I have so many male friends who use this excuse for why they can’t do traditionally feminine but in reality basic adult skill household tasks, like cleaning the bathroom or washing the dishes. I have a male acquaintance who ate from styrofoam plates so he didn’t have to do dishes... the same guy who went vegetarian to reduce his carbon footprint. 😂

I know an adult man who did not clean a bathroom ever until he was 23 and who has trouble keeping roommates as a consequence. He got mad when I laughed at him over the phone for asking me what “clean the tiles” meant.

But here’s the kicker... absolutely none of these men can do traditional men’s work. I don’t see these guys fixing cars or budgeting wisely or building furniture. The men I know who CAN do the manly stuff are also competent in the “women’s work” areas.

One time I was preparing for a party and my friend arrived early as I was struggling to put the cover back on my large and fluffy duvet. He immediately jumped in to help, and he made my bed so beautifully and got the duvet in its cover in about 30 seconds, which is impressive. I asked him how he learned that and he said “all Latino guys are like this around the house. Our mothers raise us this way.”
