The girl's father, Ryan Hyer, told the judge: "Every time I see a patrol car, I see Cheyenne gasping for air."

The statement breaks my heart, but I am at least rejoiced that she received an adequate sentence and has to live with the guilt and shame for the rest of her life.

[–]ApeGoesBananas 514 points515 points516 points 7 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

She left her kid alone to go fuck her boss, do you think she has any idea what guilt and shame are?

[–]commanderchris 144 points145 points146 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

And if not mistaken, she did something identical or extremely similar some years before. So I agree, there's no way she's got ethics under her belt.

I can tell you what she does have under her belt

[–]Franfran2424 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Correct. She left her and was investigated but the charge was dropped and they didn't tell the father.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is this new info? Original article I read said she got in trouble and it was on record and all, just that the dad had not been told.

Not that it makes a lick of difference, just curious since that's so much worse. Ought to investigate the DA/ADA who dropped it. I know it's their discretion but I feel like dropping obviously deserved charges on cops ought to go on a DA's record and too many instances and you find a new job unless there really is good reason to decline to prosecute.

This fraternity shit has to end, it's destroying law enforcement from the inside out. Most cops aren't horrid people but this setup with no one being able to call out bad apples or they get ran out, harrassed, etc. or if they quit their adding to the issue, but if they stay and try to survive in it by keeping quiet and being a decent cop they are complicit.

Not that they aren't, in that way, but it really is a lose/lose/lose for most cops to speak out.

Anyways, there's nothing about being a cop that mitigates leaving a kid in a car so why would they be dropped? Fuck that. It cost a kid their life, not making sure the dad knew and pressing charges properly.

[–]Blackfysh88 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Any tears she cried were for getting caught, not what she did.

[–][deleted] 108 points109 points110 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 51 points52 points53 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 56 points57 points58 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

She is getting an adequate sentence but you have no idea if she actually feels guilt or shame.

My guess is she feels inconvenienced by this whole thing at worst.

[–]totallythebadguy 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sadly we didn't even bother charging a father who killed his kid the same way here in Ontario. Just let him go without even a trial. They said he suffered enough.

[–]Franfran2424 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This woman elft this children on the car before. The father wasn't told about it then.

Now it happened again while she was having sex with a superior (prosecuted). She deserves it.

[+]letouriste1 -341 points-340 points-339 points 7 years ago* (140 children) | Copy Link

the death of her child is already an adequate sentence.

the girl died because her mother fell asleep and the car air conditioner was malfonctioning...i find the sentence too harsh

edit: i will copy the answer i did to duckduckgoit and stop answering after that, gods you guys are salty.

"how is this justifying? i agreed she should be in jail for that, just not as long. sigh...i'm done, i already spent too much time on this. you people are too much.

i'm not here to hate on women but because i want a more equal justice on some issues, and i genuinely found the sentence was too heavy (would have thought the same if that was a dude)...until ONE comment talking about others sentences she received piror to this. nearly got drowned in all your bitching about a mere opinion (and insult, lot of insults totally undeserved).

i'm already convinced the judgment was fair and she deserved every second of the 20 years.

all of you salty guys should really calm the fuck down and stop insulting so easily, i was just wondering how 20 years was fair and got an answer. if you are just here to insult women or anyone genuinely TRYING to get things better then you should not be on this sub. you guys don't understand what pussypassdenied is all about...or maybe that's me. i'm just not the hating kind of guy:/"

[–]Unreasonably_Manic 233 points234 points235 points 7 years ago (81 children) | Copy Link

Oh shit guys, we forgot that falling asleep after cheating on your husband with your boss while your infantile child is in the car alone dying because your shitty car has shitty air conditioning is not her fault at all. What were we thinking!?

/s

[+]letouriste1 -237 points-236 points-235 points 7 years ago (80 children) | Copy Link

yeah sure, she is the devil because she cheated on her husband! you don't even know anything about him or her personal life and decide to judge her anyway:/

her life is already broken because of her likely huge guilt about this event. this is her fault and responsability to carry the sin forever. 20 years tho? most rapists don't even get half that. why not send her to the chair if you are so eager? sigh...

