I want to add some other advice that hasn't been shared yet, but I do recommend the following:

Eat healthy
Work out regularly
Cut out alcohol (limit it as much as possible)
No drugs (i.e. stop smoking)
Develop a good skincare routine

Retinol! It’s one of very few things proven to reduce and prevent wrinkles. It can be strong, so it’s good to gradually work up to it. I use Differin gel which does not require a prescription and is very affordable. Be sure to use sunscreen with it :)

-Vitamin C as ascorbic acid (can buy cheap from the ordinary) daily is clinically proven to increase collagen by 50% and prevent discolouration. You’ll notice a visible difference in 12 weeks.

-Retinol increases cell turnover naturally. Don’t use if pregnant or considering pregnancy soon.

-Keep moist using any of the 3 basic strategies or a combination:

Attract moisture with humectants (eg. Moisturizing toners as used in the Korean 7 skin method. Most common humectant is hyaluronic acid)
Moisturize with good moisturizer that nourishes skin
Seal in moisture and protect skin with emulsifiers like oil and zinc (there’s a cream from st Francis that’s zinc chamomile and affordable and WOW, it leaves my skin looking amazing.)

-Final and most important though is DIET. Your three pillars here are first: avoid vegetable oils, trans fats, heavily processed foods, refined sugar (and excess stress, alcohol, smoking, drugs) to the extent possible. Second, eat your collagen and fat soluble vitamins, especially vitamin A, this means bone broth, liver, eggs, all that good stuff! Third, antioxidants. That means lots of brightly coloured fruit and veggies.

Edit to add a few more I thought of:

-exfoliate. Your options are mechanical (aka rubbing dead skin off) or chemical (like a chemical peel, but there are gentle options you can use daily)

-exercise. Sweat! Frequently!

-take care of your hormones and digestion. Both impact your skin a lot!

Eat 95% whole foods diet
The Ordinary’s Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion, it’s a stronger yet more soothing version of retinol. It’s not allowed for sale in some countries because you need a prescription from a derm for such strength but it’s so gentle on the skin. I could have a pimple, put a drop on and the next day the area is completely smooth with no pigmentation! I can’t say enough good things
Wear SPF 30 on face, ears, neck, chest, anywhere that could be exposed. Even if it’s cloudy, even if you have dark skin (if you have dark skin the sun will actually exacerbate hyperpigmentation!).dont forget your hands!! Carry some with you in your purse for after you wash your hands
Take physical exfoliators (tiny grains etc) out of your routine. They’re harsh and outdated. A dead skin peeling gel as needed will do!
Rub an oil onto your face before you wash, it helps preserve your skins natural barriers
Have your blood tested and supplement accordingly
Take a daily hair skin and nails vitamin. As soon as I started taking Nature’s Bounty hair skin and nails multi vitamin tablets my skin became so much clearer + my hair and nails became stronger.
Get enough sleep
Drink lots of water

Three most important, basic things are: sunscreen/keeping out of the sun, hydration (moisturizing skin, drinking enough water, avoiding too much alcohol, etc.), and not smoking. Retinol is also definitely beneficial!

Haha that can be super hard .. the only thing I think works for me is to have a consistent bed time and wake up time schedule . It helps with your hormones or something . Or meditation ? My mom is almost 60 and she looks 40 , apart from good genes she is a super positive person , stress can really age you.

The only part of my routine I keep up with without fail is my application of sunscreen under my makeup every day, without fail. I use Supergoop sunscreen, although Korean products tend to be the most cosmetically elegant on the market right now.

Along with this, I'd recommend to stay faaar away from high coverage foundation if you're layering makeup over skincare products. In my experience, the more coverage the foundation offers, the more likely you're going to end up with visible patchiness and product clinging to weird places, making you actually look OLDER.

I use a BB cream or tinted moisturizer that also has SPF. I recommend Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream or Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel Cream for a much bigger shade range. The result is not going to cover your acne scars or anything, but you'll be more likely to be able to go all day without the look breaking down.

