[CMV] I have come believe that feminism stigmatizes male heterosexuality as inherently rapist in the same way Christian evangelicals stigmatize homosexual males as pedophiles.

I think feminism is tunnel visioned by its focus on labeling everything negative after men (patriarchy), and this tunnel vision is going to eventually end feminism.

Some of the young men I knew in college treated me badly for not chasing girls and drinking beer are now asking me to get them internships at the place where I work. Why do young men expect special treatment from the people they harassed? Is this supposed to be alpha male behavior?

I don't think feminists realize how bigoted and sexist their ideology is when they attribute success to overcoming men and not overcoming personal problems.

From personal experience I have learned there is a social stigma when a man rejects a woman or when a man shows little interest in dating or having sex with women, but women rejecting men is socially acceptable. Why is there a double standard in this regard?

Not a feminist but in my experience I think there are three types of women that seek equal rights:

  1. Women who made feminism their lifestyle and need reasons to keep the movement alive. No matter how equal we become, they will reject the facts in claim inequality.

  2. Women that have had bad experiences and assume their treatment by universitites, offices and institutions in general are due to them bein women. Because of that, they believe men and women have not equal rights.

  3. Women who are aware that under the law, at least in the Western world, men and women have equal rights. However, they see a set of expectations and stereotypes that might affect one sex and not the other. This feminists don't seek government intervention. They are more of social activists that want to create awarness of certain issues.

I'm not a feminist, but I think that the last has a valid point.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 9 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

And I agree, except social expectations are often a double edged sword and cut men just as much, if not more now, as women. For example: the gender pay gap. Once you get down to the facts it turns out women just choose safer and less lucrative careers. Feminists will say then why do we condition to want these careers, but no one asks the inverse why do we condition men to want dangerous and highly stressful careers.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

I don't see why we should be focusing on either tbh. If men choose those jobs, it's their choice. Same with women choosing less lucrative, safer jobs. No one is forcing men to take dangerous jobs just like no one is forcing women to take less lucrative safer ones.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I actually agree with your stance. But now you're in another argument of agency vs socialization. Leftists and feminists usually see people as products of their environment and culture, with very little agency. I was just pointing out that if you do take that stance, at least be consistent and apply it to men too.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I was just pointing out that if you do take that stance, at least be consistent and apply it to men too.

You won't get this from feminists. They expect the benefits from victimhood without the responsibility of actual equality. It means campaigning for female criminals to serve the same jail time as men or demanding more men in education. But if it benefits men in any way it is problematic. It is pure hypocrisy and they get away with it because they have convinced the world that men are having all the fun at the cost of women, who are somehow the ones actually doing all the hard work.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm a bit of a feminist and I posted the original comment.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are a more level headed one, but I doubt very much that every single feminist hates men. As a collective feminists would agree that benefits for women would be great but they are quiet when there are potential benefits for men or oppose benefits men may get altogether. You are one of the few I have seen okay with things like men being able to opt out of parenting. But this is not something that goes beyond our little debates here. In the real world, men have a lot more mountains to climb. As a collective, feminists are not interested in anything that helps men unless it benefits women in some way. Opting out of parenting or equal jail time for the same crimes are such things.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But if it benefits men in any way it is problematic.

If it even anything is focused on men its problematic.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

No one is forcing men to take dangerous jobs

We do to a degree or least in some areas like that where they mine coal. Its like we still enforce male gender roles when it comes to jobs and push men to take on higher risk to prove their manhood and be able to earn more.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I am familiar with coal mining country, having practiced several cases in eastern KY. Those men are not forced into it, they choose it, it's just become ingrained in small town, rural culture. It's mostly familial to my understanding. It's not broadly socially expected. Plenty of men move away from those towns where they have more job opportunities, or go on to get an education and do something else.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

it's just become ingrained in small town, rural culture.

Which is my point really. As its part of the culture and they feel they must do it. You can say they do it at their own free will, but what other jobs are there in such places that pay well? More so men especially in these rural areas are more subject to men being the breadwinner and not able to break free.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You're using the same line of reasoning feminists do. Men being expected to be the breadwinner isn't anymore socially ingrained then women being expected to take on the primary caretaker role and put their careers second. If you believe this about men, you have to believe it about women too. While I think there is some influence there, it's also a personal choice.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You're using the same line of reasoning feminists do.

I know. There are very few parts of feminism I actually agree with, I know shocking.

If you believe this about men, you have to believe it about women too.

Not when women are clearly more free of their gender roles than that of men are. I mean even feminists today are being force to admit this more and more despite how much they outright refuse to do so.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't think you can say they are "clearly more free of their gender roles." Men are more constrained when it comes to sexuality, I'd say, but not when it comes to being breadwinners. If that was the case you wouldn't see such a rise in women breadwinners. It's accepted for women to take that role, hence, is accepted when men don't.

Ultimately, I think most people are more free than constrained.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think you can say they are "clearly more free of their gender roles."

Why not? You even admit to women becoming breadwinners more. Women aren't restricted to dresses anymore. They are more free to get careers etc.