[–]Unreasonably_Manic 99 points100 points101 points 7 years ago (40 children) | Copy Link

So what? You want her to walk free? Negligence is no excuse, and neither is guilt. Should murderers who are guilty all walk free because they feel bad? She committed a crime, now she’s gonna serve her time. And you’re right, I don’t know her. Does that somehow mean she didn’t kill her kid?

[–]sodium-hydroxid3 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What ted bundy? Your sorry? Ok feel free to rape more women /s

[+]Alysana -118 points-117 points-116 points 7 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link

There is a big difference between a murderer killing someone else, and the mother incidently killing her own child. The guilt will be a severe enough punishment. Vengeance and justice are two very different things, and you obviously want the former.

[–]philbertgodphry 65 points66 points67 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Are you aware this is the SECOND TIME she’s done this?! And this wasn’t an “oops I ran in to the grocery store and forgot my baby” kind of thing, she left the child in there intentionally so she could have sex, do drugs and take a nap. It’s ok though, she’s pregnant again! One more life she can destroy 👍🏻

[+]Alysana -108 points-107 points-106 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Male cops shooting random Black dudes get off the hook, murderers get fewer years in jail. 👍

[+]philbertgodphry1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Which is a gross injustice. If you kill a human, you should be removed from society.

[–]Saint-Kek 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree, self defense is bullshit. You should never try and defend your life, and if you do, and kill someone in the process, you should be removed from society. Next time try to negociate with the methhead trying to stab you in the liver.

[–]Unreasonably_Manic 31 points32 points33 points 7 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Lmao, ok. So you think justice is her not being punished? You’re delusional if you think criminals should not punished for their crimes. Especially one that heinous. You’re trying to tell me vengeance is being punished to the extent of the law. That’s called justice, you fucking baby killer apologist.

[–]Fat_Beet 33 points34 points35 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

How in the fuck are there multiple people defending this fucking pond scum. "Ohh think of the poor ladys feelings" how about the the fucking husband? This boggles my mind.

Because she’s attractive

[–]orcscorper 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

She's a solid three, otherwise known as a seven in Mississippi, because she's not obese. She looks more meth-skinny than fit-skinny to me.

[+]WolfCola41 points 7 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

No man, you need to take a step back and view this objectively for a minute. Obviously, nobody wants babies to die. But can you not see both sides of the coin on this? If she left the courtroom without spending 20 years in prison, do you imagine she would be spending that time partying and killing other babies? Of course not. This person is now permanently broken with only themselves to blame. There should be some sort of fixed penalty for sure, but like the other guy said, 20 years is mental considering murderers and rapists often get less than half of that

[–]CIarence 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She IS a murderer. Sometimes they even get more than 20 years.

[+]Alysana -48 points-47 points-46 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

No but what is the point of completely shattering the soul of said person? You might as well send her to the chair. I guess this is why theres such a huge difference between American prisons and Scandivanian prisons. In our countries justice will be served meanwhile trying to maintain the person from completely breaking, so said person can start a life after the sentence.

[–]NotThatEasily 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then what you're talking about is prisoner reform, which isn't the topic of discussion here. A person locked their child in a car for several hours while having sex and taking a nap. Their criminal negligence led to the death of a child. It doesn't matter the gender of the offender. They caused a child to die through their actions. This deserves prison.

[–]Unreasonably_Manic 29 points30 points31 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You seem to be confused. All I’m advocating for is her to be punished to the extent of the law, and anyone who wants more or less needs to realize that the law doesn’t bend for your personal beliefs. She broke the law, and I want her punished for it. Please describe what is unreasonable with that.

[+]Alysana -8 points-7 points-6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because 20 years is laughable compared to what other people get? Im not saying she should walk free, but the guilt + 20 years is INSANE. She will be a psycobitch unable to maintain a proper life after her sentence is done. What is the point then? Is that really “justice” in your eyes? Imagine how fucking long 20 years is.

[+]potatos_4life -23 points-22 points-21 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Dude this is r/pussypassdenied these people are cold...

[–]Saint-Kek 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I know right? The real victim in this case is this woman who left her kid to die while she was fucking her boss and sleeping. No one stops to think how bad she must feel about it. She needs therapy and rest, not prison.