Some tips. Always remove all of your makeup before bed. Wash your face with a light cleanser. Use moisturizer every day and SPF. Exfoliate 1-2 times a week (following with moisturizer). You can develop your own skincare routine depending on your needs but those are just some basics that I follow. There are anti-aging serums and creams, especially for night-time. I also use an eye cream because that's my problem area (dark circles). I really like the PCA skin line although it is quite pricey.

If you start to see some lines you can go to a dermatologist and get some retinol cream with higher dosage. Otherwise there are many creams/serums that contain it in a lower level and should be just fine for now. If you have any skin conditions you should check if it's ok for you though.

Korean beauty.

They use the highest quality ingredients, come in adorable packaging & are very affordable. Watch some YouTube videos on the best ones for your skin type & purchase products according to that. Be consistent, that’s really the key.

If all else fails, keep your skin clean & moisturized. Make sure to drink lots of fruits & a healthy diet is essential to skin health. All I had to do to get rid of my acne was to quit processed sugar cold turkey & drink a gallon of water a day. I also take vitamin supplements for skin & overall health.

I take an oral collagen supplement every day and that has made a difference for me. As for topical stuff, check out products from The Ordinary/Deciem. They affordable clinical grade skincare. You do have to do reading on each product to find out what you need or you can purchase some kind of bundle. I use a lot of their serums, plus lactic acid, retinol, and some oils (rosehip seed is my favorite along with squalane but I have a couple of others).

I also wear a 50 spf every single day on all my exposed skin, even in winter, and I wear sunglasses with good protection when I go outside.

I'm a firm believer in treating your skin from the inside. I have spent so much time and money on expensive crap trying to treat my excema and hormonal acne, each treatment making the other worse. I stopped my birth control and my acne disappeared. I stopped buying trendy "k-beauty ~ anti-aging~ glass skin~ poreless" washes and masks and serums. I found one gentle moisturizer I like. I wear makeup a lot less, as there's less to cover up, and when I do, it has gentle ingredients that don't cause problems. I quit smoking and drink more water. I've always avoided the sun. I guess my point is, if something's not broke, don't fix it. If you are getting compliments on how young your skin looks, keep doing what you're doing (and of course use sunblock if you don't already). Most of the other stuff is just trendy marketing crap. Don't go crazy trying to prevent aging. Again take care of yourself (sunblock, don't smoke, eat healthy) but still prepare for the reality that your body will age. I have some family members who are 60-70 who are seriously distressed over their wrinkles. They look GREAT for their age, take care of themselves but are not aliens and so their skin has aged and they constantly talk about and research (and waste money on) gimmicky skin care to erase 40 years of life. It's really sad and a little annoying. Don't be that person desperately clinging to your youth or mourning it lol

Use a gentle cleanser, a hydrating serum/toner, and an occlusive moisturizer. Bonus points for one with peptides.

Use sunscreen of at least SPF 30 every day and reapply often. Sunscreen in makeup doesn't count. Bonus points if it's one with a PA++++ rating for UVA. Japanese sunscreens have excellent filters and cosmetic elegance. US sunscreens are generally subpar.

Use tretinoin (Retin-A or Curology), or adapalene (Differin) if you want an OTC option. Be patient and start with a small % but work your way up.

Those are the basics! Vitamin C can also be nice but there are very few products out there formulated correctly to keep it stable so don't waste your money without doing research.

Sun screen, moisturizer, exercise and diet are the main staples of effective skin care (in that order depending on how active your are outside).

The type of moisturizer and face wash you should use is entirely dependant on your skin type, so it's pretty much just a trial and error thing, but if you already have good skin with minimal effort then odds are that most facial products will only help you.

I’d also advise the more wholesome and global approach of keeping your skin cells younger.

Not even joking, exercise. Your actual biological age can increase or decrease by up to 20 years depending on how little of it you do. (genetics also play a role on the amplitude to either side)