I'd say, but not when it comes to being breadwinners.

Even tho they are. Hypergamy is still alive and well. Just because more women are breadwinners today doesn't mean men aren't still held to that role. More so you are leaving out the fact women are more educated than men period. That plays a huge part in the breadwinner role.

I think most people are more free than constrained.

If that was the case then why are men falling behind women then? They are less educated, less likely to seek out help. Increasingly having body image issues and being objectified in the media while women are in decline here. Suicide rates have increased for men. Men's labor participation rate has declined while women has increased and that make up the majority of the workforce. Men still can not wear clothing like dresses and what have you, while women aren't restricted. Men still today can't show emotions openly without being mocked for it.

[–]GridReXXThe "XX" in my name means I'M A WOMAN 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hmm. Then just ties back into the sexual market place.

As a woman I'll even admit that a man with a low paying job surrounded by women with higher paying jobs is going to be at a disadvantage when trying to attract a lifelong mate.

Simply by the nature of female and male sexuality, men are going to be driven to take on jobs that impress women and signal good fatherly and providership qualities.

You could say that's their problem and choice, but it would be lacking empathy to say so.

[–]OfSpock 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

And women know they are likely to get more than half the childcare and choose careers with that in mind.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yet women more so than men pick jobs that give them better life/work balance.

[–]OfSpock 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yes, because they know they will be picking up more hours at home.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Despite women working less hours at home now.

[–]OfSpock 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Compared to what? They're still working more hours than men last I heard.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Compared to years past.

[–]Entropy-7Old Goat 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

No one is forcing men to take dangerous jobs

Until you hear the magic words "imputed income".

But more seriously, there is still a social expectation for men to be the breadwinner and they will take crappy, dangerous and soul-destroying work to support their wife and kids.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's like saying there's a societal expectation that women will take lesser earning, safer careers and we can blame the gender pay gap on this, rather than women's own choices.

[–]Entropy-7Old Goat 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's a combination. It makes zero sense to complain about it. My guess is that you out-earn me by 2-to-1 or more. I am a vagabond and so I not going to make some human rights march so that vagabonds can earn as much as you.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I actually believe it's a combination too, I just think we all pretty much have options to go against social pressures one way or the other.

[–]Shazoa 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is against those kind of gender roles. At least, pressuring people to fit them.

[–]tiposkY'all hoes need Jesus! God bless! 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thats true, but movements tend to concentrate on specific groups. I mentioned stereotypes that affect women because feminism is about women in the same way that MRA is about men or BLM is about black people and so on. The ideal movement to deal with equality would be egalitarianism, but oh well...

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The ideal movement to deal with equality would be egalitarianism

Just be another religion really. Feminists think they are all about gender equality along with MRA's, meaning the worship the same "god", but have different views of what makes up gender equality. Much like how Christians and Jews worship the same god but their faiths are different from each other.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with you, especially with point 3.

Point 2 is very much like racial discrimination. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. It's hard to determine if its happening or not. I have had a hard time in my professional life with men who won't do what I tell them to do. Then I realized women don't either, they're just better at smiling and telling me what I want to hear.

[–]purpleppparmchair evo psych 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I agree with a fair amount of social awareness stuff, but I cannot deal with the double standards. I was watching Shameless (US) with a feminist friend and in episode 2 there's a scene where a guy is tied up and raped in the butt by a woman. The scene is portrayed as humorous. I told my feminist friend that it was rape, and he very reluctantly and hesitantly agreed. If the victim was a woman and the rape portrayed as humorously, there would be a feminist outrage.

[–]Meetchel 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The rape scene in Pulp Fiction was definitely not portrayed as humorous.

[–]GawernatorI race motorcycles 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think I saw that episode and didn't even think twice about it. Violence towards men, sexual or otherwise is usually humorous in media. But if you hit a girl......

[–]purpleppparmchair evo psych 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think part of the reason why it's acceptable is that it's seen as unlikely for a man to be raped that way so we can suspend our empathy while watching the scene. I was uncomfortable with it due to some bad personal experience.

[–]GridReXXThe "XX" in my name means I'M A WOMAN 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I watch Shameless. Do you mean the scene with V and Kevin? If so, I don't recall that being rape. V and Kev are the only loving real couple on the show. They also try sex role play. I think that scene wasn't she pretending to be a slave and he a slave master getting a comeuppance lol

[–]BPremiumMeh 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, with Frank and Sheila

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Was going to say.

[–]GridReXXThe "XX" in my name means I'M A WOMAN 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh!

[–]tiposkY'all hoes need Jesus! God bless! 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I know many feminists and most of them don't think rape against men to be acceptable. Unfortunately, some feminists do and movements geared towards specific groups are not gonna be 100% about equality, as they tend to focus on inequality that affects that specific group.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thing is groups that do focus on one group love to claim to be all about equality even when its obviously clear their group becomes more equal than others.

[–]LSTW1234 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, the whole point of Shameless is to portray traumatizing situations in a humorous manner. That's the beauty of it.

