Even tho traditionally the reason for that is what she said herself, yard work involves more heavy lifting so it makes sense for the men to do it. I mentioned bringing in the coal was a man's job in our house (single mother and 2 sisters) a couple of weeks after my sister said it herself and oh man did I open Pandora box that day. That same sister ate me for it. Even tho I was the only man in the house at the time and the only one to ever bring in the coal.

That was years ago and funnily enough a couple weeks ago she came into my room and woke me up to ask me to get the coal regardless of all the women in the house

So I've been hit by women many times. I have various opinions about them. The one that stands out needs a little preface. It was 2012, I was 20 she was 18. So we were both young and we both admit we were dumb at that age. So her and I dated for 9 months before thos happened. At first it was great, then riddled with insecurities and fighting and eventually we broke up. Throughout this whole relationship we never once hit each other. A few months go by and we are still talking and occasionally we get drunk, meet up and hook up. We do this one night and I get a little too drunk and I forget that me and this girls relationship was pretty toxic and I drunkenly ask her to be mine again. So we habe a great time, go to my place, pound one out and pass out. The next morning I wake up, hung over as piss and go lay on the couch in my garage to smoke a cigarette and try to feel human again. She came into the garage shortly after and we started talking and at some point I tell her, "last night was a mistake, we can't be together." That tore this girls world apart. For weeks, months beforehand she had been trying to work things out. She wanted to be back together. She wanted to change. Me, being an ignorant 20 y/o wasn't interested in getting back together and just kept going along with it to keep getting laid. She punched me multiple times in the face and clawed at me. I had a busted lip and some bruising from it, girl can hit and I was VERY hungover and unable to defend myself. She left, we never got back together. My roomates called the police but I didn't want to press charges.

Did I deserve it?

There's really no good argument, you can say "men are typically stronger than women" but I've met women that can beat the shit out of me. From what I could gather from her incoherent drunken rage over the phone, she was upset that I didn't like Sublime. This was not news to her, she had known this for a good 13 years by this point. She just decided that meatloaf night was the night I must pay.

speaking of double standards, I was watching an episode of "Snapped" tonight this woman executed her husband in coldblood, shot him in the back of the head... while he was sitting in the backseat of his SUV.. this was some months after he received $600,000 from a lawsuit... they eventually had evidence that pointed to her, they confronted her and she admitted it but said he abused her and it was in self defense(which wasnt true as she shot him in the back of the head). They took her to court... than after the jury deliberated for a few days they gave her a plea deal of voluntary manslaughter and a 10 year sentence... HOW FUCKED IS THAT??? shoot someone in the back of the head and admit to it and she gets 10 years... he didnt even see it coming... so sad, just one second, lights out... All because shes a greedy asshole who wanted to break up with him but wanted the money...

Not an excuse I've heard, but really, it depends on the situation and relationship. Obviously it's never ok to beat or abuse your SO (male, female, other) but some cases it's not even close to abusive or disrespect. For example, my SO and I are kinda rough and mess around and wrestle all the time, so if either one "hits" the other, we know it's just joking around. But we also agreed when we first started dating that if one of us tried actually hitting and abusing the other, the other person is gonna hit back just as hard.

TLDR; if both parties know the limits and are ok, it's fine, but if there's actual abuse from either side, the victim should fight back just as hard

Raised by a single woman I was never told anything about this growing up.

But, as I got older a few women have been mad and hit me and a few playful.

Even the angry one made me laugh because it was a slug in the arm that hurt a lot less than when my 11 year old brother and I used to have charlie contests.

When I left my first wife after she cheated multiple times though she begged me to stay and then became angry and started cutting me with a box cutter. I slapped her so hard that I broke her eardrum to get away.

Later though the cops told me all about how bad I was for doing that. Stitches and all they said I should have run away.

I went to court with scars on my arms and back and the judge gave me "supervised" visits because I slapped her. Even after all the justification.

Not sure what I was supposed to do, I turned around to run and she stabbed me in the back with it too.

My biological father was strangling my 19 year old brother after said brother told him to stop ripping the family photos up (father got drunk on my mums work do and they had agreed before they arrived that he would be the sober one so he could drive them home, this caused a argument).

Mum hears the struggle and runs in and see my brother being choked out so she grabs Sperm Donor by the back of his neck and lifts him off my brother, she the proceeds to drag him about 4-7 feet to the key hooks and hooks him onto them. She said that she didn’t realise what she was doing until my brother told her to stop and that was stuck on the hooks.

They get him off and she tells him to get what he needs and she will drive him back to the town they were just at. My brother stood guard outside my door (I was about 5 or 6) while SD got what he needed, he grabs 4 cans of beer and mum drives him back. My brother had called our other brother who decided to call the police to follow my mum. He had told them the full story and when my mum asked SD to leave the car and he didn’t, they then came out of their car and helped take him out.

When mum came back home, she looked at the hooks (which were not sharp at all) and saw that there was skin hanging off one of the hooks. Domestic violence is never right but protecting your children at all cost is something I stand by and I am proud of my mum for protecting her son.

So, it's clearly established we don't hit women, but they can hit us. What is a reasonable repercussion? Detain until calm or what? I'm not one for going shot for shot with my wife, but that's usually what I do. Any other means of deflection or evasion when shes swinging?

Note to the reader: I gladly accept every physical fight with my wife with grace, as it shows her at the end of the day who's stronger. Since I've taken the approach of this being a shit test, it is clear that this is a test of strength on her part. The easier I can make it look to her that I need not fear, nor get angered by her attacks, she has drastically been less bitchy with me. So, you could say I'm an advocate for domestic violence.

Again, I don't hit her, I went through non-violent crisis intervention training for work, and use those tactics to detain her rather than escalate the situation. I won't excuse every woman, but this one in particular had a rough childhood, and I knowingly took that on when I married her.

I will throw in my 2-cents worth: Yes it is bullshit that some people think that women can hit men with no repercussions, HOWEVER, the way it was phrased to me growing up as a young man is that you shouldn't. Men are stronger, bigger, and heavier handed. In the same way that if you were talking to a 7 year old that hit you, would you go and full on smack the shit out of the 7 year old? No. You could kill them. Same logic applies. As the stronger person in the fight, you should restrain the other person, and protect yourself. Get the hell out before the fight escalates, and try to diffuse. Of course you can hit. But you shouldn't. Also stop sticking your dick in crazy. Bring on the downvotes...

Men generate more force from across the shoulders than women. A man and woman of equal weight and BMI do not strike with equal power. It is far easier and more likely for a man to strike with enough force to kill or grievously injure a person than It is for a woman. There are exceptions just as there are for almost everything, but that is the most basic explanation that doesn't use culture as an answer.

but keep in mind that men can in fact witstand higer phisical damage and inflict it than women, thus it will have greater physical consecuences if we (men) hit women.

if women assault men (bare handed) men will end up whit scratches and bruses, while women in same scenario could end up whit broken bones, teeth knocked off. there is where "acceptable assault" comes from.
