Alabama is a hugely Evangelical state, and Evangelical voters will generally support whichever candidate is anti-abortion. the number of (white) people who vote according to that single issue in the deep South would shock you. Roy Moore was the "lesser evil" to them because at least he was pro-life.

He was a Republican candidate in Alabama.

Red state Republicans will either vote Republican or not vote at all. Not many swing votes in a state like Alabama. I'd bet a fair amount of women just sat this race out (in which case they wouldn't be counted.) But they're not going to show up and vote for the Democrat.

they don't believe the accusers, they're very religious, they're very republican, they're very pro-birth, they don't see an issue with what he's being accused of... lots of reasons, i'm sure. some may be more moderate and might not check all the boxes above, but some of them are just a little wacky.

not paying attention to the news and strictly voting for (R) candidates
caring about the news but hating (D)s more
don't care about the allegations or wacky shit Moore has said at all, would vote (R) no matter what

Republicans mostly voted for their Republican candidate. They were willing to overlook his 'extracurricular activities' or simply refused to believe the allegations were true.

Republicans decided to stay home rather than vote for Doug Jones. Among the suppressed voter turnout, the white female vote data is unsurprising. Alabama is suuuuuuuper red.

One interesting data point was the black vote which made up 30% of total voter turnout due to the lack of Republican turnout.

The whole thing is a disaster for Republicans.

Why can’t they use a condom it’s less than 1$. Poor people have more kids and paying for there birth control is silly people who make reckless decisions do so with or without support. I’m also sternly against abortion. Killing unborn babies seriously reflects the self entitled narcissistic society that we live in. Not to mention the mental health problem these women suffer post abortion.

1 - They don't believe the allegations, or (probably more accurately) they think they're exaggerated.

2 - Some people, indeed often especially evangelicals, aren't as offended by older men dating much younger women. It's just not seen as that abnormal. For these people, there may only be one genuinely troubling allegation. (The 14-year old girl.)

3 - Abortion

4 - Lesser of two evils.

5 - They just didn't think about it that much. For some low-information voters, politics is like religion in that they tend to just go with the team they were born or married into. Most Alabama women were born or married into Republican families.

Of course, all of these points apply to men who voted for Moore as well.

Most senators don't really write bills or have a huge impact on legislation other than swaying the balance of power toward the Republican leadership or toward the Democratic leadership. If Roy Moore won, it would have meant an easier time getting tax breaks, and work toward defunding planned parenthood in step with the rest of the Republicans in Senate. I personally don't support Roy Moore because of these policies.

However, I totally understand how someone would value the future of Planned Parenthood and abortion (abolishment in this case, but point stands either way), and the future of the Supreme Court over the moral victory of keeping one pedophile out of Congress.

also, the fact that this guy has been a public figure for decades but all these sex harassment accusations didn't come out until right after the deadline to replace him in the race was very suspicious. maybe he did it, but there was obviously a political motivation behind releasing the accusations like that.

there's not much that people in the South hate more than obnoxious liberal yankees coming down and telling them what they should do.
