When I was single, alcohol used to make me better until about 4 drinks, and then things would go downhill quickly. At four drinks I'd be so quick-witted and smooth. I think it helped get me out of my head and put me on autopilot, and it was frankly the only way I could have fun in clubs or bars.

I agree with all of your points though. While I was pretty smooth when drunk, my memory and attention span sucked and if my lack of attention to detail didn't get me in trouble that night, it certainly would in our next encounter when I couldn't remember anything about them. Also, I had a hard time stopping after four beers, so by the time the night was over, I was usually sloppy and incoherent.

You learned this in 6 months? I'm jealous because I'm learning this now after a decade of drinking. I've read the advice here not to rely on alcohol but never understood it until you explained it. We ARE trying to make ourselves better. My life is in a good place just as yours is and hangovers kills any motivation to "live life to the fullest". Thank you for your post. I haven't had any alcohol or drugs in 3 months. Not only do I feel better but my game got better as well. I'm much more coherent and continue conversations much better than when I was drunk. It's much harder to escalate because you still have your inhibitions, but you make much better decisions on the type of girls that you hook up with.

Sober game is very difficult to start at first. It takes about 3 weeks before you can become comfortable to interact in bars or clubs. To be honest most girls that I have talked to find it really attractive that I don't drink.

These are all really good points. I've been thinking some of the same things lately it's just that I don't know how to quit or lay off of it. Especially being college where the majority of social events revolve around drinking. I'll start having a few beers to loosen myself up, then before I know it, I'm ten deep and taking champion pulls off of a whiskey handle. Repeat this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night and on Sunday I am usually anxious about the shit I may have said to people or the way I had acted. In addition the heavy brain fog accompanied by a weekend binge does not help with the amount of studying I put off until Sunday.

Alcohol is fun, I admit, it is really not the greatest substance to abuse even though it is so prevalent in the partying/hooking up scene. It definitely has its downsides.

I respect your choice to stop drinking and good luck.

You've actually left out another significant benefit. In my experience a large percentage of women - the majority - will find your choice not to use alcohol as an immense positive trait. It shows self-control, confidence, and is often an indicator of a pursuit of higher interests. You should highlight it, rather than act like you're drinking.

Also, your ABV comparison is incorrect. Alcohol by VOLUME means you have to take into account volume. A glass of wine is < 200 ml, a beer is 350 ml. A standard glass of wine will be the same alcohol content as one beer.

One standard glass of wine is about 5 oz while a standard beer is 12 oz. You are getting the same amount of alcohol in each.

I pretty much just ramp straight to the top with alcohol.

2-3 (tipsy): Can start talking to most people

4-7(level drunk): Can flirt decently, escalate and generally be smooth

8+ (very drunk): Magically find people who are attractive and fun, then hook up.

The only thing is that I almost never get very drunk. I almost always just control my drinking so that I stay at the "plateau" of feeling good. Sometimes I've asked myself why I just haven't gotten really drunk more, because it tends to work out pretty well.

Thanks for posting this, the last two years of my life I used to get pissed out of my face every weekend. I still had plenty of girls but waking up next to them with no recollection of the previous night sucked. It was nice for awhile but I had issues I had to deal with and I just used to run from them. Alcohol was a major crutch for me, socially and romantically. I wasn't sure who I was, so it made sense people couldn't hold on to me for too long.

I can admit that I'm still struggling to find myself, but I no longer need to get shitfaced to have a good time. Approaching women became a lot easier because I held myself to standards that I had for them. If I didn't want a fwb/girlfriend that got so belligerently drunk that she made a fool of herself constantly why should I? I still have 1-2 beverages a night just to take off the edge, and I will eventually quit all together. I realized if I could pull all these hot women drunk I could do it sober.

I've been working on me and I try to be better than I was yesterday, cutting down was the greatest thing I've ever done. I'm turning 20 next month, and I can't wait to see what that decade of my life will bring me, so I plan on remembering it.

Speaking as someone who had a terrible night last night due to alcohol, I am right behind you on that one brother. I feel my life would not lose anything if I stopped drinking. Problem I always have is people trying to buy me drinks or giving me the "you don't drink? But this is a bar/club/whatever" shtick when I'm around. What do you say to people to get them to lay off?

I'm about to throw myself back into the dating game. And I really enjoyed drinking pretty much no alcohol lately. It rarely makes me feel good and I hate the hangover part. It does make me a lot more talkative and relaxed though, so I was a little worried that it would affect my chances when picking up women. But I can see that you have a point. It just means that I have to work harder on myself, a challenge I gladly accept. Thanks for posting this.

Just FYI, one glass of wine does NOT equal three bottles of beer, unless you are drinking 12oz of wine. Most glasses of wine are about 4oz, so the glass of wine and the bottle of beer are about equal.

A glass of wine contains roughly the same amount of alcohol as a beer.

Great post. Just one thing that bugged me: What beer is below about 4.5%? In my experience, most (non-light) beer is between 5 and 7.

I like this post a lot about introspection. For me I will drink when I'm out, but one drink an hour or so. I pick my times. I'm okay with alcohol, but only in controlled settings of which I'm generally choosing the control. Otherwise I get myself the free sober driver sodas or just water for 45+ minutes until I feel maybe ready for another one. Most often, I just have the one drink and it's a good time for me.

