I'm Scottish and I can confirm that it's quite awful. When I wear a kilt sometimes GROWN women will ask if I'm wearing anything underneath. When I was younger I thought it was a joke but as I'm now older it feels weirder to be asked by adults and such what I'm wearing underneath. I can GUARANTEE you that if a grown man went to a 16 year old girl and asked 'are you wearing anything under there?' that would be a massive issue. But nooo not for me and my kilt. But hey I'm a guy who's very patriotic with my history. Guess I gotta deal with the casual perverted questions

There is a trend that I noticed, the "Objectiying men is good" trend along with the domonization of male sexuality and glorification of female sexuality. This trend is mostly pushed by feminists in the name of female sexual liberation and something about punching up. But what happens when men get objectified ? In terms of people getting grabby, has happened a couple of times from drunk women. But is rare for a regular person. I suspect pipers etc are occupying that strange “famous and anonymous” space where people think they can be much more familiar.

I used to love wearing my Kilt but it's too much hassle now because they will just lie and say you flashed them, this happened to a friend of mine and the only reason he didn't get charged was they told the police he wasn't wearing underwear when in fact he was wearing boxers all the women got was a telling off from the police.

My wife is not comfortable with me wearing a kilt in public due to all the catcall/staring at the bulge attention I get from other women. Honestly I’m tired of it as well. Kilts are fucking comfortable as hell but the moment you step outside women objectify you like you wouldn’t believe. As if I’m some panel in a porn mag to stare at. When I was a kid my parents took me to Disney world and there was a bag piper. Honestly, as a frequent kilt wearer, it does get tiresome. I've not been groped a whole lot, and the times I have been were consensual. I have been asked to flash many a time.

But, I have been asked plenty if I'm going "regimental" a long with other questions about my undergarments. And to answer that question, it depends on the situation and the place if I'm wearing anything other than, "your mother's/wife's lipstick", "boots/shoes and socks", "nothing worn, it's all in good working order", or "naught but what God graced me with at birth".

As a man, supposedly I'm not allowed to complain, and take it all good naturedly. But I do try to point out the double standard and let others know when the attention isn't wanted.

As someone who was born in Scotland who has lived in Scotland for almost 26 years, this is heartbreaking. All I can say is:

Fuck sake Scotland, get your shit together.
For any man out there who has experienced this or things tantamount to this, I am truly sorry. You don't deserve this. No one deserves this. It's fucking abhorrent that it is 2021 and this kind of shit is being ignored or perpetuated simply on the premise of the fact that you are male and are therefore expected to "man up" or "take it like a man".

The thing I find the most sickeningly ironic about this is the fact that while many feminists claim to want equality, they conveniently ignore it as far as men are concerned. Men are sidelined and told "boys don't cry". I have been silenced by feminists simply for acknowledging the existence of the male suicide rate and the existence of male victims of rape/sexual assault/domestic violence. They don't understand that by pushing this narrative, they are pushing the very agenda they claim to be fighting against - institutionalised sexism. This is not only despicable, but downright hypocritical.

I fear misandry is becoming the norm in Scotland.

My thoughts and my heart go with you. Truly saddening is the state of this country.

I’m not sure how culturally ingrained it is in Scotland to check under the kilt, but this story reminds me of “The Drunken Scotsman” where two girls come upon a passed out drunk man wearing a kilt, check if he’s wearing underwear, then tie a bow around his twig and berries. Idk if this is a traditional song but it points to this being a long standing issue. Can’t even begin to understand how frustrating and horrible that situation described above and in comments would be. It’s not like you can just go punching someone for that, unlike a woman who can slap a man in public with no repercussions. Maybe put a mousetrap under there for the next set of wandering fingers (lol totally not feasible I know).

I've got a Scottish friend who on very rare occasions wears a kilt. I don't think I have ever asked him anything about his underwear and it is not the sort of thing that I'd do because it would be plain weird behaviour and to be honest I never really cared.

I am sure that if we were out drinking and I asked he would be Ok with it as we do joke about all sort of things but he would not mind because we are friends and we are both men. It would be a completely different matter if a woman he doesn't know asked him something like that.

I cannot imagine asking a woman whether she is wearing underwear! I'd be called a pervert and possibly reported for sexual harassment.
