What's the scenario here? She's already talking to the 8 guy and the 10 only walks past? In that case it probably won't matter that he walks by.

Is she talking to neither yet or both of them? Then I think it might make a difference, but I doubt it's a huge one. I think both guys are "hot enough", like you said in your post, that their individual attractiveness doesn't make a (big) difference. My guess is that it's about personality at that point.

I've met perfect 10s look-wise that end up being a total 1 as soon as they open their mouths. Many of my biggest crushes (both as a teen and early adult life, before my current partner) were below average on a hotness scale but had other traits I appreciated (sweet, clever, funny, etc.) I think of my partner as a 10 all around but I am obvioualy biased.

And I learned the hard way never to go for a perfect 10 if you just want to fool around. They get girls easy so they do not make the effort to be charming (to be fair we kept it PG-rated so I cannot judge his skills in bed.) Shame on me, because I was warned about this particular dude too. Hot as hell, total sweetheart... social skills though? Not so much. No game, no flirting, nothing. It felt like, okay, we have a sort of mutual agreement to go home together so we don't spend the night alone, we might kiss and cuddle a bit, that's it.

By the end of our night together I honestly didn't even perceive him as hot anymore. Even if 20yo-virgin little me had wanted to fuck him, that sentiment would have been gone by the time we crashed on his bed.

Personality is nearly always the deciding factor for me. If you are objectively attractive but we have nothing in common, or if your personality is abrasive to me, am not going to want to have sex with you.

I don't really think like this at all. I don't think of men on a scale of 1 - 10 and its usually the whole package that attracts me (looks, personality, etc). Also I rarely make the first move. Having said all that, in your example it sounds like all we have to go on is looks so I guess I'd be more into the better looking guy, at least until he opened his mouth and turned out to be a douche etc

For me “hot enough” is definitely a thing. There is a minimum level of perceived attractiveness that I require and that’s it. Personality is most important.

Literally with one of the guys I dated the first thing I thought when I saw him was “eh, I could probably work with it”.

For me, yes. Once they've met a certain threshold when it comes to appearance the deciding factor in wether I want to fuck somebody is who they are. I'd choose a decent and mature normal looking guy over one who looks like Nightwing but is childish or unkind. The stakes are pretty high afterall. BDSM is a high trust activity. Even if I'm topping I need to trust my bottom.

No, for me, looks are the first hoop you have to jump through, after that, everything is equal. A 8/10 with great personality > a 10/10 with less interesting personality.

Maybe it's just me, but the better looking a guy is, the worse of a person I assume he is, if I don't know him personally.

And it's because my father was "that guy." All of the girls wanted him back in the day according to "elder tales," and I think it got to his head because the man is, no lie, a textbook sociopath. I'm not exaggerating.