I don't disagree that hardcore feminists would be outraged over portraying a non-consensual sex act as humorous if it was a female victim, but at the same time, Shameless does A LOT of shit that would piss them off. I don't think they watch that show.

[–]purpleppparmchair evo psych 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I gotta watch more of it then. Shameless is actually popular among democrats. Maybe not feminists.

[–]LSTW1234 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

You should watch more of it! It's a great show.

If it is more popular among democrats I imagine that's because of its subversive take on social issues. Perhaps Republicans are more likely to be turned off by the sheer crudeness of it all? Also, Frank is kind of a mockery of a conservative person - his political rants are pure gold. But he also says and does a lot of shit that would put some feminists into a tizzy.

[–]purpleppparmchair evo psych 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah maybe because of the mockery stuff. I find it hard to believe that Republicans are turned off by crudeness after the election.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yuck, I've always held rape in entertainment media as distasteful.

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That episode was skipped (not aired) where I live. The English version also had a rape scene (Frank was the victim, but it wasn't Sheila) and the BBC won't rerun that particular episode.

[–]fiat_lux_Red Pillar 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The last one is the easiest to sympathize with. The main problem I have is when the raising awareness uses misleading or outright deceptive information. Also the hostility to skepticism.

[–]Entropy-7Old Goat 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The worst example of feminists are women of middling talent whose ambition far outruns their abilities. So in their company there are few women in management positions; a position opens up and this type of woman applies for the promotion, along with half a dozen guys with more experience and qualifications; and then it is an injustice when she doesn't get the job so now they need affirmative action programs.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (40 children) | Copy Link

Women that have had bad experiences and assume their treatment by universitites, offices and institutions in general are due to them bein women. Because of that, they believe men and women have not equal rights.

lol wut? Women are treated better in college than that of men. Colleges often side with women in terms of rape claims. Colleges also bend over backwards to get women into college and that STEM programs while not doing jackshit for men. Women also have more college scholarships than that of men have as well. Colleges also have safe spaces and that women only spaces just for women while none exist for men.

Women who are aware that under the law, at least in the Western world, men and women have equal rights.

Men and women do not have equal legal rights under the law. Or that are treated fairly under the law. A woman is going to get off much easier for any crime compared to a man. In the US male circumcision is 100% legal while female one's are not. Then there's the whole draft thing which women are still not subject to.

[–]tiposkY'all hoes need Jesus! God bless! 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

lol wut? Women are treated better in college than that of men.

It is irrelevant for my post how universities actually treat women as a whole. My point is that for some people any bad experience is a sign of discrimination. Let's say the woman doesn't get admitted, gets bad grades, caughts a teacher in a bad day... if she believes women and men are unequal she might attribute these things to sexism whether she's right or not, and she could resort to feminism or any ism to "fight" against what she perceives.

In the US male circumcision is 100% legal while female one's are not. Then there's the whole draft thing which women are still not subject to.

Ok, that was an exaggeration, but again, the point is that legally women are not worse than man. Also, not everyon lives in the US, so for some of US things might be different.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It is irrelevant for my post how universities actually treat women as a whole.

No its not. Just because a woman had a single bad experience doesn't mean women and men are suddenly unequal. More so the type of situation you describe is much more someone looking to be a victim than anything else.

that was an exaggeration

How?

Also, not everyon lives in the US, so for some of US things might be different.

I know they are in fact different. For example in the UK women can not criminally rape men can only sexually assault them while men can criminally rape women. In the US shockingly enough women can criminally rape men.

[–]tiposkY'all hoes need Jesus! God bless! 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No its not. Just because a woman had a single bad experience doesn't mean women and men are suddenly unequal. More so the type of situation you describe is much more someone looking to be a victim than anything else.

The issue is that you think I'm justifying them, I'm not. I'm explaining why some women might think we have not equal rights. Reality is irrelevant to the movements you join. Most people join movements because of their perceptions of reality.

If you were asking me if women are unequal because of some anecdotes, then I would have answered "no".

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most people join movements because of their perceptions of reality.

Would more say they join them because of some actual injustice but those movements twist your perception of reality. Meaning you go from seeing a legit problem say not able to get an abortion, you join feminism but then it twists your perception to where everything is a problem and is sexists.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

I think she is saying that the women in question take any bad experiences they have and put them on the fact that they are women. Bad grades= because woman, not because didnt study..duh / s

Men and women do not have equal legal rights under the law

"the law" and execution of the law are different things.

A woman is going to get off much easier for any crime compared to a man.

Evidence? And please don't give me the same stat on sentence length differences that includes all crimes because more men are committing violent felonies than women. Show me where a female murderer gets a lighter sentence than a male murder under the same circumstances.

In the US male circumcision is 100% legal while female one's are not.

Legal but not required. If you don't want your son circumcised you don't. Period. Female circumcision (which is a very different procedure that has fatality rates waaaay higher than male circumcision) is illegal here to provide a safe haven for young women fleeing countries where it is required or the punishment is death.

