Dating fucking sucks, everyone has had some awful experience along the way and I'd bet most of us have sworn off the opposite sex at some point in our frustrations. But everyone knows it's temporary, we get over whatever or whoever pissed us off, and we go out and try again.

But the rage on TRP and MGTOW and other subs like them is just so literal. Less "can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em" and more "women are biologically inferior to men and literally lack agency." the tone and groupthink there really encourages angry guys to up the ante and channel their temporary rage into permanent hate and delusion.

Yes, of course I can understand it. I don't know if I, personally, can relate to it per se, because I've never had any such feelings about "men in general."

It seems a lot of twerps have been burned, and burned bad. Of course that can lead to frustration. I don't think any bloops would even call that unhealthy or unrealistic.

I think the problem is when it shapes your whole worldview, and it becomes some all-consuming perspective that may or may not be truthful for individuals or even the majority of women.

It's simply easier to condemn an entire group of people rather than having to face your own flaws and your own failings.

Yeah, I relate to that sentiment and I relate to men who've been burned by women being like, "omgah women suck!"

But. The ranting on TRP is next level -- some of it borders on delusional. The tone is incredibly bitter, as opposed to lighthearted (what you linked to, for instance, isn't particularly bitter, imo). And the desire to use women as sex objects and nothing else in some weird, collective, misogynist revenge fantasy is...disturbing.

But yeah, absolutely, outside of TRP I totally relate to dudes being like, 'all women are bitches!' or whatever. It's not a nice sentiment and I usually point out that it's not nice a nice sentiment, but loooots of people are assholes and it's pretty understandable that someone come come to feel that way at one point or another.

I understand how both parties feel. Dating is frustrating and it can be easy to paint the other gender with the same brush. I understand the temptation to just decide the problem is everyone else, not you. Similarly, I understand how common it is to think you're living in the worst generation - this seems to be a pretty widespread sentiment behind TRP.

But like most things TRP, I think they've taken a common frustration to an outrageous extreme by crafting an entire ideology around it, rather than just sticking to Twitter jokes.

As a gay man who felt like men were generally awful when I was single I can relate somewhat to the feeling of frustration that comes about when you feel there's a fundamental incompatibility between you and members of your preferred sex.

It's worth being cautious about adopting that mindset though; once you internalize the idea that all/ the vast majority of X group are like that it's easy to stop giving them a chance to prove you wrong.

There is a huge difference between thinking "All (whatevers) are awful" in the moment, like after a bad breakup or something, versus holding that view generally in life. It's an irrational viewpoint.

Momentary irrationality in response to an overwhelming emotional event is one thing. Accepting that irrationality as part of life is a sign that there is something wrong with you. It's one of the things TRP accuses women of that they very much do themselves.

As a woman, I do not understand the sentiment in the quote. While it's true some men may have treated the person in an awful manner, it is simply not true that men (in general) are awful (in general). I hate sweeping generalizations.

No I can't understand it. A man can despise another man, but obviously he's not going to let some other man's words or actions reflect on himself in any way. They are different people, and it's easy to make that distinction when you're dealing with someone of the same gender as you. Just like it's easy to set yourself apart from other white people if you're white, other black people if you're black, etc.

Let's assume you're a legitimately racist, sexist white guy, and another white guy pisses you off in traffic. Your response is probably going to be something like "Dumbass", "Learn to drive, blockhead", whatever. It's not going to occur to you that his mistake reflected on his race or gender in any way; because you share these qualities with him.

Now let's say it's a black woman who did the same thing. Your insult, whether you shout it, think it, or mumble it under your breath, is probably going to be similar to the first one. Except you're likely going to include something about her race or gender. "Dumbass woman", "Fucking black people don't know how to drive", "Ugh, female drivers at it again", you get the picture.

We don't normally recognize negative behavioral patterns that would force us to view ourselves in a bad light. So I can't sympathize with people who are fine with pinning their negative views and experiences on an entire group of people. It doesn't take a lot of thinking to realize why that logic is flawed, it's just easier to not consider it.
