVED CHARACTERS SHOULD NOT BE CHANGED

[–]onbakeplatinum 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They changed the original Brawny lumberjack to be less "macho" years ago

[–]dovakin123489 -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh well that was probably before my time but it still stands

[–]Mr_Shad0w 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm going to remember "Strength has no gender" the next time a woman asks me to move some furniture, or help her move house, or carrying her groceries.

Have fun lifting heavy things yourself! Isn't equality awesome?

[–]Wh4rrgarbl1 points 6 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Mr_Shad0w 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm really not, but believe whatever shitty sexist stereotypes help you sleep at night, I guess?

[–]p3ngwin 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

women in lumberjack shirts, because they want "more representation", I.E. reality to be more accurately portrayed.

The massive balls, considering men are almost 100% of lumberjacks, and suffer the working conditions, workplace injuries, and fatalities in one of, if not THE, most dangerous jobs.

That's not "equal representation", that's "appropriation", you're masquerading in the identity of something you wish to achieve. All the recognition for "strong women" with none of the responsibility of actually DOING what you portray yourself as.

The people actually DOING the job you portray yourself as, in this case, hard working lumberjack-types, THEY deserve the recognition, and support, for doing such a dirty, and dangerous job.

If kids enjoying Halloween dressed as Indians, Mexicans, Asians, etc trigger the PC crowd, then it's fair game to call them out when they appropriate the identity of a male-dominated job under the guise of "female empowerment".

When women decide they want to be "equally represented" in the male dominated jobs with the dirty, dangerous, fatal, and boring conditions, from lumberjacks, to oil-rig workers, etc then they can wear the outfit to present themselves as "strong women".

Cmon this isn't really anti-male is it. It's literally saying strength has no gender. We shouldn't get butthurt over this petty shit.

[–]FH-7497 17 points18 points19 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I mean what the fuck did a lumber jack really have to do with paper towels anyway? It’s not like he’s out there chopping down paper towel trees and splitting them into smaller paper towel rolls lol

Who cares? Women buy more paper towels, so they are marketing to women. It’s funny sure but seriously no outrage please ok?

[–]Aranthos-Faroth 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You must have never been to a paper towel forest before so I'll excuse your ignorance.

Towelies (paper towel lumberjacks as you might call them) are not what you think. They're more hunters than lumberjacks.

There's a special forest just outside of Alaska that contains a rare animal called the Patol. This Patol, during winter time, mates and produces on average 300-400 smaller patols.

The towelies then spend the remainder of the winter hunting the mating and birthing Patols with special tools which blind and distract the male. Harvesting all younglings and taking them for refinement (removal of unnecessary tail limbs, put into a pulveriser and then formed into paper towel sheets) after which there shipped all over the world to wipe shit from the behinds of millions.

There's an ongoing agenda in our world which is to erase biology from existence and one of the ways to achieve it is by emasculating men in every possible way and making them weaker.

[–]Head1lessZombie 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Macismyname 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But shouldn't they at least be BRAWNY women?

[–]DeadMansBoots 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So instead of describing a certain type of woman as 'butch' we now have 'Brawny'.

I see what they did there.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see this as a compliment really. They're appropriating the culture of my gender through flannels in an attempt to portray the strength that men naturally harness. So endearing.

[–]GreyTortoise 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not remotely concerned with women appearing on paper towel packaging, to be honest.

Kind of cringe-worthy that we as a group are gathered around this image like this, reacting to it like this. Imagine if you saw a bunch of dudes actually in a physical supermarket remarking about the paper towels as a product of the anti-male movement. Like your gender's representation on a cleaning product package is the most important thing.

I'd say we look like whining feminists right here. We've got bigger fish to fry elsewhere, boys. Stop screwing around in the cleaning aisle.

[–]robotiger101 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Acknowledging female strength does not deny male strength.