Then there's the whole draft thing which women are still not subject to.

True. But why is it that conservative men have the biggest issue with women in the military and conscription for women? Why are conservative republican lawmakers the ones shooting down bills to include women in the draft?

I posted a feminist source as even various feminists admit to this even. But here's another one. And another one. Last two links are academically supported.

I don't know why you even question this, as this is pretty much common knowledge at this point and that something even feminists have a hard time rejecting.

If you don't want your son circumcised you don't

Not that he has any say in the matter. Its ironic that liberals and that feminists fight for bodily autonomy for women but not for men, its like they feed into men being the disposable sex.

But why is it that conservative men have the biggest issue with women in the military and conscription for women? Why are conservative republican lawmakers the ones shooting down bills to include women in the draft?

Why are you asking me? I am not one of those men. More so I am pretty sure democrats have also shut down such bills as well.

Fair enough though it seems like the gender/race of the victim is more significant than that of the accused. It's not common knowledge for people who don't spend their lives arguing over identity politics on Reddit so consider this a win in that you CMV.

Actually bills to expand the draft to women have been introduced by democrats, rejected by a majority male republican congress.

No it doesn't but the very people pointing to no draft for women as an example of misandry are the same ones who instantly flip and say most women aren't fit for service anyway. Another fun fact--NOW in the 80’s was a supporter of a bill to expand the draft to women. You know, those evil feminists who want women to have privileges over men.

Ok, I'll bite. Take a look at this article from Time:

"Overt displays of sexism of the bottom-pinching variety are largely passé in the American workplace. What remains, unfortunately, is a set of subtler and more ingrained cognitive biases deeply rooted in our evolutionary and cultural past. Getting rid of them will require an honest reckoning with the inalienable fact that humans are primed to make implicit errors in perception and even good people who actively eschew bias may nonetheless harbor subtle yet damaging stereotypes of which they are unaware."

I agree that we have mostly equal legal rights. I agree with MRA's frustration with current divorce and custody laws, actually. But I would argue that significant unconscious cultural bias against women persists. Especially women who are strong and seek power. I think there's a lot of focus on womens' appearance rather than their ideas still. I think that women and men are held to different standards. I think women and men who try to act a different way than their gender dictates they should act are still shamed. I think all these things are problems that harm women and men, and we need to work on them as a society.

Essentialism versus social constructionism?

[–]siaynoq11Imperator 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I definitely take a more social constructionist view, mostly due to my own experiences. Do you take a more essentialist view? Why?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The same can be said for really any group of people. You can make about generalizations about race, stature, weight, even hair color. Also, you can work on it all you want but it will never go away.

Instead of focusing on this as a society, individuals should be learning to disregard the negative opinions of others that are without merit.

[–]siaynoq11Imperator 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, there's negative biases about a lot of characteristics. So we should just give up working on it and allow others to stereotype us however they please? I don't think that's an equitable solution. I'm working on my own biases all the time. To me, that's what being a responsible humanist in the 21st century means.

It's not so easy to disregard the negative opinions of others when they hold systemic power over you. Maybe you mean that you shouldn't look for validation from other people, in which case I agree.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So we should just give up working on it and allow others to stereotype us however they please?

Yes. People are allowed to form their own opinions no matter how off they might be. It's not my duty or anyone else's to tell people how to think.

It's not so easy to disregard the negative opinions of others when they hold systemic power over you. Maybe you mean that you shouldn't look for validation from other people, in which case I agree.

Sure, it's not easy but it can be done. People make first impressions based on appearance but usually they change after getting to know someone.

The only significant change the average person can make is to take care of yourself. Learn skills. Build a business. Make a family. These opportunities are available to virtually anyone who seeks them out. What more can you ask for?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

I am a woman

I truly believe men in the hiring or promotion process for women cannot escape bias. This is where issues of sexual harassment also come in. The male gaze causes attraction to become a factor in promoting or hiring and also complicates boss-worker relationships.

(Disclaimer that this will change soon as women being departmental heads, CEO's, managers becomes more commonplace. In fact due to the rate at which women are going to higher education compared to men, it will be a majority of women who have these positions.)

Besides that, the issue of abortion is obvious. No one has ever been able to prove to me that men carry an equal or heavier weight in the pregnancy (and often child rearing process). Just as well, men are often the majority legislating on abortion and access to birth control.

This is unsolvable and not exactly an issue of prominence but feminists tend to not be able to acknowledge it and attribute it to culture or society. Men are physically stronger than women. A woman has to be infinitely more cautious around strange men than a man around strange women.

The valuation of virginity hurts men and women in different ways. Each is equally bad. Women who have sex are sloots and men who don't are worthless. Being an adult this gets less bad but in high school and early college I heard some really dumb shit based off this (women who have darker vulvas have sex more, lots of sex causes women to become hysterical, men who don't have sex are pussies or mentally ill)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I have the rare experience here in that I work in a female dominated field with female dominated leadership. I wish I could tell you as a woman that it's easier but it's not. I've been stabbed in the back by plenty of women. I've been treated unfairly and even bullied by women. So no I've never been sexually harassed but that doesn't mean I haven't had to deal with equally difficult experiences at the hands of women.

