It's only moral, or normal if you assume an individual man has some obligation to an entire class of people. Using that same logic, a woman who does not fulfill an assumed obligation to entire class people has committed an act of immorality as well as behaving in an abnormal way.

This is nonsense.

A free society allows for freedom of association. Feminists don't want that because it means individuals will have more power over their own lives, and the state less. So what do they do? Shaming. One of their favorite tools, like we see in this twitter post above. Shaming in order to get people to surrender their personal power to those who would misuse for their own selfish gain.

And make no mistake, that is the goal with action we see above. The feminist in question is trying to get an opponent to lower thier defenses. Lower them just long enough to get an attack past them. Like for example a private meeting with a loyal female political operative who just might make an uncorroborated claim of impropriety shortly after it ends.

Men have the right not to put themselves in situations where they may appear to be compromised. In business and politics, everyone can be considered to be a potential adversary. It only makes sense to take precautions.

Look at it this way: Pence would be an idiot to take a private meeting with a Russian banker right now, because regardless of what actually happens, accusations could be made by the other party. Inferences could be made by those not involved. Regardless of the fact that I think Pence's governing policies are stupid, taking measures to protect himself is not.

The reporting on this article is textbook feminism. The spin is that Pence is a religious whack job stuck in another era who is so obsessed with sex that he won't be alone with women for fear that he can't control his sexual urges. They completely ignore the main point of this policy, which is to protect your against a false allegation. Oh, and they completely ignore that every male physician, teacher, pastor, coach, etc, etc.all have the same policy. Feminists, to their credit I suppose, have created a situation where there is no way to defend yourself against a he said/she said harassment accusation. This "never alone" policy is the only recourse.

Why should a man put himself at risk? I'm on my guard around females since an incident that occurred last year. During a leave of absence from work, a female co-worker spread it around that I followed her home after work. The truth? I had somewhere to be after work, and some time to kill before the trains started running in the morning, so I was hanging out, and talking to her. I described it in depth here.

Have you ever been in a situation where you would've ended up alone together with a woman? Suppose you were teaching a class and you arrived early along with one of the students. Except that's not what happened because the woman left, presumably because she was "uncomfortable". This has happened to me a number of times. Most women seem to think this is normal and proper, as if it's common for men to force themselves on women when in such a situation and as if she wouldn't have a perfectly good recourse by simply telling someone about it, in which case the man's career is ruined. (and also as if it's not common enough for women to both invite and desire such advances if the man is attractive enough) You will see plenty of advice towards women that they should avoid such situations if they have a "feeling" about it.

A man refusing to meet alone with a female colleague is analogous, except that a sexual assault lasts only a short time and is unlikely to have any long term consequences. A false accusation, by contrast, could follow a man around for years, possibly the rest of his life.

The reaction here is laughable. Meeting a woman alone for dinner, or in your office, or in a conference room, is not how you get a false accusation.

Think about all of the shit Roger Ailes did to women; not a peep in the press or form anyone, because it it was in his office, not a hotel.

It makes total sense to avoid a room with a bed or house if you don't want to get pulled into a mess, but meeting for dinner at an open restaurant.....that's totally fine.

Also, this sub seems to be ignoring that it'd be impossible for any woman to be successful if she didn't take 1:1 meetings with men.

Filipovic knows (or should know) that when those with a lot of clout start talking turkey, gender is largely irrelevant. "Powerful" people didn't get to be powerful by giving a monkey's who they did down or who they hurt, and those on the receiving end generally knew the rules of the game, picked themselves up, dusted themselves off and took it on the chin. All of this is perfectly "normal", at least in the sense of 'usual' or 'commonplace': whether it's "moral" is neither here nor there.

Filipovic also knows (or should know) that one of Feminism's central tenets is "equality", at least in the sense that women have as much "right" to be considered capable of undertaking (nay, exceeding at) any high-powered job at the Big Table, and that these women are equally as likely to do any rival over when the occasion arises, regardless of their gender. Does that make their behaviour immoral or abnormal, Ms. Filipovic? Or are you, as I suspect, pleading special privilege for career women?

I don't know about moral or immoral, but an executive who refuses to speak with members of the opposite sex unless chaperoned is not somebody I'd want to work for. Nobody should bring their personal/cultural baggage into the workplace environment in that way.

If false accusations are the concern, then record all your meetings and let your colleagues know that you are doing so, and why.