[–]GODZILLA637 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

oh look this paper towel brand showcases the strength of women...wtf does that have to do with paper towels. I understand that the whole pitch of this company is that their paper towels and strong, but they played themselves by using 3 women to replace one man. Additionally, men ON AVERAGE are stronger than women. I’m not saying that women can’t be strong or something like that. It is just a fact that most men are physically stronger than most women, so this package art makes no sense

Though I normally agree with things ok this sub reddit I really don't think this is sexist, at no point does it say strength is only for women, or men are weak, it's simply saying that women can be strong as well, which seems to act in the way of gender equality. As for the pictures only being of women sure if you were an ultra sensitive incel you may deem that to mean that the marketing people behind this brand are trying to say that men aren't strong, but if you were to say that, well you'd be being super sensitive, after all there's plenty of products with only a picture of one gender person on the front and we don't get offended over them.

TL:DR I love this sub Reddit but let's not stoop to r/feminism levels of thinking everything is a personal attack

[–]WolfShaman 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think anyone is saying they believe it means men aren't strong.

It's a matter of:

1.) A male mascot being entirely replaced by women. If they were going to change the logo, why not just add some women and keep the man, too?

2.) I don't think anyone has a problem with the "strength has no gender", but as with point 1, why remove men?

3.) "proud supporters of girls inc". While I personally don't have too much of a problem with this, it seems like too much pandering when you take the totality into consideration.

Any of those things by themselves probably would have been fine for a majority of people, but this is a case of "the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts".

Historically, there has been a male in the logo. So, when you take the masculine out completely and replace it with the feminine, then say strength has no gender, it seems a bit hypocritical.

Personally, I saw that and thought: "this is stupid. No more Brawny for my household.". I'm more than happy to speak with my wallet and move on with my day.

Why is the white human front and center? Only white, black, and Hispanic? What about Asians? How can we tell that at least one of these humans (preferably two or all three for real diversity) are disabled? Do any of these three humans even represent the LGBTQ+ community!? We're also going to need to see stickers on their shirts that say "I voted Democratic" or we have to assume they're all racists. "Pick a Size"? Are these humans for sale? Sex trafficking accounts for 100% of sex in the US, Brawny! You're encouraging this with your product!

Come on, Brawny, you're going to have to work on your diversity, inclusion, and rape culture apologism.

[–]JohnMcGoodmaniganson 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't think so. A bunch of radical feminists would've been up in arms about it but aren't they the ones we're trying to distance ourselves from? We should pick our battles a little more selectively than them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I highly doubt that it would be just a bunch of feminist. It would be a twitter shit storm since all they do is run their fucking mouths.

Times are tough dude, war is coming, cucks are leaving the sub and complaining even after they said they'd leave. Everything is turning into a SJW shit show.

[–]JohnMcGoodmaniganson 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And you want to be like that? You want to moan and complain about every little niche thing like this which is mostly harmless?

There's nothing wrong with being for social justice. This very sub is built around social justice for men. The difficulty is not listening to one another. Right now everyone is hearing women's issues and not men's, but that's because traditionally women's issues have been ignored more than men's and they're angry and fed up. Angry people are irrational but f you hear them out, they might hear you out. There's a lot of them who won't though and that's where you should stand your ground. Not over paper towels.

[–]LuckyLynx_ 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This isnt an actual problem can we focus on the real issues here instead of neckbearding over anything that dares to have wamyns on it?

[–]ElfexDelarge 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This seems a bit whiny imo. It’s just paper towels. Yeah the message was dumb considering they exclusively put women in the packaging, and they added 3 women opposed to the one man.

But really I don’t think it’s anti-male. Most of the people who get paper towels are women so I think they are just trying to appeal to them.

This is just crappy “woke” marketing not anything to protest about.

...and yet if I could wish for a single thing to change, it would be that women were stronger. I might find this women are strong thing a bit silly at times, but almost all substantial problems I have with feminism are ones that build on, entrench, and deepen the weakness of women.

Funny that. Am I not supposed to be intimidated by strong women? I mean, much more than I would be by strong men?

I looked at Olympic records once, comparing men and women in track and field. I was surprised to find the fastest woman in the world is only 1 second behind Usain Bolt at the 100m dash and technically, it might be based on a lack of height. When you move into the upper body stuff, women are generally using lighter objects and not throwing them as far. I recently read the lack of strength in women is mostly in the upper body. They need to be able to stand and walk just like everybody else. They are, however, generally shorter and smaller, though.

Men have higher stmina due to their greater ability to more rapidly provide their muscles with oxygen and that testosterone directly favors muscle growth. Strength has always been associated with men, but not because of sexism.