[–]PersonBehindAScreen 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Franfran2424 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

First time this was posted around a month ago after it happened and hit r/news

[–]Leave_em_leakin 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You’re an absolutely terrible person. No one cares about her personal life. Yes we are judging her. The mistake of forgetting your child in the car is a mistake you need to be punished for. She cheated on her husband and forgot to go back to her child. That should’ve been the first thing on her mind after cheating on her husband. Lots of people carry guilt, it’s a direct result of poor actions. You need to learn from your mistakes and honestly 20 years seems just about right.

[–]Franfran2424 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She left this child in the past in the same conditions too, was investigated but they decided not to tell the father.

[–]Preoximerianas 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe if they told the father the girl would be alive today.

[–]Franfran2424 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe. Probably she would have been more careful.

[–]Mr-Mans 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are defending this woman so hard it is as though you killed the kid and feel bad she is taking the blame like chill the fuck out she didn't just forget to pack a lunch she made decisions that led to her daughter's demise..

[–]ProbablyANoobYo 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m totally fine with sending her to the chair. She was negligent with the life of her own child on multiple recorded occasions and this eventually resulted in her child’s death.

And she’s a police officer. She absolutely understood the risks she took. There was no ignorance here. She’s supposed to be an example of the best of her community.

[–]uberduger 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She left her kid alone for hours. If it was 30 minutes it might be different. But even if 4 hours is a lie / exaggeration, still sounds like it was far longer than a "shit, I've only got a few minutes here, my daughter's in the car too!".

You shouldn't feel in any way bad for her.

[–]Spooky2000 27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

20 years tho? most rapists don't even get half that.

Most rapists don't kill people either. She KNOWINGLY left her daughter in a car.

[–]CIarence 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]ApeGoesBananas 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

> yeah sure, she is the devil because she cheated on her husband! you don't even know anything about him or her personal life

You do not have to. If you are unhappy with your marriage/relationship you leave or try and fix things, not cheat. If you cheat you are a whore. No excuse for cheating, ever.

[–]Franfran2424 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The parents had divorced before actually. The first time she left the child in the car she was told, investigated, and suspended some days, but they didn't tell the father to avoid him taking the children away just because it happened once.

Then it happened again, with air conditioner pulling hot air (broken), on the patrol car, while she fucked his superior and she didn't check on her for hours.

It's horrible.

[–]FlashOfTheBlade77 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Milkjug05 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You must be a dense banana if you believe in what you just wrote. There is no excuse of cheating. When you are married, you pledge loyalty to each other, as in BOTH PARTIES. She broke that bond to fuck someone else, she definitely is the devil. As well as that, her acts of infidelity led to the death of her child. Fuck outta here with your pussy pass bullshit. AND you are comparing the crime of borderline murder to rape? Really? Jesus Christ, you are what is wrong with this world.

Your judging her yourself, making assumptions that she's got 'huge guilt'. She should have learnt from the first time she left the kid alone in a car.

[–]Cias 43 points44 points45 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I find it not harsh enough. She should have gotten life. She basically killed a 3 year old girl because she couldn't keep her pants on.

[+]letouriste1 -19 points-18 points-17 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

life sentence because of a mistake? a very very huge one, yes but she didn't kill her child with her hand:/ she just forgot/fell asleep. you give life sentence to remove dangerous people from society, not for something anyone could do on a very bad day (ok, not anyone but still )

[–]Cias 21 points22 points23 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Her actions caused a 3 year old to die. If you fall asleep at the wheel, crash into a car, kill the other people in the car... Is that not killing them?

She should be locked up til she dies for taking the life of a child.

[–]letouriste1 -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

but you don't send people to prison if they have a car accident...

i mean, most of the time.

if, while you drive with a child is in the backseat (or wherever you are meant to place a child in your car), you are run over by a truck and somehow survive, i don't see why you would be sent to JAIL for LIFE.

[–]Cias 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are you seriously comparing a truck hitting a mother and daughter with no control by the mother, to the mother leaving a 3 year old in a car of over a hundred degrees for 4 FUCKING HOURS so she could go bang the boss the same thing?

It’s parenting 101 not to leave your kid in a car. I’m a 19 year old kid, and I’ve known this for as long as I can remember.

Hell, it’s having a pet 101 that you shouldn’t leave a pet in a car.