Just as well, men are often the majority legislating on abortion and access to birth control.

Yes but that's largely a consequence of he fact that most lawmakers are male BUT most voters are female. Maybe we should stop voting for men with anti-women attitudes (see: working class white women voting for Trump).

Men are physically stronger than women. A woman has to be infinitely more cautious around strange men than a man around strange women.

I don't know about woman being the majority in positions of authority given IQ distributions.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

First all much of that is still very debateable. But based on what I'm assuming your referencing. There are more brilliant men than brilliant women. there are more retarded men than retarded women. It doesn't take a genius to be a manager, CEO, or academic.

Women do better in higher education and secondary education is increasingly populated by majority women. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 20 years most departmental heads, college admins, and at least in women dominated fields like HR, most managers are women

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Not only are there more male geniuses but there are more men in the "very smart but not brilliant" IQ range as well. It's not as pronounced a difference as the extremes but it's there. IQ is among the best predictors for professional success. I don't doubt that there will be more and more women in some of the authority positions that you described but it's extremely unlikely that women will comprise the majority of CEOs. IQ differences is only one reason for that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

"In 2007, Johnson and Bouchard (2007) conducted 40-60 mental tests that were not constructed to eliminate sex differences also found no sex differences in general intelligence or g factor except in residual factors such as verbal abilities and mental rotation.[41][42] Another study published in the Journal of Psychoeductional Assessment also found no sex differences in g factor in a sample size of 744 5-85 year old participants on the Wide Range Intelligence Test.[43] A 2009 study published in the Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology also found no sex differences in fluid intelligence except female 8 point advantage on writing and male 4 point advantage in math among 22-90 year old participants in a sample of 500 participants.[44] A 2015 study published in the journal of Psychology in Schools found no sex differences on standardized testing of achievement except a small persistent female advantage in reading and large female advantage in writing among a nationally representative sample of 1,574 6-21 year old participants."

Jesus you guys are so obsessed with IQ. And also with taking one single set of data and using it as if it is conclusive when most experts in the field would never do that. Calm the fuck down.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_differences_in_intelligence#Researchers_in_favor_of_males_in_g_factor

"The findings are unquestionably robust: Girls earn higher grades in every subject, including the science-related fields where boys are thought to surpass them."

"Less of a secret is the gender disparity in college enrollment rates. The latest data from the Pew Research Center uses U.S. Census Bureau data to show that in 2012, 71 percent of female high school graduates went on to college, compared to 61 percent of their male counterparts. In 1994 the figures were 63 and 61 percent, respectively. In other words, college enrollment rates for young women are climbing while those of young men remain flat."

I don't really give a shit who's smarter. Honestly I think people who want to prove "men are smarter," "my race is smarter," are obsessed with trying to take credit for shit that they themselves have not accomplished. I am more interested in finding out why girls do better in school now. I assume its partly because school environment now being more suited towards girls.

http://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2014/09/why-girls-get-better-grades-than-boys-do/380318/

In any case. Going to college is a big predictor of being able to take on a professional career. The number of women going to college is increasing where as the number of men is dropping off. Acknowledging that in the next few decades women will have a higher share of managerial jobs doesn't mean men are dumber.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I'm not remotely interested in proving "my sex is smarter" or "my race is smarter." I'm Somali. There is close to nothing that I can even attempt to take credit for if I was even slightly interested in group pride. I'm also well aware of the ecological fallacy. I'm not trying to judge anybody on an individual basis.

The only reason why I'm even remotely interested in this is because of the mainstream feminist narrative that that pushes this idea that women are poorly represented in positions of eminence relative to men entirely due to discrimination. I think that's a major problem. Hell, I don't even think IQ is close to being the only explanatory factor. I'm opposed to the same line of thinking for black under-representation as well.

Not only has it been my persistent personal experience that there are less girls in gifted classes than boys but there is research that tends to support the difference in IQ variance. I think that's something to consider in predicting something like women becoming the majority of CEOs. That is all.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The only reason why I'm even remotely interested in this is because of the mainstream feminist narrative that that pushes this idea that women are poorly represented in positions of eminence relative to men entirely due to discrimination.

Did I say this?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Did I say you did? Just correcting the record. You strongly implied that my reason for objecting was because I was interested in proving the superiority of my group.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

9/10 arguments about IQ I encounter are "my group is better than." Blame me for being wary I guess. I'm not sure why your comment is needed then. You acknowledge research on IQ is flawed. I didn't even claim that women will be taking these positions due to IQ. It could be affirmative action ffs, I don't really care.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

As you can imagine, I run into the same problem when IQ comes up. Somalis are considered borderline retarded, in case you didn't know.

