Six years ago I had moved to Seoul, South Korea for work. While I was there I decided to take classes to learn Korean (side note: I strongly suggest to learn Korean. Its very easy!) Learning Korean helped so much in my day to day life. I didn't need to ask anyone for help. I could just do it all on my own. And it helped me speak to the ladies ;)

One of my white female coworkers invited me to go to her birthday party along with our other foreign friends. As the night progresses, she approaches me while I was ordering at the bar. The conversation goes like this...

Her: I hear you only date asian girls.

Me: What gave you that idea? You don't even know my dating history.

Her: Because I heard you took Korean classes, and you are quite good.

Me: This means I like exclusively asians?

Her: Well why else would you learn korean?

Me: Because it helps in my day-to-day life.

Her: You're a liar. We've all hung out before and you only talk to Korean girls at the bars.

Me: Well, we are in Korea. Should I chat up the hundreds of German girls I bump into all night in the streets of Seoul? Or maybe the huge Swedish population that prowls this place? Its just numbers. Has nothing to do with preference. There are more Koreans here than foreigners.

Her: Or maybe you got yellow fever you disgusting prick.

This is when she started hurling insults and threw her drink at me. The other female coworkers were listening in on the conversation and had to pull her away. I never spoke to her again professionally or casually. I got a new job later that year and got out of that place haha.

Why do women have this sense of entitlement? Like if I'm not drowning them in attention then there is something wrong with me. That's a messed up way of thinking.

I just wish appropriation was replaced with the version that's actually bad. Cultural usurpation, maybe? There's got to be a better way to distinguish between something benign (cultural appropriation - just adopting and sharing another culture) and something malicious (cultural usurpation - saying another culture is mine now and others cannot use it). Cultural appropriation is not bad and these morons need to get it through their thick fucking skulls.

This one might've been taken out of context, and not necessarily a feminist stance. I saw this exchange on Twitter, don't know who that account belongs to, so I have no idea if this was really a staunch feminist trying to promote an ideology.

Recently, you may have heard about this 18-year old teenage girl who wore a Qipao to her prom, and took some questionable photos. It went viral with an Asian guy retweeting with "My culture is not your prom dress". This sparked a huge controversy, especially within the Asian American community. For a lot of us, the problem wasn't with the prom dress itself; it was problematic that the teen claimed it was "cultural appreciation" then did a 180 and knowingly put out an incendiary vine that made it harder to believe she had good intentions and (her suggestion) that she didn't have a racist bone in her body. Furthermore, there were also a lot of white people jumping into the discussion, that vehemently played the double standard card or made accusations that Asian Americans are just being too sensitive, as if there is nothing to discuss about what she did at any level.

And enter Ricky Gervais with an opinion that, once again, no one really asked for, and continued to make light of the situation. The retort, IMO, was trying to bring into light that whenever Asian Americans want to speak about veiled racism, white people often insist on redefining what is "racist" and what is "not racist", essentially telling Asian Americans what to be offended at and what not to get so wound up about when it comes to the Asian experience. It's a classic dismissal and minimalization technique that further suppress a very serious discussion about race. And, ironically, it's what got us to this point recently.

That being said, there is a very serious issue with Asian females promoting anti-Asian (men) sentiments under the guise of "feminism", and they need to be called out for operating under a false flag. In this case though, I saw it more as calling out a racially tone-deaf comment more than a feminist grasping for straws about misogyny.