At the very least, it’s neglect and extreme stupidity

[+]UncannyMachina -29 points-28 points-27 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I’m a 19 year old kid

Sure you are...

No 19 year old refers to themselves as "kid". They think they are grown a minute past 18.

[–]Walshy231231 18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not all of us fit the stereotype

I don’t know how to do my taxes, I don’t have a house, and my job is mostly just a resume builder. I’m adult enough in many ways I think, but I will admit I lack experience.

[–]UncannyMachina -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[+]UncannyMachina -11 points-10 points-9 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yup, yes I do. They usually think they're grown and you can't tell them anything. Also around the time they start reminding you they are an adult and make their own decisions.

[–]ApeGoesBananas 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Usually, yes. But plenty of them are childish (in a good way) and do not throw the "adult" card around all the time.

[–]UncannyMachina -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm sure there are but plenty do.

I'm actually of the opinion that they are so much still kids that they shouldn't be able to join the military in a combat capacity or do porn till they are 21. You need some time after highschool to get your head right before making life changing decisions.

Are you brain dead. That childs life if she lived would have been at least 60 or 70 plus yrs... All she could have ever done, all that she could ever have been. That childs children and their children wiped out so she could go be a cheating pos and you think 20 yrs isn't enough. How about spending closer to the amount of time that that child would have lived a fulfilling life. Your line of thinking makes absolutely zero sense.

[–]Spooky2000 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fuck that noise. Lock her in a hot car in Mississippi for 4 hours. That is adequate punishment.

[–]Preoximerianas 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

5 to 7 years maximum for neglecting and killing a child? Jesus.

[–]letouriste1 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i changed my mind after learning more about her case. this is not a one time atrocious mistake and i really wished i had access to more info about her at the time i posted this comment. i don't know about your country but many ones do not give long jail sentence easily. a case like this one, if she has never done any crime before then would actually give her less than 7 years sometimes. there is no ill will after all, ''just'' neglect. i'm not a lawyer so i could be completely wrong tho, and i guess things would depend heavily on the jury and if she looks broken down or not by the death. like some said, this is a recipe to a pussypass. She could even avoid the prison altogether if she use her cards right

[–]rrogersca 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]letouriste1 -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

how is this justifying? i agreed she should be in jail for that, just not as long. sigh...i'm done, i already spent too much time on this. you people are too much.

i'm not here to hate on women but because i want a more equal justice on some issues, and i genuinely found the sentence was too heavy (would have thought the same if that was a dude)...until ONE comment talking about others sentences she received piror to this. nearly got drowned in all your bitching about a mere opinion (and insult, lot of insults totally undeserved).

i'm already convinced the judgment was fair and she deserved every second of the 20 years.

all of you salty guys should really calm the fuck down and stop insulting so easily, i was just wondering how 20 years was fair and got an answer. if you are just here to insult women or anyone genuinely TRYING to get things better then you should not be on this sub. you guys don't understand what pussypassdenied is all about...or maybe that's me. i'm just not the hating kind of guy:/

[–]duckduckgoit 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why you trying to be a victim now? You were saying she deserved less because lapses in judgement happen. Nobody mentioned hating on women in general or anything else your tiradementioned. She had done it before.

The mother had left her daughter alone in a car at least once before, at a store in nearby Gulfport in April 2015. Police responded and child welfare officials took temporary custody of the girl at the time. Barker was suspended from the Long Beach police for a week without pay.

She left the kid when it was probably around 2 years old at that time.

Anything short of the death penalty do murdering an innocent child is unacceptable. This is unforgivable.

Leaving a child in a car for more than 5 minutes is a deliberate choice. There’s no special circumstances that allow for it. It’s murder.

"I can appreciate you loved the child, but you left the child - your own flesh and blood - in a car while you went into the air-conditioned house while you had sexual relations," Judge Larry Bourgeois told a pregnant Barker as he sentenced her on Monday.

WTF! She’s pregnant?!? I am guessing with the other cops child. This story is all kinds of messed up. Honestly she should be locked away for longer than 20 years. I saw this story a few weeks ago and was waiting to see an update about the sentence from the judge. I guess 20 years is more than expected given what the judge said and the fact she was a cop. Such a sad and senseless loss of life. That poor father. I cannot imagine being in that position.

