So I noticed something interesting. All the people saying looks are objective seem to be citing research and science as their source for this, while people saying it's subjective seem to be basing it off of what they have seen and done personally. Why do you think this is?

Reality most people on the planet just want to be with someone they WANT and compatible with.

There's a shared hierarchy of looks among all people. A little bit of fraying at the edges maybe to allow for 'personal preference', but almost all personal preference is horseshit. The one exception I see is perhaps between races. I do think black men show a preference for broader, thicker body types and even facial differences.

Just imagine a woman in a create a character and move one scale at a time. More breast tissue is more attractive. A fatter ass is more attractive. more muscle is more attractive up until it's sort of natural stopping point. younger is more attractive. Lower body fat is more attractive. Certain facial ratios are more attractive. A defined jawline seems to be attractive, but not the breadth or prominence.

For men,

taller men are more attractive.
Men with thicker bones, indicated by a thicker wrist is more attractive, usually a package deal with wide hands, broad shoulders etc. But independently those things are more attractive.

Broad Shoulders
A well defined and broad jawline is the most attractive facial feature a man can have. I'd probably go so far as to say without it a man can't be attractive facially.
Narrow eyes are more attractive.
A short philtrum is more attractive.
Certain facial ratios, probably more squat than average but pulling up before you look like a bulldog.
A square forehead is more attractive (hairline)
A square hairline is more attractive.
Thick Full hair is more attractve
Low body fat is more attractive
More Muscle is more attractive.

Men only have control over #12 and 13. To a limited degree jawline and I think even eyes can be improved with lower body fat.

I think there are a subset of guys with attractive faces that women like taking pictures with for Instagram but they won't sleep with them.

A differing perspective.

I have an above average male physique. I have very visible ques of upper body strength by the way I dress.

It takes great effort and dedication to get my physique over a period of time. I don't take steroids, supplements or creatine.

Yes, I do get approached and hit on by women regularly. The type of women are above average, looks-wise. But I'm not impressed, well I could be but it'll take alot more than looks for me.

Getting a physique that women find conventionally attractive changes your mindset.

Why? Because you will have ques of genetic strength, virility and health. Why would a man with something so valuable give this away so freely and available to any women that shows up and gives a little interest.

Looks reflect mindset. Clothing. Fashion. Cosmetics. Even Hygiene. Reflect the person inside. As someone who trains daily, my mindset is reflected in my physique. I’m no Greek God, but I was getting fitted for a blazer recently, and our assistant said “we have to go up, because you have big arms.” Even from another man, that sort of compliment is uplifting.

Conversely if someone is overweight, disheveled, or smells bad, what do impressions do most conclude? Those facets reflect poorly. Like ‘The Lizzo Post.’

Looks wise, everything positive starts internally.

I'm just here to announce that I finally broke through my weight loss plateau. Hovering around 127-124 for the past couple weeks. Finally down to a new low weight of 123.3 lbs. It's really hard to stay motivated to continue when there's no scale progress and I was on the verge of a complete mental breakdown this entire week over not losing weight.

Switching to OMAD is helpful because eating small meals over the course of a day is not it. You can easily get too hungry and overshoot by 100-200 calories and want to scream, cry, and break things.

Is this mentally healthy? Nope. I really don't care what it costs, I must get to a low BMI. Literally nothing else matters more to me. Weighing myself daily is helping me stay on track with my diet but it's extremely damaging whenever I gain water weight.

Also, fuck the Holidays, they've set me back 8 weeks and at least 8 lbs of fat loss. I really can't overstate how upset I am over that. I'm literally a ball of impotent monkey rage over my own powerlessness. Now that the scale is finally moving in the direction I want, I feel a small amount of temporary relief but I'm pretty emotionally spent. I need to lie down.

Looks are absolutely the highest ROI for short and long term dating. I’d even say being handsome has helped me coast through my career, make friends etc. From my experience looks have had one of the biggest impacts on my quality of life overall. Women smile at me and greet me. Guys usually spark up conversation about lifting and ask me for advice. People just generally want to get to know me. Ive been offered money to strip for a bachelorette party, had threesomes, had a virgin ask me to taker her virginity. I’ve been asked to come to sex parties and be eye candy for the swingers who show up. I can go out while traveling for work and immediately integrate with a group and go from outsider to cool dude in 10 minutes. I wouldn’t really put myself into “good personality”. I am charismatic to the point that I know I am attractive and people will take anything I have to say through halo tinted glasses. Almost all of my confidence has just come from positive reinforcement from those around me.

I’m maybe a 7 when I try hard. I can’t imagine how even greater of an effect being as handsome as say Henry Caville or Tyson Beckford would be.

I feel very little for other people overall but I seriously could not imagine life as an ugly guy and think that would be a pretty shitty situation since most of life is about human interaction. Worse would be being constantly gaslit about attributes that have little to do with social success UNLESS you already meet a minimum threshold of attractiveness.

TRP gets right that the vast majority of men can improve their looks significantly and get enough success to be happy but there will always be a subset of men where no amount of effort will get them close enough to average for it to matter.

I know rating subs are weird and not always well-intentioned but I appreciate the detailed descriptions of what makes someone attractive or unattractive. So often I can’t quite put my finger on why people look so good or a little off and it’s interesting to read about how facial proportions make it all come together.

I sometimes struggle with the fact that I've only really had crushes on very conventionally attractive women. Women who, comparatively speaking, are far out of my 'league'. I put league in quotes because obviously there's no hard and fast rule preventing these women from reciprocating my attraction.

I have to assume it's due to the prevailing culture of celebrity worship and my overall lack of exposure to normal, average looking women. So my baseline for who I'm supposed to find attractive comes from actresses in movies and tv, who are a carefully polished and manipulated product, not something you'd encounter irl.

I don't really have a question here, like it is what it is. But I do worry that these internal biases are going to cause me to keep pining after unattainable women.