Still, can't beat taking control of things that are within your control!

I think I want to quit drinking too. I used really enjoy it, but It's getting to the point where it's causing me more discomfort than pleasure. I started really drinking at around sixteen. You know parties with friends and just getting completely fucked up, it was really fun at the time, I'm sure a lot of you know what I mean. That went on for a while and eventually just turned into a fucking hobby. I was un employed a decent part of this time and not in school, so I was started to develop a habit of drinking pretty much every day. This then turned into what was probably minor alcoholism, though I would tell you I wasnt addicted by any means.

I then started getting jobs cause I was getting tired of sitting around doing nothing, and getting high and drunk all the time. Which helped me out but I was still drinking I'd get off work and now had more money to pend than before so now drinking seemed even better since it was like I had really earned it. So it went on to a six pack every night after work, with or without friends, there were many night I'd sit at home by myself drinking and playing games. This was around the age of 20-22 that I continued on like this. Keep in mind I still had the occasional night where I would get completely hammered with some friends at a gathering or whatever.

TLDR: STILL LONG BUT DUNNO WHAT TO TELL YOU

Anyway make a long story short, alcohol has been very prevalent in my life for the past 7 or so years. And What I'm realizing, I'm now 23, is that the alcohol doesnt make me feel good anymore, or really the way that I react to alcohol doesnt allow me to enjoy it. I often over indulge which ultimately makes the night end poorly for me. And to tie this into seduction, I'm realizing that drinking has a huge vice on my social life. Because I have associated drinking and socializing so much now, that the two are just fused together. So anytime I go out the first thoughts "alcohol". But what is happening is that I'm starting to put too much reliance on the alcohol creating a good outcome to my happiness. So I will start drinking, realize I'm not having any fun, get bummed out, think that If I keep drinking it will "get me in the zone", but then ultimately end up getting too drunk to function and humiliate myself by passing out on the floor or puking somewhere. And then when trying to escalate with a girl, you may have little inhibition, but you lose your cognitive skills, you ability to reason, remember names and details and slur your words and sound like am idiot. And after that sometimes I feel even more self conscious then if I wasn't drunk. Anyway this has been a long time coming for me and I starting to reach a breaking point and have sudden moment of clarity where I actually need to makes some changes in my life.

I have the same problem with low tolerance. I peak at around 3-4 beers and then my game goes to shit. My mates doing a DJ set at a club soon so I might have to try this sober so my game is at the least ok.

The keys to not getting a hangover:

Be fit. Pussy bodies get pussy hangovers.
Make sure you get enough vitamins before you drink. You'll piss a lot when drunk. When you piss a lot you also piss away a lot of vitamins. Getting a shot of vitamins beforehand counteracts that.
Stay away from beer, wine, cocktails and liquors. They fuck you up. This is not just bro science. The fact of the matter is all of these drinks naturally contain more congeners. It makes the hangover more severe cause your liver has more toxins to deal with. Try (Potato-)Vodka instead mixed with Red Bull or orange juice if you like.
No shuffling. Stick to one drink and one drink only. No... don't even think about that shot of Jaeger / Tequila. It will fuck you up even if you drank nothing but Vodka beforehand.
Proper dosage. Watch closely how much you drink over time. Spread it out evenly. Give your body time to absorb and deal with the alcohol. Don't ex the damn glass. Drink it slowly, take your time.
Take at least one glass of water for every glass of alcohol. The trick is to drink it in between shots because your body needs a constant, steady supply of water. It dilutes the shit you put in your belly, hence making it easier for your organs to deal with. Gobbling down a whole bottle after ex'ing like 5 glasses of gin is useless. You'll just piss and vomit more.
Eat some fatty foods before drinking. The nastier the better. From a load of bacon to (my personal fave) salami pizza glistening with fat... it's all fair game. The fat sticks to your stomach lining and slows down absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream.
The morning after, make sure to get this in your body immediately: eggs, bananas, fruit juice. Science says all of these help your body break down the hangover-causing toxins. It works.
If you still get a headache after all this, don't fuck around, take some painkillers and be liberal with the dosage. Personally, I'll swallow three Ibuprofen 400 to get rid of it fast. Make absolutely sure you're (almost) sober, though!! Last thing you wanna do is get an alcohol flashback from painkillers. Trust me. This shit ain't funny! I did it once and ended up this close to a hospital trip... never felt this bad in my life I thought I was fucking dying hahaha.
Know your limits. Proper drinking takes testing. This is "science" as much as game is. You just gotta figure out what type of drink your body handles best and in what dosage.

Now with all that said... you don't have to drink. It's certainly fun... but if you can't have fun without getting pissed then IMO something's wrong with you.

I drink every time I go out but prior to drinking I take 2 milk thistle tablets and when I get home I take 1 excedrine. I haven't been hungover in years.

I never have any issues. That said it's pretty difficult to do ANYTHING here in Vegas that doesn't involve booze. I always stick to beer. Nothing else when I am out. tequila, whiskey or vodka is just a fast track to early sloppiness.

No issues whatsoever but you have to know yourself and what you're capable of.
