Not only does society not acknowledge the importance of fathers but the legal system actively seeks to remove them. Males get higher sentences for the same crime, are assumed the perpetrator in domestic disputes, and of course there is the entire custody bias thing

Father are usually more strict. They instill heavy discipline at a young age. Without them the child may feel they have complete freedom to do whatever they want without any consequences

Hold women more accountable and you will see less “accidental” pregnancies.

While I celebrate the intent, to promote fathers, this line of argumentation bothers me a bit because it appears to confuse correlation and causation. It stands to reason that fatherlessness is more prevalent among the less fortunate segments of society, where of course the kinds of problems cited are more common. I am also keen not to return to a world where "voluntary" (non-widowed) single mothers (and I guess fathers) face broad censure in society - their situations may be unfortunate, but their efforts nonetheless important. We should not let overzealousness on the left blind us to this reality.

Does anyone know of a study that attempts to disaggregate to which extent fatherlessness is a symptom and to which extent a causal factor? Ideally one without strong ties to, say, a gender studies department or for that matter a socially conservative think tank?

I just wish the world would just understand that stereotypes are out of style. It's not a debate. No, that father hanging out with his son at the park isn't a pedophile. His wife just died. Both patents are needed in the fight for a better life, and no one or the other should be counted as more important!

My father was the worst men i've ever knew. He would cheat on my mother and would not care about me. Should i still be thinking that it's bad that i didn't knew him that much? No. He was and still is the terrible father. But my mom did not gave up and she was able to raise me (7 months old at the time my father left) and my brother (7 years old when he left) She is the most wonderful caring and understanding person i've ever knew. She understood me when i told her that i don't believe in god and she understood many other things that nobody could. My father? He doesn't know that i play guitar or what i like, he lives in another country and drive to see me like once every 3 years, he isn't even sure how old i am!!! He is irresponsible.

Sure, having 'full' family is better in most situations but sometimes having a father can be worst than not... So please don't say that i or any kid growing without father is worst. I am really sad when people think that i will grow to be a criminal or that i will be some kind of bad kid/bully/depressed just becouse of my situation. Think about this next time you see post like this becouse it's really offensive and kids without father seeing post like this may think that they are weird or bad becouse of their dad.

Isn't that because people who can't grasp commitment are also of low intelligence? What if it's bad genes, not lack of fathers? I've never seen evidence directly linking single motherhood and future life outcomes, it is just a correlation.
