My opinion is that this is the healthiest feeling to have. Having anger toward an ex or anyone does nothing but hold you back. I think the goal is to be able to realize it wasn’t right (no matter what happened) and to feel nothing. When I started feeling this with my ex I felt relieved. I’m happy for you!

I feel friendly toward my ex. We talk or text nearly every day talking about anything from the kids, our relationships with other people, or just looking for advice on how to complete everyday tasks. The marriage was incredibly toxic and horrible, but we get along really well now that we aren’t a couple anymore. I feel like we just want the best for one another, which makes sense, since we share 5 kids and spent 25 years together.

I’m the woman in this case and I’m not asking for anything at all in the divorce. He gets the house, land, kids, money, everything. All I want is to be able to build my life after being a stay at home mom for 15 years and putting my own career on hold. I need to work all the time in order to keep a roof over my head with rent prices the way they are, and I’m incredibly grateful to him that he is willing and able to take the responsibility of the kids since he has a nice big house that he owns free and clear as well as a business that generates enough income to allow him to provide a good lifestyle for himself, the kids, and hopefully a new lady at some point in the future. I wanted things to work between us, but we were way too young when we got together and a terrible match. He used to tell me all the time that he knew there was a woman out there for him who could make him happy, but he was willing to be miserable with me in order to keep the family together. I could only hear that so many times before I decided that he deserved to be free to find that special woman who could make him happy. I also felt like I deserved to be with someone who actually wants to be with me and appreciates me for who I am. I didn’t want to spend my life with a man who felt like being with me was a sacrifice. That wasn’t fair to either of us at all. I still get to see the kids whenever I want to. He doesn’t want child support from me because he makes an astronomically higher amount of income than I do, and I’m thankful for that. I feel like I’m getting off really easy all things considered.

Congratulations, if that is truly how you are feeling you are free. I think that's what we all aim for.

I know I'm not there yet, it's going to be different for everyone. Literally infinite variables.

My biggest issue I think is the lack of even being able to explain my feelings to her. She went with the "im done with this and I'm not talking about anything i dont want to" route. Blame me for everything and 0 accountabilty on her end. At the end of the day it doesn't matter, it doesn't change anything, i fully understand that. She doesn't give a shit, understood. I still feel bitter and resentful because I am stuck carrying them around with me every day. So until I figure out a way to completely purge that from my mind I still feel things.

That is a beautiful place to be. I am curious though, given the relatively new nature of it all I have to ask - are you genuinely indifferent or have you created a false emotional wall?

Sounds like the former, if so why do you think that is the case? If the latter, wonder what healing still needs to be done.
