For those of you men who remarried: How long did it take you to be ready to date again? Where did you meet your new spouse?

A major factor is deciding when you're actually divorced? Is it when your divorce decree is issued? Is it when you move out of the house? Is it when you have finally disentangled all financial arrangement (like the shared home).

My first divorce was 1.5 years. I had a first date the day after my divorce decree was issued. The nice lady asked me how long I had been divorced. I answered "one day". She replied "One day you hope to be divorced?" I thought it was a good answer.

And what do you expect from your dating? Remarriage? It sounds like it. Put that out of your mind and work on yourself.

If the trauma of your divorce is over and one year has passed then you should feel ready to date if you so choose. You should not remarry because a certain amount of time has passed.

But - that said - I would not recommend trying to have a serious relationship in the first year post-divorce. I would not recommend marrying a woman you have not known for at least one year. So, 2 years, I guess, but putting that number in writing seems to miss the point.

If you have a friend who throws parties then that is a great place to meet a future spouse. OLD is a terrible place to meet a future spouse. Love being what it is, people will feel obligated to tell stories to the contrary.

Take the time to heal and work on yourself. Self reflection and look to understand what happened in your marriage that it ended.

I went out of the country for a year after the separation and it was perfect for me to get away from the situation and do that self reflection. I did my own thing and dated here and there when I returned. That lasted a couple of years. Built a car, worked out, enjoyed time with my kids, and just chilled.

I eventually met my current wife at my weekend job. We have very similar backgrounds and the connection was there. I was not planning to get remarried after the disaster of the first one, but decided to give it a go. We have been married now for about 13 years and definitely a better and more healthy relationship than the first. We both worked on and fixed issues from our first marriage and we communicate on issues so they don't blow up.

Your mileage may vary, but take that time for you. I found my wife when I wasn't even looking, so don't put that pressure on yourself. Be the best Dad you can and become the person that you want to be.

I divorced in 2005 (18 years together). Did not have sex or another relationship until 2007. Was lonely but had great friend group. This relationship ultimately didn’t work for me. Had 3 more LTRs up to 2011 when I met my current wife. Two of these I would have married but they weren’t ready for that. Being single and enjoying my friends as a single guy was great. Best part was having the house just my own way. I went on many dates, and thousands upon thousands of matches. It was like a job. I was very picky. I wouldn’t even kiss someone if I didn’t think the relationship would work. Being picky saved me lots of heartache and allowed me to be ready when the right woman came around. Met my current spouse in eharmony. They were much bigger then, no apps. My first wife was my HS sweetheart and my first kiss. It was like learning to date the first time at 36.

I moved out of my EX's on a sunday, had my first date on Tuesday and broke in my new couch on Saturday. I was ready and had my OLD profile up on my first day.

Dating was great, it was fun, I definitely got my itch scratched but I live in a big city with lots of options. I know it's not always the case for some. I met some cool people, had a FWB, dated a few more than several times and also had some stinkers.

I met my new spouse 1 year after I moved out, we got married 2 years after that.

I started online dating and had a bunch of fun dates and hookups. I dated one woman for a few months that I met online, but she wasn’t the one.

I met my wife organically and then before I even asked her out, I canceled all apps. I just knew if we dated we would get married.

Three years later we did. We have been married seven years now.

I jumped into dating right away. Haven’t jumped into a “serious” relationship yet, but that’s more so that I have t found the right person rather than me not being ready.

I can’t imagine remarrying though, doesn’t seem worth it to tie myself up and put myself at risk.

Bro, don’t do it. I dated for around 2 years using online dating services, found the next “one”, and got married after another 2 years. After 7.5 years of marriage and another pending divorce, I now know I married the most closeted narcissist and maliciously insecure woman I’ve ever encountered.

Save your money. I believe monogamy can work. I believe in being a committed partner. Don’t walk the aisle again, brother. The odds are against you. The courts and the process are against you. Stop splitting your assets in half. If she loves you, she’ll love you without a ring.
