Why are K-pop Idols seen as attractive to a large proportion of women?

Pretty sure pop music in every country is the purview of pre teen and teen girls. Females tend to be attracted to men within a range relative to her own age. Everything about boys bands and artists is marketed to appeal to young girls, including the selection of their young looking pretty boy eye candy.

40 year old women are not getting hot for Justin Bieber.

I have a theory. Young women/girls inexperienced with boys tend to adore feminine and cute idols. The less experience a woman has with more masculine or even just regular guys around her SMV, the more she idolizes these "safe" guys. She gets all the benefits of having strong feelings without them being known and reciprocated or rejected. See also why women like fanfiction, other male celebrities popular with young girls.

I have a feeling most women above like 14 or 15 that idolize kpop idols still have the inexperience of a 14 year old.

As for physical attraction, same thing. Guys on here will have you believe you have to be hyper masculine looking to be seen as attractive to women, but lots of (mostly young) women prefer cute guys or pretty boys as opposed to rugged and chiseled lumberjacks. Of course these same women can grow out of it. As for me, I used to idolize those same type of twinks with gracile features, but I've moved on. I still like youth and guys who lean a little bit more on the pretty side (I hate beards lmao), but I'm not attracted to those feminine looking kpop boys at all.

They aren't actually lacking in nice features though? They're just young. Young women are the ones who are interested in K-pop, and young women do actually prefer young men.

Internet tells me this guy is the most popular male kpop idol. He has very attractive features, he just looks feminine because he's a 23-year-old Korean guy wearing makeup.

K-Pop idols are actually just beauty incarnate. It’s their culture, plastic surgery is such a big deal there and it’s some of the best you can get. The k-pop idols have such perfect, symmetrical features that people are just drawn to their looks because of psychology and science. One guy from BTS supposedly just has the golden ratio in his face, and is called “world wide handsome” because his proportions are so perfect, that almost everyone can say he is beautiful.

You’re missing out on a really important fact. I only have a handful of friends who are into K-Pop, but I found out that there is something like a canon for every band. K-Pop fans have these really specific ideas of what an idol’s personality is supposed to be like. I’m sure this is crafted by the band manager/PR, but the fans actually believe that they know what their fave idols are like. So their attraction isn’t purely physical it also stems from this weird K-Pop canon.

I seriously doubt K-pop idols are attractive to more than a very small sliver of the female population. Anecdotally I'm a young (white, American) woman and don't know ANY female friends or acquaintances who fangirl over K-pop stars except a few fob asian girls, who still date white men for whatever reason. Asian men are pretty universally on the bottom of the male SMV totem pole.

Do you know mostly asian women? Asians are bit less gender dimorphic than other races. Not trying to be racist, just describing how the physiology seems to differ. It seems like maybe it's easier or more common for an asian man to be "beautiful" than ruggedly handsome. (Not that i would ever view them as such)

Also the TRP thing about trying to be the one size fits all Chadly, heavily muscled, lantern jawed sex symbol is frankly somewhat more appealing to gay men than women. (Not that i would know)

I think women are more about slim, lightly muscled, but tall dudes with hunter eyes set into faces of astonishing high cheek boned, exotic looking, almost feminine beauty. (Not that i've been looking)

Why is everyone here acting brand new. Sex symbols for teen girls and young women have almost always been thin, “feminine” in some ways, soft and romantic, not the seven foot tall, twelve pack chiseled jaw “Chad” stereotype.

Today it’s K-Pop idols, for some girls because there aren’t many boy bands right now in Western music. Yesterday it was One Direction. Before that it was Justin Bieber. *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys. Hanson. The Jackson 5. New Kids on the Block. The Beatles. Don’t think any of them would be considered “Chads” by TRP back then. I imagine if Reddit existed in the 50s there would be a lot of debate on TRP on why girls like those “soyboy betas” in The Beatles.

Even outside of music, Leo DiCaprio and River Phoenix were huge with teen girls in the 90s. Even guys who were more built usually would have an aspect that softened them. Fabio was muscular and well built but had pretty long flowing blonde hair.

There’s always been some variation of course, but I’d say I didn’t start seeing women start talking about how hot “masculine/muscular” men are until the beard guy/lumberjack hipster beard trend stated in the mid-2000s.

I used to be really into K-pop and K-HipHop (Jay Park still makes me melt) and I think it’s mostly because of the seemingly feminine qualities that a lot of western men don’t have. Kpop idols care more about appearances and skin care and generally show more gentle personality traits. Even in older European male celebs, I’ve seen that even if they have masculine looks, it’s paired with a gentle or “feminine” personality. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen girls go crazy for Asap Rocky and Tyler The Creator having a close and vulnerable relationship, or Tom Holland playing with puppies. Even I fall prey to his nice, chiseled butt in the Spider-man suit

Status is a big part of it. A large portion of game is being able to come across as high value or pre vetted. K-Pop stars are wealthy and famousnand desired by other women so they default to high status high value men.

Though I also have to say TRP severely underestimates what an effeminate man who cleans up can get. One of my best friends is a male cosplayer who sometimes used to crossdress and even though he knew he was a niche product it was a big niche he did very well for himself inside it.

They're stylish and, arguably, talented, which gives them high status. High status is almost always attractive to women, and women on this sub have repeatedly expressed how important a man's sense of style is to them, even if said women aren't into K-pop idols. Women have been attracted to much uglier western musical artists.

I looked into it myself on the BTS subreddit for a good day or two reading many threads and I've found that the majority of girls/women have no sexual attraction to them. It's the same with gay porn and yaoi--the girls/women have no sexual attraction to the short, youthful, twinkish males whatsoever.

K-pop idols have high amounts of status and money. Basically, the media heavily influences what women find attractive and women tend to follow what other girls find attractive (aka girl approval).