I believe my comment was justified because once your prediction that women will be the majority in some of these positions fails to materialize, particularly with the highest-echelon, the BS narrative that I described will become even more extreme unless IQ variance, among other factors, is taken into account. Just putting it out there for consideration, if nothing else. I strongly believe that women as a whole will never out-compete men as a whole for things like the position of CEO in a free labour market. Affirmative action is some bullshit and something else entirely.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This kind of shit is why people still sit up and listen to feminists when they talk about women being discriminated against. Nice job.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

"That kind of shit" is the truth. I already knew feminists couldn't handle the truth and live in a fantasy world so it's no surprise that they'd object vociferously to facts.

It's a fact that there are more male geniuses than female geniuses. There are more men at both ends of the extreme.

  • Men are held to a more rigid definition of masculinity and what being a man is

  • Men being domestically abused, suffering from depression and holding back feelings because they feel like they are not doing to be "real men"

  • There is less help for homeless men who are struggling, women have a priority over them

  • Female to male sexual assault is seen as trivial and sometimes joked about, this goes for mal prison rape as well

  • Women are held to almost impossible standards(if you have sex you are a slut, if you do not you are a prude)

I wouldn't call it an impossible standard, as women who have sex in committed LTR's aren't usually shamed. It's unfair that men are held to a lesser standard when it comes to being able lots of sex without the same degree of judgment from most people, but virgin shaming is worse against men than women.

What she said. If a woman has sex a lot she's seen as a slut, but if a woman doesn't have a lot of sex people see her as a prude or a tease. So she will get a negative label no matter what she does.

Mostly redpillers, ultraconservatives and jealous guys who she's turned down.

Redpillers won't date her (which is a positive consequence imo)

But also older people in her life (pastors, grandparents, church friends) may see her as immoral.

Women labeled as "sluts" are assumed to always be wanting it even when they don't, which leads to rape culture.

Yet your examples of the consequences of slut shaming mostly included examples of groups of men not wanting to date her.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Except, no, it's not about that. It's about being harassed over it.

I had a bit of a crazy college period after a bad breakup involving stalking and lots of horrible behavior from the guy involved. I didn't hurt anyone because of my behavior, however, because I did things that other people didn't approve of, I was labeled a "slut." (Most of these things weren't advertised - they were distributed across campus to everyone I knew by the person in question without my consent.)

Because of this, I lost most of my female friends, my male friends started sexually harassing me, and I became horribly depressed. I also lost the ability to do my job without being harassed, which ultimately led to me quitting my job.

The problems elaborated upon by the original comment were mostly easily-identifiable problems. A guy can say "I don't want to date you because I'm not attracted to you" and can easily find someone else without bringing her weight, her sexual behavior, or really anything else into the equation.

Yeah, I agree a lot of slut-shaming comes from other women. However, I don't think that makes it any less of a gendered problem, nor do I think that means it's any less tied to sexism (albeit oftentimes internalized sexism).

Same thing goes for guys who're shamed for being gender non-conforming. A substantial amount of hate comes from other males but that doesn't mean its not a facet of sexism against men.

[–]cuittlerಠ_ಠ 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I only have my own experience to share but out of the several dozen times I've been called a slut only once was it by another girl. Every other time it was some douchebag shouting from his douche truck. IME guys slut shame a helluva lot more than girls.

I'll add to this that much of the third person slut shaming I've witnessed came from men too.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No one said they weren't allowed to have sexual preferences. You can point out that there's a cultural judgement attached to a particular behavior without telling RPers they have to change their sexual preferences for Christ's sake. No one cares that red pillers don't want sluts to LTR, she's just pointing out that there is a double standard.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You can point out that there's a cultural judgement attached to a particular behavior

So what?

No one cares that red pillers don't want sluts to LTR, she's just pointing out that there is a double standard.

Then why were the examples about sex?

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So what?

So you can point out the existence of a judgement without telling ppl they have to change, much less change their sexual preferences, which is what you seem all in arms about.

Then why were the examples about sex?

Because the double standard is about sex. You can claim it exists and still NGAF that red pillers -- a tiny percentage of the male population -- aren't dating alleged "sluts."

[–]hakosuaEscape the Pillory 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then why were the examples about sex?

Interesting! I'm oftentimes left with this question after reading posts from people in the manosphere; like, if the only consequence of a bias is restrictions on who you get to fuck, is that really such a problem?

But now that you throw the question back at those of us who're strongly opposed to slut-shaming, I think I understand their stance a little better. Who you can fuck (or date, or marry) says something about social capital that's difficult to articulate otherwise. I mean, we're all familiar with the shame that comes from being an outlier in some way. Unfortunately, 'cause feelz' is not usually considered a valid argument. So we point to the tangible, easy-to-articulate repercussions of a loss in social capital; namely, decreased romantic and/or sexual prospects.

Not sure how to fix this myself. All I can do as a female is reassure you: slut-shaming is real and it sucks, same as all the gender-specific shame that males also have to cope with.

[–]Meetchel 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

More serious instances of "slut shaming" happen in the courtroom by their alleged rapist's attorney and by the media, not by their pastor.

