There are situations where people get shamed for being attractive or intelligent and yes, it does seem to have an effect. In some contexts being smart is looked down on as uncool (look at the stigma associated with nerds), and in some contexts being attractive is looked down on as shallow, particularly if it involved effort (going to the gym or using makeup).

I got bullied for my good grades throughout school. I never felt ashamed of my grades, but I would still say the bullying was a problem. I don't think women are necessarily ashamed when they rack up high counts but I can understand why they wouldn't want to be shamed for it.

The word "slut" has a negative connotation; men don't use it as a compliment so it's not like it's all in women's head. "Slut" is not a neutral term, at least not yet. Being called a nerd and mocked for it was not fun in high school; being called a slut and shamed for it isn't either.

Nope. Slut-shaming is always started by men. Some women adopt it when put under social pressure.

Women have no reason to be ashamed of having many partners because their genes get carried on no matter who the father of their child is. Slut-shaming is rooted in paternity fraud fears. 'That uterus over there was touched by other men, so perhaps if I go near it it won't be my private possession.'

It is an entirely male worldview, based on seeing women as walking uteruses and vaginas, used or not. Women are literally seen as 'resources' instead of people.

So if someone is a slut but isn't offended by the label, that's fine in your opinion? If I slept with a bunch of people, I'd be a slut...I don't see why it'd be an offensive term when it's really just a descriptor.

You've identified the hypocritical double-think that goes through women's minds.

On one hand, they stage "slut-walks" and "slut-pride", claiming that there's nothing wrong with being a slut (the definition of a slut being, soemone who has a high n count). And then on the other hand, if you correctly identify a woman as a slut, they freak out and claim its offensive, even though they themselves claim there's nothing wrong with being a slut.

Its like how some sex-workers don't like being called "prostitutes" or "hookers", even though its what they are.

Basically women like to get away with doing the things they do, without having to think about the negative association that comes with it. Nobody is physically forcing them to not be sluts. They basically want to be a slut through and through, and then have men go "oh don't worry, you're not a slut" even though we all know they are.

And there's a reason being a slut is seen as shameful in almost every civilisation and culture in history. Men don't like it, we're put off by it, it grosses us out.

I mean, if there's a person who enjoys eating faecal matter, wouldn't you be disgusted by that? If you then point out that eating faecal matter is disgusting, or that you're disgusted by it, and thus disgusted by that person, are you "shaming" that person? Perhaps. But there's an innate reason that we find that disgusting. We're not stopping that person from eating his own shit, we're merely expressing our natural reaction of finding it grotesque. Now feminists will call that "shaming".

We don't control women's actions, women are independent and control their own actions. But controlling your actions means responsibility. If you want to be a slut, then you have to be a slut, and being a slut means dealing with all the repercussions of being a slut. If you want a world where there are no repercussions for anything, then you want a fantasy world.

I think this picture is incomplete. Slut shaming is perpetuated by both men and women because it is seen as aberrant behavior.

I agree that women who feel powerless put the blame on The Other Woman. However, my belief is that this isn't natural, but it's due to some women putting their eggs all in one basket (marriage).

Slut shaming is the natural reaction to seeing someone whore themselves out. Most normal people with family values don't like sluts of either gender. Disliking sluttiness is natural, and sluttiness represents laziness and a lack of values. Not everything is a conspiracy against you, some reactions to shitty behavior are natural.

Slut shaming is tatic used against these women since they are lowering the value of pussy. Making it easier to get, while other women might see this as a threat to their attention and the possibility of losing out on a man to "support" her. (Wasting time/money to get sex) If someone is atracted to you they don't want to waste your tine, they go straight to fucking.

This argument really doesn't work. Replace slut with black, gay, etc.

Otherwise, I agree that slut-shaming is better explained as a female cartel rather than patriarchal control of female sexuality.