[–]SleazyMak 21 points22 points23 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Dude when I first saw this story I was fully prepared to be disappointed by her punishment. People were already saying the death of her child is enough punishment. Fuck that she’s literally been caught making this exact mistake before.

Go judge! Now I only hope there’s no chance of parole.

[–]MummyManDan 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People who say “ the death of her child is punishment enough “ are fuckin stupid. She doesn’t give a shit and a couple decades in the slammer just might get her to change, but I doubt it. [–]HalfSoul30 75 points76 points77 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

20 years is quite a long time in jail. And im sure it can't be too cozy in there for a ex cop that let her kid die.

Seg ain't a good time at all. There's a reason most inmates are willing to at least try gen pop, despite rival gang affiliations, sex offenses, notoriety of offense, etc... Imagine being on seg for give or take 10 years, assuming she will get parole, where you could only leave your cell for, at most, 2 hours a day (most prisons 1 hour) where you get to walk in a slightly bigger cell that may or may not have access to fresh air. Sounds like hell; definately not a cake wall.

[–]DiamondxCrafting 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I have a question, is giving something dangerous to your child that ends up killing them also accidental manslaughter? An idiot gives a baby a knife to play with, that's still accidental manslaughter, right?

[–]Newphonewhodiss9 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would assume so a quick google search shows that babies who die in an extremely neglected house, the judge usually attributes an action to the cause of death.

A couple in my state just got manslaughter for starving their child. But it was ruled the parents locking the child in the room was what killed him so manslaughter.

Key thing being able to prove they gave the kid the knife w/o someone incriminating themself.

It would be very easy to say the baby climbed on something and pulled it from a drawer. And it would be hard to prove otherwise.

Looking at previous cases though the police do tend to make more of a fuss when babies effectively commit suicide.

So I really don’t know.

[–]mostimprovedpatient 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You realize you just made the argument for why it was considered accidental right?

[–]ConciselyVerbose 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What would happen to your life if you were put in prison for 20 years?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

You initially phrased the question in such a way that you implied 20 years is adequate punishment for such a crime because 20 years in prison sucks for anyone. Yeah no shit 20 years in prison will ruin your life, but at least you still have a life after that. I'm just saying that more prison time would be justified for murdering a little girl. Not sure why you seem to disagree with that.

Yeah. I’m pretty mental. Good thing I can’t make any decisions lol.

Just hearing crap like this case makes it feel like they get off way too easy. Like there was once case where both husband and wife left their kid strapped in a high chair for a long period of time. Kid died in the chair in the diaper of their own feces.

Parents got off way too easy in my opinion. But I’m not a judge and we are supposed to trust our justice system that we as society put in place. Just learning to accept the system and their decision is difficult at times.

“A forensic entomologist studied the maggots to determine that Sterling had not been removed from the baby swing for more than a week and that he had not had a diaper change or bath in that time, court records show.

The State Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, and the cause of death was failure to provide critical care.”

But where is the proof that a man in the exact same situation would get a longer sentance? There is nothing in the article stating that. Sure in general women get shorter sentences we know that. Pussypassdenied is supposed to be stories where a female gets their ‘comeuppance’ despite an expected pass because the types of privileges their gender typically enjoys in society......

Not just when any sort of justice is handed out to a person who happens to be female.

I don't believe you think the child's death is a tragedy. Otherwise, you wouldn't be saying " I thought this story was even worse than it actually is."

A 3 year old died because of this slut fucking her supervisor, undoubtedly to gain favor in her career and that's somehow not bad enough? This is literally the worst possible outcome from this situation for her daughter, but the article somehow made it out to be worse?

[–]Harregarre 17 points18 points19 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Which part is sexist? The only sex in this story that's relevant is the sex that was being had while the child was left alone in a car. I'm honestly curious which part you find sexist.

[+]kylorensgrandfather1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

If a man did the same thing, they’d also get jailed. But nothing related to using a sex as an excuse is involved.

[–]VenomousDecision 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's the very idea of the subreddit.

"If a man did the same thing, they'd also get jailed."

The point of this subreddit is to highlight situations where women are receiving the same punishment a man would.

Her being a female is not being used as an excuse, absolutely correct. And that's why it's here.

[–]kylorensgrandfather1 points 7 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I’m saying she would never have a pass for this.