[–]EliteSpartanRangerNice Guys Don't Ask For Rewards 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This too, and the people who read the news about rapes and say "well she invited it, she was dressed in a short skirt" prevents issues like date rape from becoming seen as a serious issue that it is.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes? That is the job of an attorney to cast facts in the most possible light for their employer.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq. 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not when it's irrelevant, but that of course is on opposing counsel to object to and the judge to make the final call. Fortunately, the federal evidentiary rules have addressed this issue directly and I'm betting most state evidentiary rules followed suit. I think they were changed in the 80s.

[–]Meetchel 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The argument is over the relevance to the jury of said facts and whether they are admissible in court, not whether the defense attorney is moral or immoral in trying to defend his client however he can. The jury only sees what the judge deems relevant.

[–]ZoidbergluverBluePurple Pill Woman 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

I don't think it's sexual preference.

Many people genuinely seem to think that slut = bad person. If a woman likes to have sex, she is seen as immoral, having bad character, having low self esteem, etc.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

So what? I still fail to see the problem. Are we not allowed to chose the company we keep?

[–]ZoidbergluverBluePurple Pill Woman 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

Uhh yes you are allowed to choose who you hang out with. That's not even slightly relevant to the problem.

The problem is that men who have sex are praised, and women who have sex are seen as immoral. We are not socially equal by gender because of stigmas like this.

[–]ZoidbergluverBluePurple Pill Woman 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I mean... what is a slut? Everyone has a different answer to that question. Some people go by numbers of partners, some people go by relationships with the partners (ltr vs ons) etc.

But the point I'm making is that promiscuous women are seen as "bad" people while promiscuous men are praised. Men and women are not socially equally because of stigmas like this.

Another example is single mothers vs single fathers stigma, and when fathers leave their kids vs when mothers leave their kids

[–]AtLeastTwoPills 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Things that are more difficult to attain are valued more than things that are easier to attain. This is why the "shaming" of slutty women is similar to the "shaming" of incel men.

[–]AtLeastTwoPills 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

False dichotomy. The slut label is dependent on the number of partners. to demonstrate, compare these two: a woman who has sex 1,000 times with one man vs. a woman who has sex with 1,000 different men.

[–]EliteSpartanRangerNice Guys Don't Ask For Rewards 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The marital exemption from the common law crime of rape does not mean that men were legally allowed to assault and batter their wives at will without legal recourse. It means they couldn't be specifically prosecuted for the general intent crime "rape". This is a weird TRP/mgtow interpretation.

Spouses were exempt from rape charges, it's similar to spousal immunity in testifying. I don't know anytjing about Russian law. The rape statutes would define raoe as something like "forcible sexual intercourse with a woman other than ones spouse". It didn't mean marital rape was LEGAL it meant that by definition the crime of rape specifically only applied to non spouses.

Ya largely because it was assume men and women's bodies operated the same out of women giving child birth. Advances in medicine and in tech and the erosion of gender views for women have led to such things.

is concerning

How is such a thing concerning? You going to see more of this stuff as medicine and tech improves. I mean we are now able to see biological differences better between female and male minds and see how we think and how that thinking differs biologically.

What I am saying is no matter what the gender there are times we go to the doctor or that hospital with the fear of we won't able to be treated for what ever we have. Or that we won't be diagnosed correctly.

What is the relevance that this gender difference only applies to certain diseases, and not all?

Right now next to none. I mean look at heart attacks while women do indeed have some different symptoms they can also have the male ones as well.

[–]shoup88Report me bitch 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

More for feminists. Because if you actually read up on this you find they are doing more female specific research now part of which is now possible because our tech has improved greatly. People will always have unfounded fears that's part of human nature and that fear itself is irrational.

[–]SmurfESmurfersonStacy’s Post-Wall Mom 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You don't have an issue with patients dying because medicine didn't bother to include both genders?

Not really because as I said medicine is improving and so is the tech. I mean we don't have the cure for cancer but we are making strides tho. We are also just starting to be able to reverse people who are disabled. Point is we are getting there its just going to take time.

[–]SmurfESmurfersonStacy’s Post-Wall Mom 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Many feminists would probably dispute the claim that women have equal rights. The left and the classical liberals fundamentally disagree on what constitutes a right. I believe in the right to autonomy as negative rights that the government may not violate, but many people on the left understand rights as things that the government must provide for its citizens. So, they will argue that there are rights to free abortion, free contraceptives, government-mandated maternity leave, etc.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

There's a crazy feminist on PPD that I was arguing with about this same thing. Her position was that if women are not being provided free abortions and contraceptives they are being oppressed by the patriarchy. I honestly can't wrap my head around it.

What law stipulates this right?

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I consider it socially responsible governance and harm minimalisation to provide free contraception and abortion, and affirmative action to subsidise maternity (and disability and long term illness) leave.

[–]purpleppparmchair evo psych 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm not a hardcore libertarian so I support free abortion because the state funds a more expensive option (childbirth) so it might as well fund a cheaper one. However, I don't consider it a right.

