It's just a shaming tactic, pretty much like Joe Biden's "If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black" comment last election - Biden tells voters 'you ain't black' if you're still deciding between him and Trump – video.

I think that men, for the most part, are caring less about social approval now more than ever.

These sorts of shaming tactics are much less effective at influencing men's behaviour, especially when words and phrases such as "misogyny", "racist", "incel", and "toxic masculinity" are so overused and abused out of context they lose all meaning and impact.

I still like the democrats more than the Republican despite disliking them both. When 100 Republicans voted not to fund FEMA then blame the democrats for there not being enough funding that sort of bullshit pisses me off more. If the Republicans actually went off policy making rather than fear mongering and being in a cult it might be a slighter harder choice.

Of all the demographics to talk about when it comes to petty sexism... your first impulse is black men? Despite being a majority-Democrat voting demographic? I could be mistaken, but I believe it’s been mentioned that the marginal pro-Trump increase is because less black men are interested in electoral politics these days. And considering how much shit they get, who can be surprised?

Misandry- there’s much more going on with divergence between genders than races, especially if you look at the racial breakdown (men are shifting right pretty much regardless of background, and we probably all know why)

It's a perfect example of why the Democrats are failing so disastrously with men. They've set up a brutal feedback loop for themselves.

Working class men go into politics looking for solutions, don't find any, leave. Liberals genius plan is to offer them insulting browbeating about their privilege and fragility and wag their fingers at them to do better, while continuing to not offer them anything. This, in a movement that is supposed to be all about listening to people's emotional truths, creates an aggrieved reaction where embittered dudes create their own alternative we call the 'manosphere'. This becomes another boogeyman for liberals to even further victim blame men for their own suffering and alienation from a political system that is excluding and failing to offer them anything.

A liberal might say, that's silly, that's fragile, everything has been about men for thousands of years, get over yourself. Guess what, you just made the problem worse. This is not a reality you get to discipline men out of. It's a reaction and a feeling among the demographic that you need to accept, work with, and re-direct back to your advantage by offering them something.

Of course, the fundamental problem with liberalism and the reason all this is happening in the first place is that they CAN'T offer anyone anything.

I wish the reportage would give more context to what he said. Was this all of it?

Obama’s call for self-reflection could have applied to everyone, not just black men. Seems like much of society wants the prez to be a masculine tough guy.

But what he said is being interpreted (not without reason?) as “y’all are sexist”. The sentence, taken on its own, seems to be accusatory and presumes to know the listener’s motives. Would it have gone down better as a question? E.g, “ask yourself, ‘does the idea of a woman President bother you?’.”

its misandry. the assumption is that men cannot choose but to vote for harris/walz unless they are sexist pig faced men.

its sad and gross. the only reason dem folks hold this view is that they do not take seriously any sense of mens issues. To them, mens issues are actually womens issues in disguise. as in, for instance, the tragedy of men being the primary targets of laws, police action, police murders, and prison population is actually a horror that women face, cause men be so bad or something see?

tho uh, vote harris/walz. trump is a strongman, getting rid of strongmen once they are in power is actually difficult and horrible, and dumping trump will free up the republicans to makes mens' issues and rights on the agenda.

I am somewhat out of the loop as I'm not an American and not Black so I'll try to be general. Do you think misogyny and misandry could play a role in these elections and if so, how big do you think their role is?

I'm asking because as an outsider I don't know how accurately news portray this situation. Everything I see seems so divisive from both candidates, but I admit that I'm a bit surprised to see left leaning men being so disenfranchised by the left that they would vote for Trump.

I understand that this blanket statement made by Obama is reinforcing a negative stereotype, but is there a small bit of truth to it that is just generalized out of proportion?

Of course, none of the lefties were having it. Reading the replies, I can fully understand why young men want nothing to do with the left.