[–]VenomousDecision 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Perhaps. But it seems otherwise.

If you look at the comments, there are multiple others saying she should have gotten a lesser sentence, the death of her child is punishment enough, etc.

And as you said, a man would receive the punishment as she received here of 20 years. So why is it that so many other people believe that this woman should have a lesser sentence?

I have a hard time believing there would be as much sympathy for a man cheating on his wife and killing their child in the process.

[–]ApeGoesBananas 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

sigh:/ i'm into this sub since months by now and agree with some of it (the rest is just hating on women and don't really fit with me).

i don't appreciate how quick you are to insult a stranger:/ you must be a fun guy...

also, the sentence could actually be way lighter on a man, just because a woman get a big sentence don't make it a pussypassdenied, i disagree totally with you. you need a real injustice between men/women to get a pussypassdenied, here this is not about gender at all.

Maybe you aren't from the US, but women get WAY WAY WAY more lenient sentences on average than men for equal crimes. This sub sees the 20 year sentence as equal to what a man would have received. Thus PussyPassDenied

since when this sub is about the USA? yeah, i'm not from there. so what? i think a man would have received way less than 20 years for this horror. so this would be the contrary of a pussypassdenied IF we didn't learn from a few rare comments that was not the first charge of bad treatment toward children.

The law is quite clear, the crime to let a kid die in your car is not worth 20 years if not planned/done volontarily.

well, my country law. not sure about the USA, you guys go hard in sentences. life prison sentences for selling barely no pot is somehow considered fair over there...

[–]CIarence 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think a man would get an equally harsh sentence and probably be vilified socially more than her. For example, I doubt there would be an equivalent to you in this thread if it were a man.

IMO drug laws have been insane in the US. They are beginning to decriminalize though so that’s good. Btw you never got a life sentence for “selling barely no pot.”

well, i disagree. there is some feminists with sense who would defend such a man (if somehow worthy of it).

probably. i don't read such posts so i could just be optimistic about it:/

anyway i stopped defending her when i learned more about her

yeah, sorry i meant 20 years xD

you're right tho, things seems to change about it...slowly. many people are still in prison for such things. people who should not really be in it long term.

She’s gotten her kid taken away before for leaving the kid in her car. This isn’t a one time fuckup, this is a disregard for her child’s life. Also, there is no excuse for cheating. Just break up with someone or keep your genitals in your pants

[–]ApeGoesBananas 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

> we judge people on cheating now?

Oh, of course not! Why would we? Cheating is good and natural, and totally not for pieces of shit only /s

[–]CIarence 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes I think cheaters are scum. You don't?

[–]letouriste1 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i'm a grown up. you don't?

jokes aside, the act of cheating is controversial because you can't always control the need to. If you have a loving husband/wife then cheating is atrocious. the one being tempted should have talked about it before then etc... maybe something could be done.

In many cases tho, cheating is just the result of bad treatment from your other half. Could be because he/she is turning toward extremism, because he/she doesn't think about him/her too much even if married/in couple since some time, because of many stuff. Hell, would you really hate a woman cheating on a husband who beat her (or the reverse, a husband cheating while being treated like shit by his wife)

In some case, cheating is understood and forgiven (by friends, family or even sometimes by the other half!)

Real life is do not allow clear cut things like "all cheaters are scums"

People are allowed to leave a relationship.

[–]letouriste1 -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yeah but relationships can be complicated. if you just don't dare tell how you feel then you are the one at fault and cheating is really...BAD.

sometimes leaving a relationship is easier to say than actually doing. Some people are clingy, pitiful, violent, manipulator etc...

You can only really judge case by case

This is the second time she's been caught doing this. She obviously doesn't care.

[–]Harregarre 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I agree it's not PPD, unless it's common for mothers to get lower sentences for murder of children than fathers. Don't have the stats for that. Her feeling like hell shouldn't influence the decision though. A serial rapist isn't going to get a lighter sentence because he regrets his decisions either.

[–]letouriste1 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

but they do. say you are feeling regret in court and you could avoid the worse sentence. regret is very important

[–]Harregarre 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You feel regret because you want to avoid the worst sentence, or you feel regret because you actually regret the outcome of your actions? Those two are entirely separate things morally.