I oppose state-mandated maternity leave. If there was a low birth rate crisis and other solutions weren't available, I might support government-funded maternity leave. But I don't support the leftist notion that whatever the left thinks is good, the state must mandate it. There are hidden costs to state-mandated maternity leave on private companies. It distorts market forces. It could discourage companies from hiring women. Then, the left would fix that by making more regulations on hiring, etc. In the end, I don't believe you can enact a utopia through laws and regulations. There are unintended consequences.

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I would consider it sound economic management to have contraception and abortion available for free in order to prevent expensive, unwanted children. Access to safe and affordable contraception and abortion is a right. Access to them for free is an economic argument.

Feminism is about removing every possible restriction from the female sexual strategy while applying every imaginable restriction to the male strategy.

One of the most odious parts of this is when women start talking about their "rights" to "free" shit. Like the "right" to "free" baby murder, the "right" to "free" birth control, "free" baby sitting and edumacation for their kids, "free" food and EBT cards, "free" education, "free" paid maternity leave, etc etc. Nothing is free. Just because you call it free doesn't make it free. What they really want is male slaves to make them all this shit. So they want the "right" for one group of men to enslave another group of men to give them free resources.

I mean otherwise women's sexual strategy will be constrained by the man having to freely choose to give her his resources. Hence women's constant push for slavery. Though they will call it their "right" to "free" shit.

Women, pushing for slavery for at least two thousand five hundred years. You go girl!

Still I'll say that this is vastly overblown historically and now and that those women most likely not only deserved it but wanted it. I dated a girl once who kept trying to get me to beat her. I mean beat her not slap some sense into her or get rough during sex. I left her. She went and found a guy that would beat her.

Hilariously enough she tried to get back with me several years later. I read her Facebook. Lel she was huge man hating feminist.

It has not been about equal rights for a long time; the game is now equal outcomes. Take the gender wage gap as a for instance. If you take into account career and lifestyle choices the gap disappears, but feminists want to make a man's wage with a woman's lifestyle.

[–]meh613no pill anymore 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think you are confusing equality of opportunity, which does exist (on paper), and equality of outcome (which does not).

For example, there is nothing in law preventing a woman from winning the presidency of the United States, yet no woman has been. There's nothing in law preventing me from becoming pregnant, yet biology will take care of that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Feminists are lazy. So they fight for "equal rights" because they fail to accomplish what their male peers can. They use sexism as a scapegoat.

I am not a feminist and I don't believe that I am oppressed. I have never viewed myself as unequal or beneath men. I know when I am being lazy and I attribute my shortcomings to that, not "sexism".

And when you get the sack from your employer the moment you disclose pregnancy, you'd wear that?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

There are already laws against that...they were passed decades ago.

I don't believe that females are disadvantaged NOW. I think third wave feminism is a joke. Seriously, what other "rights" are women lacking at this point?

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You are assuming that employers are pretty stupid if you think they'd be blunt about it. Have you ever been in the workforce?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes.

What industry?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm an engineer in the biotech industry.

And what happens when senior management wants to performance manage someone out?

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

When men ask for reproductive rights they're told: hey women have the kids, that's biology. We can't use laws to make biology more fair. Suck it.

So I guess I'll give you the same answer.

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

And you're happy with both of those situations?

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I'd prefer going the other way. What about you: should we use the law to make biology more fair for everyone, even men?

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I have told you that I think parental surrender laws should apply to men, but within the same parameters as women, several times previously. I'm starting to think that you just have a victim complex.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

So you think men should be free to ditch their kids whenever without consulting the other parent?

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I don't think either parent should, and I have no idea where you've dragged that strawman from.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Because currently women, who are oppressed, have this right.

[–]wombatinaburrowfeminist marsupial 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

A woman has the right to randomly surrender her child against the wishes of the child's father? Where?

Understand that equal doesn't just exist in terms of the law. Modern western feminism is aimed towards how society still hold on to outdated ideas of women and how it's affecting girls.

Modern western feminism is aimed towards how society still hold on to outdated ideas of women and how it's affecting girls.

That is a very lazy way of thinking and thinking that way tends to be paranoid seeing a potential enemy in every male.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's only paranoid and lazy if you choose to view it like that

[–]DB605Everyone's a BlackPill in the end 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Such as?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

From a young age, girls have a particular pressure put on their looks rather than having skills or other interests

[–]DB605Everyone's a BlackPill in the end 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I would argue that women are getting the better end of the stick if you wanna make the (really bad) argument of "looks!", because not only do men have to look good, we have to dress well, and be talented, and have career prospects, and have other accouterments like an automobile and a lone apartment, and the hobbies and interests we do have, have to be only certain ones. Ie. women don't want dorks who paint model planes, they want athletes of some variety or the other.

All that's asked of women is that you look good.

How is this a demonstration of an inequality that benefits men?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That would imply that boys have the same pressure to look good as girls, which they don't.

[–]DB605Everyone's a BlackPill in the end 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To which I would suggest that if you actually believe that, you are out of touch with reality, or being incredibly solipsistic, ...or both.

Women have equals rights.

Bullshit
