Let me be clear, I'm not here to defend these actions. Someone who goes on a rampage and injures or kills other people should absolutely be held responsible for their actions.

But it frustrates me to no end that the media looks at all these cases and spins off two weeks of news into trying to get into the shooters head and wondering why men are committing these shootings. It's not that hard to understand, and most cases have a common thread: these men seek infamy.

That's it. They want to be known. To be remembered. To have made a mark on the world that demonstrates their anger or frustration or ideology, yes - but in nearly every case those shooters demonstrate that they wish to gain infamy.

A lot of the left will write it off as a simple matter of male entitlement. These men are simply caught up in a world where they expect importance due to their gender, and when they are caught in mediocrity they lash out believing they are owed more. I don't think that experience resonates with many men. But most men understand the pressure to be successful, the expectations pushed by society to not be mediocre but to be in the 1%, have two degrees and drive a BMW because that's the bare minimum for being seen as a desirable person. If you're not that then you may as well be garbage - in the eyes of social expectations at least, but certainly a lot of personal expectations as well.

I'm just frustrated. This is a problem we can work on - there's not one easy solution but it's not this impossible situation the media leads people to believe. These kinds of men feel left behind by society. Are their actions entitled and selfish? Absolutely. But in nearly every case, these men aren't living up to social expectations. Rather than examine those social expectations and openly accepting alternate paths to success and manhood, we seem to be far more comfortable blaming the actions on some boogeyman of entitlement and psychopathy.
