Honestly, it doesn't matter. Ultimately reddit will ban itself. In the long run, there is no way to monetize this place. The whole IAMA cluster fuck shows us what happens when they even think about it. Enjoy it while you can. In the end, it won't die because of politics--it will die because of money.

They've already got the narrative set with the NYT, Alexis already set the stage by blaming "haters" for Pao's departure. /r/theredpill is about sexual strategy, they won't make any charges stick.

Why would they ban TRP ? There are way worse subs. Look at this one : /r/rapingwomen.

I personally don't think they should ban any sub as long as they don't harass others. Even rapists should have their own space , it's not like they'll disappear if you ban them .

I think so one day. TRP probably doesn't deserve to be banned, but TBPers will convince the general community otherwise.

It'll just use that collection of quotes that they got out of context, that were sarcastic, or made by new accounts and use that as proof that TRP supports any forms of abuse against women.

I don't see why. We usually keep our pitchforks inside our own little community and aside from occasional accusations of brigading on both sides, I think the community polices itself fairly well.

llen was more or less inclined to continue upholding my free-speech policies. /r/fatpeoplehate was banned for inciting off-site harassment, not discussing fat-shaming. What all the white-power racist-sexist neckbeards don't understand is that with her at the head of the company, the company would be immune to accusations of promoting sexism and racism: she is literally Silicon Valley's #1 Feminist Hero, so any "SJWs" would have a hard time attacking the company for intentionally creating a bastion (heh) of sexist/racist content. She probably would have tolerated your existence so long as you didn't cause any problems - I know that her long-term strategies were to find ways to surface and publicize reddit's good parts - allowing the bad parts to exist but keeping them out of the spotlight. It would have been very principled - the CEO of reddit, who once sued her previous employer for sexual discrimination, upholds free speech and tolerates the ugly side of humanity because it is so important to maintaining a platform for open discourse. It would have been unassailable.

Well, now she's gone (you did it reddit!), and /u/spez has the moral authority as a co-founder to move ahead with the purge. We tried to let you govern yourselves and you failed, so now The Man is going to set some Rules. Admittedly, I can't say I'm terribly upset.

I found it fishy that they banned an entire sub because a minority of it's users harassed people. That is like incarcerating all of the black people in Detroit because one of them stole a bike.

I don't know. I was listening to the ReplyAll podcast yesterday, though, and they talked about a reddit alternative. This reddit alternative was explicitly free speech ("Voat is a censorship-free community platform based in Switzerland where content is submitted, organized, moderated and voted on (ranked) by the users."). They were basically positioning themselves to catch anyone who gets burned in any reddit crackdown, and it looks like they were running reddit's codebase (which I assume is open-source). If reddit decides to start banning (more) communities, they won't be gone from the internet.

My question is how can you have an open and honest discussion WITHOUT free speech, especially when someone starts being "open" and "honest" in a way you don't like and you censor them for it.

I don't think it will be banned in the first round of bans but I wouldn't be surprised if it is eventually banned once articles start being written in the national media about "the terrible subs still existing on Reddit." I think that all of this censorship is just capitalist whoring and, despite being anti-Red Pill, I have no problem with the existence of every Red Pill sub on here. We'll probably be hanging out on Purple Pill Debate on some other website someday, I'm guessing, as I doubt too many Red Pillers will be sticking around once their sub is gone.

I think that's something that often comes along when people really experience what "free speech" means. People idealize the concept as open, adult discourse, but the reality is that pedos right to share conquest stories falls under it, and terrorists can openly share means of getting around weapons bans, and so on. Taking at least a slightly more moderate view makes sense for a company.

I doubt it will be banned because it causes drama and gets people riled up. Which may sound bad at first, but if everyone on reddit agrees on everything then it will quickly become boring..
