I got a visit from the police from my ex wife who I divorced at the time 9 years prior to this happening.

We had remained friends and I moved across the other side of the country and during that time she had visited twice (1500 miles from where I used to live)

Made the mistake of considering her a very close friend (easy to do as I had 17 years of shared memories with her)

During Covid my life hit a bit of a snag and while we did not have much interaction, maybe a text once a week and a phone call once a month, she suddenly went weird.

Then out of the blue sent me a very rude and quite mean email, I responded saying it was uncalled for and she basically told me she had been seeing someone for a year and we could not talk anymore.

Hit me way harder than the divorce getting that news in one day. I couldn't of cared less about her seeing someone, it was how she just turned her back on me as if I was dog shit to be scraped off the bottom of her shoes.

I sent a bunch of emails, none of which were threatening or anything, just pathetic stuff I really regret now - wish she had never seen how it hurt me to be honest.

Anyway the cops turned up to my place and warned me.....

My view was that it is really easy for someone to lodge an AVO against someone so getting a warning was probably a good thing and she may have had something to do with it.

I deleted all her contact information and have not communicated since it happened about 2 years ago. Still think about how much it hurt daily but I just think that is life and we collect pain as we get older.

If I ever get the message you have, it would crush me to do it but I would ignore it. She showed me I never really mattered and her contacting me now would likely be for her own reasons.

Unless you have been issued a VRO , or restraining order stating what means you can or cannot contact her with , that has been approved by a court and presented to you on paper by Police officers, you are ok to contact her.

However, do it all via text, so you have a record of what was said at all times.

If you have stuff that belongs to you , contact the police and let them know you want them in attendance when you collect your belongings from her place of residence .

In all other aspects, ignore her or block her if you dont want anything to do with her, which would be the best option

The police who called me used a google phone number and the phone number is not associated with any Police department.

Anytime someone who claims to be in authority or claims to be your bank, broker or some other entity you do business with, and you aren't 100% convinced they are who they claim, ask for a phone number you can call them back with. If they can't or you check out the number and it's not attached to anything, you are a victim of an attempted fraud.

Eh, I'll be the lone voice of dissent.

My ex blocked me on everything and threatened restraining orders. We had a lot of loose ends that became really difficult to tie up.

How did she contact you? Text? Email?

She can use the same method of delivery to tell you the reason for contacting you and correspond further.

Perhaps, you should respond via the same medium to keep everything nice, sanitized and have a record, as a safety backup, instead of calling, recording, saving and keeping track of that audio call? Maybe, use it as an opportunity to ask her to give back your stuff, if you still want it?

I think that the written word will carry more weight than a recorded audio call.

I know this has been said here but it can't be stressed enough. It was never the Police that told you to leave her alone. That was someone she knows, maybe a new romance.

Absolutely do not reach out to her unless it's to get your stuff back. You do it on a recording, and the first thing you say is "I am returning your call from [Date and Time of her call to you]. May I ask why you are reaching out after all this time?"

Be prepared to hang up. Something seems fishy.

Call her back and record it. Perhaps she found God and developed backbone and wants to explain apologize. Maybe you have a kid she hid from you. Maybe she has a std she wants to confess to you. Won't know unless you call her back.

That was definitely not a police officer who called you. Cops don't call people on behalf of their exes this way. If I had to guess, it was her new boyfriend.

You don't know what happened back then, from your other posts it sounds like you have a new gf, and you have no reason to communicate with her after 2 years.

But if curiosity is getting the better of you, don't cower at the prospect of talking to your ex. You have nothing to be afraid of. Record the call, ask her what she wants, be ready to hang up at any moment, then block her.
